Hey Taylor, big jetski guy here. Doesnt sound like your pump is cavitating, if it was it would be hitting the rev limiter constantly when trying to get on plane. Your overheating issue is probably the hose routing I would double check that. I don’t think the engine is the last in line to get water flow. And replace your spark plugs! I’ve seen it so many times where a 4 stroke ski won’t rev up all the way and you replace the plugs and it fixes it. Also brother don’t wear black shorts and black shirt on a boat you look like a northeastern tourist lol

Looks like a Routing issue. Reduces compartment temp by alot, gets engine up to temp faster and baffles the sound without the need for mufflers.

The older seadoo motors like this one are known for going through coils and plugs. A popular upgrade is the seadoo 300 valve cover which has a different style coil that actually bolt in place. Also, when was the last time the supercharger was rebuilt? If you don't have 100% proof it was actually done recently you should pull it off to check for clutch slippage. I know injectors can be problematic on these too. If you narrow it down to that being a problem, get them off FCP Euro. If yours are stock and it is a 260 motor they are the green bosch injectors part number 9202100.

replace the temperature sensor. Had a ski with same motor and was plagued with the same conditions. Before would run like shit and then run good but would overheat. After that changing the sensor it ran great. If the ski isnt winterized properly those sensors corrode and cause misfires

Small suggestion, mount that fire extinguisher in the front cabin. If you ever did have a fire, the last thing you want to have to do, is reach into a fire to grab your extinguisher. Otherwise, wikid little project. These arnt well known up in Canada. Edit: After finishing the video, my only other small suggestion, move the kill switch to the cabin, instead of in the engine bay.

A jet boat without trim is hard to keep on plane. Overheating is possibly from cavitation at propeller because the trim isn't adjusted right.

Everything I've ever heard about running jetboats has emphasized how important trimming it properly is...I was highkey cringing a little bit watching the first video hearing him underestimate the importance of trimming the boat...I'm sure Taylor wouldn't race an un-aligned vehicle so why drive an un-trimmed boat where laminar flow to the turbine is essential

Taylor, I have $20 that says the wash when you put it in reverse is from the top edge of your bucket. When the water hits it, it pushes you backwards but it wants to find any exit it can I bet the top seal is gone and that's why it wants to wash you down. You can also weld some extra to it and change the angle, so you direct the water lower kind of like a kicker strip. My guess is the jet unit or bucket was made for a different unit that may have had a cover of some kind over it so it was never a problem. Either way I have faith that you can fix it....if you get to read this....!!

Definitely put double hose clamps on all your seawater connections. The trick is to leave one barely tight enough to stay on, and the other fully tightened. Then if you have a leak, you have the new one ready to go.

Hey Taylor I’m a seadoo tech in Mississippi. What codes are coming up on the screen and I can let you know what they are for. Also closed loop cooling is so much nicer for these engines and you don’t have to worry about sand getting in the motor. Also that motor should have a sport mode if I’m not wrong you’ll have to see if it has a mode button if so it’ll tell you on the cluster how to engage it.

I live in Debary too, that no wake zone is the worst. FWC used to hide behind the signs to catch them blowing through but I don’t think they care much on the week days.

You should watch the video that Cleet had on the Mountain Dew boat with just a small dent in the hull. With yours having a second layer of plastic the extra drag that puts off could be contributing to it getting hot and if it’s messing with the water flow off the rear it could be affecting the water pickup for the cooling system

Taylor I would highly recommend converting that thing back to closed loop cooling, That's one of the main advantages of having a Sea-Doo jet ski especially if you're going to ride it in saltwater! You just need a water to water heat exchanger, the exhaust will still be raw water cooled just like it is on every Sea-Doo but you'll have nice antifreeze running through the block. I don't know why people do the open loop cooling bullshit with these engines but it's going backwards and it's stupid!!

I had to switch to open loop on mine and have had zero issues. The reason you switch is because the jet skis are cooled through the ride plate that is also formed to match the hull of the Jet ski. There is nowhere on these boats that would make that work unless you did extensive fab work.

Many other guys run these open loop, makes sense having cool fresh water constantly circulating through the engine especially with the sustained rpms and heat these jetboats see, the cooling system would be nascar level to adequately cool a boat this size...she ain't a sea-doo after all so it just seems like a complicated heavy solution to something that has been in use and effective for decades at this point

I had a similar problem with an old seadoo I had. Every time I would take it out, at first it would be sluggish and would start working fine after a bit or riding. Never figured out what it was before selling it. Overheating is most likely a sensor

Replace the wear ring while your at the jet pump. also on the seadoo, make sure the J pipe for the exhaust isn’t leaking….? If you suspect it is leaking it will cause the ski to be very boggy down low when it’s at idle for a few minutes. Very common issue, my seadoo JetSki currently has this issue

You discovered the first rule of boating: run them hard amd run them often. Only use non-ethanol gas, and just premix seafoam from the get-go. Will take care of 99% of poor-running issues. It's almost always fuel issues.

hey bro ive built a few jettstreams at my shop in lake havasu with sea doo and yam motors. if you got any ?? on the cooling system or anything(prop setups and stuff) lmk i can forward my shop info, thing will forsure overheat and cavitate if the carbon ring is leaking, biggest thing is making sure they feed the motor and intercooler properly (stock setip is lake water for exhaust and intercooler, coolant for motor, and has been converted to full open loop, so it may just be completely plumbed wrong

Change the bilge pumps to a Rule pump and separate float switch, the combo pumps always fail and I wouldn’t bother with some of the cheaper brands with something your life depends on. Take it from a commercial fisherman and always have checking it as a part of your pre trip checklist. Pumps last 3-5 years in a wet environment, yours may fair better having it not being in an enclosed bilge. Best of luck bro love the videos and you getting into boating.

