So today I but the bullet and started a job I have been dreading…… preparing the underside of my mini to remove and treat the surface rust before adding some fresh paint. As you can see it was a joy 🤣🤣
While you’re doing the underside an you’ve got it all stripped on the rear I think you should consider replacing the steel brake lines. They’re prone to corrosion and splitting. What a lovely clean job it looks like, rather you than me. Keep at it, it will be well worth it in the end.
Hi Colin, Agreed- I have new lines waiting to go on once all the underside is looking better, well I have bought brake pipe and will be making them up myself. I agree that you can't do all of that and have nasty old brake lines spoiling the finish. Thanks for watching! Rich
@@RichT53 you're welcome, I'm glad you've already thought of replacing them. I've just ordered new lines for mine, it failed it's mot on Saturday. I'm going to attempt mine insitu. Not looking forward to the job. Anyway good luck with yours I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Hey Rich, I tackled the brake line today but only the one that was split, just got to bleed it now but that’s a job for another day lol. Well I thought I’d have a problem with getting the 11mm off to the rubber line but to my surprise it came off easy, in a fashion. First I tried a flare nut spanner but honestly this was useless and I reverted back to a standard 11mm that worked really well. The original nut is very shallow so this was why the flare nut spanner was useless. As for the engine end the nut was so tight I just couldn’t budge it. I ended up cutting the pipe and used a nut removal bit cause it had rounded. Refitted wasn’t too bad I ended up doing it in situ. Trying to shape it while off the car was like tackling a giant anaconda. If you do decide to do yours off the car I’d straighten it off and clamp the pipes together. Unfortunately mine isn’t the prettiest of jobs but it’s ok, with the fuel out like yours you should be able to do a better job. I’m looking forward to your upcoming video to see how you’ve got on. If you ain’t done it already good luck. Sorry I forgot to take photos, video is a no no, I huff, puff and swear far too much lol.
