They are BMWs, but FWD BMWs. The engine is a detuned version of the B48 engine used in more than half the BMW fleet (lower spec variants at least). It's the 4-banger version of all the current modular BMW engines, but small changes here and there like no extra intercooler in the intake manifold, etc. I know that sounds like a crazy thing to say, but it's true. :) Plenty of fun, but definitely not meant for drag racing really, haha!

burner12 I have 2 Minis (R53 and F56). The people who buy Minis are frequently not into modding their cars. If they are, they want stripes or some other aesthetic thing. They also don’t seem to like to get their hands dirty and do the work themselves. I come from the Scion community that is SUPER DIY, so the fact that the Mini people aren’t is weird to me. That’s just my personal take on why the tuner scene isn’t very Mini-centric.

Matt Samuels well it weight less than the gti and the cooper S makes 210 hp tested on the dyno stock the car is basically a bmw and bmw always lies about there numbers mine is currently making 215 with a dinan intake i also smoked a 2018 gti so....

I wouldn’t say you can do more with them, the aftermarket for the mini is insane. It’s a bit intimidating almost, I don’t know what I wanna spend my money on most

I have a 2020 and whhat I’m really impressed is the gears to 1-3 it’s so fast in those gears and the transmission is so nice. I haven’t seen much on 2020 versions but Ik they are faster then year16’s cuz of the upgraded engine

Can confirm, mini has short gears which are really well matched to the engine, so it feels really nice when launching and at low revs, and the golf feels so much more powerful through high speeds, and cuts through everything.

I disagree I believe it’s how you maintain them because I’ve owned a Mini Cooper s for 4 years and the only issue was the clutch going out at 120,000 miles which is normal on all manual cars, I know the early automatic transmission models like 2009 for example has issues but the new models seem to be vary we’ll maid. Even though their made by bmw

@@ghostedwarrior1968 I wasn't specific, I had a r56 Cooper s and had 55k on the clock. And the timing chain started making noise at 60k. And I know they were flawed for burning more oil than engines usually burn and their service interval stated by mini was 10k so .. 10k mile intervals plus oil burning engine, plus a oil pressured timing chain tensioner was not a good mix at all. By the time I got my hands on it. Thing couple had only 5 oil changes in the matter of 50k miles. I did 3 oil changes in the matter of 4 months of owning it. It still shit itself.

The mini cooper s is rated top 5 most unreliable car in the world, and after owning 2 mini coopers.. I'll stand by that top 5 most unreliable rating..

@@RotaryMan1776 there’s no way they went 1/2 mile in 12 seconds. The posted speed (232 v. 217) is likely the governed top speed for each car, not speed they achieved.

@Cali Bassin TV Because subjectively the older gen cars look nicer ..and are truer to the small car ideals of the original. Plus those turbo charged 1.6 engines are brilliant. But once you step on the throttle of a TwinTurbo 2.0, your days thinking about high performance 1.6s and cute small gen cars quickly disappear. Dude, even in standard "MID" mode traction is an issue ..in Sports Mode, the F56 is another class. I will give up all sentimental longings for that ...

@@CSRTV007 Well from all the magazines and comparison I don't understand this, turbo kicks in @ around 1500 rpm which is pretty impressive. This is a good real world test to be fair, but frankly, the GTI has a faster 0-60 so it doesn't make any sense that it would be beaten by the mini. I love both cars I really do, the mini cooper s is cheaper and sounds better, but the GTI picks up quick. I just think either the driver or the car is at fault here, in the sense that there's something out of the ordinary. Especially since the GTI is a DSG with much quicker shifting and a better powerband makes it even harder to believe. The GTI is lowered and has some rims on it, so that might've had an effect. This might also be the rare GTI with an open diff, as the large majority have LSD's. If so, come back with the more common LSD that's found in all SE, autobahn, Wolfsburg, Rabbit, and performance package cars, and nit a base model S without the PP

No, the Mini Cooper S is front-wheel drive. As I know there exists a performance version of the Golf GTI with 245 BHP but in this video we used the standard version with 220 BHP. Correct me if I’m wrong 😉

@@CSRTV007 its pre facelift golf so it has 220hp or 230 with performance package. red badges mean its PP. Facelift golf PP is 245hp.

Yeah neither one of those are true guys. Pre face lift was 210 or 220 with performance pack, after face life was 220 all trims and 2019 is 228 all trims. These are American numbers though

@High life Haha no, I am just trying to understand your comment. You drove the older model with 211 BHP. A lot has changed I think. From my experience the car drives very well and accelerates good, much faster than most of the hatchbacks I drove. But everyone has their opinion when it comes to cars, no problem 😉

The first meters of the Golf GTI are in general not really fast. We found this also remarkable so we searched the internet for answers. Apparently the slow first meters are due to the DSG gearbox. When the GTI reaches higher speeds it is indeed faster than the Cooper S. As you know, the result would be completely different if we had to do the test over a longer distance.
