Mini Excavator - UHI UME 12 Travel Motor Leak - HOW TO FIX!

The UHI UME 12 Mini Excavator has a leaking seal on the travel (track) motor. This video is a 'how to' style.
Replacements parts were supplied under warranty from UHI Machinery.
As noted in the video, genuine EATON parts may not fit the chinese made drive motor as shown.

That's not an oil leak, it's a rust protection system.

When assembling any part like this you should always use the same oil as a lubricant when putting things together. I keeps the seals from damage while being put on.

Do you know the reason why on my mini excavator the hydraulic motor of the drive has thrown off the ring on the shaft three times in a short time?

this is the trouble with chinese crap--- it dont last long-- a kobelco or kubota wouldnt have this issue, but you do have to pay more

Always lube up seals on assembly. A light grease would be or, in this case, hydraulic oil as that is what it working with.

Always replace oring as they suffer the same fate as oil seals. They are cheap enough not to replace them.

Good job. I'm thinking you may want to purchase a few more of those seal kits, if one went bad more may go bad.

The outside seal is there to keep the dirt, etc, out of the housing

Yeah it’s a common issue. Easy to fix. Hardest part is getting the track on and off. Make sure you get the right seal kit for it and don’t listen to the video on RU-vid who uses a automotive seal , the seal will fit but it will fail in no time

When I took the old seal out it was hard and came apart. I thought the hardness may be because it was under pressure from the hydraulic pump but since have read that within the drive motor there is little pressure. Cheers Dave.

The seal gets hard because of high hydraulic temp. Get high-pressure viton seals. Sort out the high temp with a cooler. Do not stall the functions. It will dump oil over the relieve valve and create heat.

It took me some time because I was trying to video the process, but it is not that hard. Just keep everything CLEAN! I was thinking the oil would come out when the cover was removed, but being elevated on that side and the pump not running it wasn't an issue. Cheers Dave.

You really get surprised at which places they save money in their designs. I have a small 50hp tractor from china and you also have to refill the engine oil through a breather on top of the valve train...

When I looked at the newer models, they have added a proper filling point for the hydraulic oil. Cheers Dave