I had a 2005 RTX with a 215 in it. Had loads of fun but had the same issue you're having.... After a full summer of troushooting and many parts later... Sensors, flushes, hoses... I finally found the issue. It had been overheated so hard before i got it that it had warped the baffles in the exhaust cooler. Once I replaced that, i stopped getting the overheating alarm when doing some silliness... Like i said, same issue you were having. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I would check plugs coils and fuel pump I have a 23 rxtx 300 and the fuel pump started to die and it acted exactly like that. Best lucky to you and deff look into going back to the close loop on the cooling it’s a block saver for sure. My neighbors are all Yamaha and Kawasaki owners and there blocks are gone and there skis are no more than 5 years old and they use the salt x stuff.

Cool to see you having fun with the mini. cant wait to see your custom spin to the boat. im 100% for roof, looks cool and keeps you cool. As a fellow irishman im not a fan of direct sunlight bahaha. The splashing from the reverse bucket if either back pressure trying to be forced through those tubs or shooting out the gap at the top of the bucket. Most buckets are just an open cup not enclosed as for the over heating it that the right size hose and routed correctly? Id get with Kyle or JP and see if its correct just to save heaps of time right out the gate.

Taylor!!! I just got my sea doo back from getting fixed for the same exact reason lol. I replaced the temp sensor and cleaned the j pipe out and still didn't work. Obviously need to reset the code but didn't have a scanner. Wouldn't have mattered anyway as it was the jet pump causing the overheating. Had a crack in it

i don't know anything really about jet skis I'll be honest, put the pair we have are super charged and it makes that same weird noise (not rev out)/ doesn't get into boost until it warms up and even then it surges like your boat is. Once we changed the oil (might've been low on oil?) and spark plugs it seemed to help the issue tremendously. We got into the habit of every season doing oil and plugs before the first trip. seems to help. not trying to be a keyboard warrior, hope this is helpful or gives you an idea of something to look for?

There’s a sport mode on the boat if you can figure that out it’ll make the throttle much more responsive. Might be that button you cut out in the last episode.

Could be getting low water pressure with the carbon seal leaking. A lot of the time the carbon seal will leak more faster you go bc of the added pressure. Also what temp warning is going off? Engine, exhaust? Definitely gonna need the engine alignment tool and tbe tool for the carbon seal. Also look into one of the updated carbon seal kits.

I forgot it’s supercharged.. our ski is also supercharged. Had the issue where the ski was shaking super bad when the blades were bad. Those SCs do need rebuilt after so much runtime. Sooner than you’d think too..

now, this will sound strange, but it will make more sense the longer i go on... the tip: suspend the boat.. on the trailer,.. right where it is!... think 'cable driven garage door opener'... from the rafter beams, attach 5 heavy duty pulleys and string with strong winch cable... join all cables into one central pull [prescribed in advance by the attachment points to the trailer] to the one Main 'pull line' attached to a winch... carabiner the cables to Eye-Bolts on the frame in 5 places.. 2 starbore, 2 port and one at the forward... no frame to stash [it's the trailer] out of the way [= more floor workable space] and it will look wicked cool... center it in the building if like.. seems like quite a statement!

Taylor, I am no jetski guy but the routing of the cooling seems wrong to me. I would think it should go intercooler, engine and then exhaust. My thinking is the heat from the exhaust is putting extra heat into the engine. Maybe am wrong, just my $0.02.

Dont forget to change that reverse bucket again so you dont get swamped everytime you reverse. Also seems very twitchy and not well balanced while under power. I would suggest looking in to trying to even the weight out. Obviously would change with a passenger. Good project but. Wish they where a little more affordable here in Australia i would be on to one straight away

You need to redo the poly on the bottom. It sould cover the whole bottom and it shouldn't be doubled with those smaller pieces. That's just gonna create alot of drag and make the boat slower and work the engine harder. Might not even plain out right.

Sounds like it was in limp mode off the bat. I’m not familiar with the Sea Doo ECU, but it might need to see a minimum temp before it can rip. Possible bad connection with the throttle.

Definitely put a new set of spark plugs in that thing because it was only running on one cylinder about half the time when you first started and you need to check some of your other sensors as well see if the ohms are within spec

Sucks that it overheated; I had an issue like that with my stand up ski (1985 js550), turns out the ride plate/intake grate I had on was causing major cavitation since it wasn’t getting up on trim all the time. Could be a busty sensor, but if the sensor is replaced & still overheating, it’s probably cavitation occurring where it pulls in water for the open cooling system 🤷🏽‍♂️

Also check codes for sure if temp sensor is corroded at all like clamps and throwing code it could cause power issues and false readings
