Maybe I'll make a video on the cost. I'm probably about $30k into it so far. I've got some big expenses coming up with the roof and windows. I'm guessing it'll be around $60k by the end of the build.
@@RVBadlands2015 yeah, but.... There is a whole slew of carcinogens that leech out of them. It's like making your house out of asbestos, the way I see it...
@@Flyingdutchy33 Its a very inexpensive way to get an incredibly strong wall with a massive amount of thermal mass. You build up a huge berm of dirt behind the tire wall and then about 4 feet behind the tire wall is another wall of hard board insulation that holds in a total of about 6 feet of thermal mass (hope that makes sense). Essentially it's a huge battery that will hold heat and distribute it throughout the night. I know it's an odd concept that most people do not understand. Rent one in Taos if you can (they are now stupid expensive) in the winter. Your mind will be absolutely blown when you feel the heat off the wall on a cold night and you are running around in shorts with no heat source. We rented a global model a couple times before the prices got out of hand and they are the proven and perfected design. I highly recommend you try and rent a global model (I can not vouch for the other designs) and see it for yourself. You will fully understand why someone would want to build with tires.
We typically see people doing these kinds of builds in large groups because it just takes so long to do alone. If you have small kids, it would take even longer.
The juren bay earthship shows a method with the bottom of a propane tank and a jumping jack compactor to pound tires then they moved them with a backhoe. Not sure how many they managed to do in a day though.
