Curious about the ryobi generator. Kinda looks like is supposed to be a quiet generator like the Honda eu2200 series which is a hefty price. Your ryobi didn’t sound very quiet but curious if it’s a quiet model. Honda is just too darn expensive.
Thank you for the video. I'm thinking about buying an off grid tiny house with a submersible pump. What do you do during winter? Does the creek freeze over?
Why not just wrap aluminum foil around the PVC pipe protruding inside the bowl? It would just reflect light back out instead of burning. No need for the rocks.
I drove past your earthship yesterday! I didn't even realize I was driving in the same state as where you're building, but I happened to look over and immediately said "Wait, that's Niall's earthship!" Is that area a "pocket of freedom?" How did you get the OK to build yours?
@@nialldivers Holy crap... that is a real pocket of freedom! Super jealous. We had a bit of a change of plans and are heading back home tomorrow. Would you feel comfortable if my wife and I stopped by to take a closer look? We've begun the process of building our own earthship in Idaho and are looking for as much inspiration as possible haha. If you'd rather we not stop by, we understand and will respect your wishes.
Sorry, I'm just seeing your message. I'm out of town at the moment. If you're ever driving by in the future, let me know. Where are you building in Idaho?
@@nialldivers No worries! Thank you for the offer! We're building near Idaho Falls. We were required to pour footings under all the tires, but the concrete should be done next week, and then it's on to pounding tires.
I noticed your by a bridge? It concerns me because I have seen a lot of people sell and buy land in what is known as old washes. In Phx they have done this and years ago there were very bad floods now today they have playgrounds in there. Anytime you have a bridge means there has been water issues. Not sure where you are located at but if in Az get flood insurance. We have hundred year old floods out there. Good luck with your build. Thank you for sharing your technique.
You in Northern California? Do some trading to help me get mine set up? I’m in Northern California near desolation wilderness if you are around? Thanks 🙏
Maybe I'll make a video on the cost. I'm probably about $30k into it so far. I've got some big expenses coming up with the roof and windows. I'm guessing it'll be around $60k by the end of the build.
@@RVBadlands2015 yeah, but.... There is a whole slew of carcinogens that leech out of them. It's like making your house out of asbestos, the way I see it...
@@Flyingdutchy33 Its a very inexpensive way to get an incredibly strong wall with a massive amount of thermal mass. You build up a huge berm of dirt behind the tire wall and then about 4 feet behind the tire wall is another wall of hard board insulation that holds in a total of about 6 feet of thermal mass (hope that makes sense). Essentially it's a huge battery that will hold heat and distribute it throughout the night. I know it's an odd concept that most people do not understand. Rent one in Taos if you can (they are now stupid expensive) in the winter. Your mind will be absolutely blown when you feel the heat off the wall on a cold night and you are running around in shorts with no heat source. We rented a global model a couple times before the prices got out of hand and they are the proven and perfected design. I highly recommend you try and rent a global model (I can not vouch for the other designs) and see it for yourself. You will fully understand why someone would want to build with tires.
We typically see people doing these kinds of builds in large groups because it just takes so long to do alone. If you have small kids, it would take even longer.
The juren bay earthship shows a method with the bottom of a propane tank and a jumping jack compactor to pound tires then they moved them with a backhoe. Not sure how many they managed to do in a day though.
Wouldn't the bolt cutters work better going from the outside in? You don't have to fight the inside tire diameter or the rest of the tire while trying to cut the bead cable.
