I don't understand why MINI, having a concept as perfect as the F56, is launching this new concept. It's so ugly that I don't think it will last long, no matter how much love there is among MINI fans. I have to be honest! The vehicle looks very, very ugly! Very disappointing on MINI's part. They could have opted for a new design inspired by the classic model from the 60s or improved the design of the F56 a little more, instead of letting the MINI Cooper dies like this.
This is like neutering the brand. Why take an already beautiful, classic design and modernize it into something nobody wants? This was the most awkward thing ive watched since Will Smith at the Oscars.
Just don’t touch the design… this is what we love with a MINI. You just killer it. Sorry but someone in there does not know what out passion is about or not respecting it. Come on guys…. go backwards with the MINI…
As a Mini Owner i must say the responsible designers should be fired immediately. They had an iconic design and turned it in a cheap Chinese knock off. Just awful.
As a longtime Mini fan and use to have one mini Cooper S … i must say the responsible not the designers team but should be fired management team that approves this design immediately. 😂 But However, I’m still will be a big fan of Mini Cooper. I’m falling in love with all Mini but not for 2024 design (yet !!) 😊
I think they’ve messed up their sales. Why would anyone outside the UK want a Union Jack as their rear light. Ironically, people in the UK might avoid this car solely because of that. Additionally the front lights of the countryman looks generic.
The reasoning behind these kinds of changes is that MINI can't stay with a certain audience, it isn't enough to keep an entire brand afloat. Changing the design can keep the brand afloat. MINIs will always be fun and customizable, and that's what we can appreciate. Not a lot of vehicles are as unique as MINIs.
If these new minis could be aware of how badly these hack designers messed up it’s interior, it would drive off the nearest cliff. Immediately. I will stick with my 2003 mini Cooper s, because it’s great all the way around and is a blast to drive. Frank Stephenson knew how to put a design together.
Got one of the last Coopers built with a manual transmission last year, for me, it's a must, I love MINI, but I also like driving, and with an automatic transmission you are NOT fkg driving, so I will have to keep this one for a while, and if a day comes were you cannot get manual cars anymore, I'll start using public transport or taxis...
So if you can’t have everything, you’ll have nothing? Dude, come on. These are EVs. Did you really expect a manual? They’ll probably offer them on the ICE versions made by JCW. Also, even in an automatic, I’d rather have that and still be able to enjoy driving than have nothing at all. You can’t be that damn stubborn. From one car enthusiast to another, be glad they’re at least trying
EV s are also manual, they have just one gear 😂 as a Mini Cooper S E owner and a past manual car enthusiast like you, I highly recommend you to give it a chance and demo test one. It’s even better with regen and comfortable ride…
I also love manual transmissions and it's actually the thing that I miss the most in my F56 SE (especially on twisty mountain roads) but then again it doesn't make sense in an EV (simulated manual transmissions might be nice though) and I love the immediate acceleration, especially in cities (ICEs don't really have much chance once traffic lights turn green since no one uses launch control and few rev it out - I even got a BMW M5 driver once that realized/floored it too late; it's silly but kinda fun and I gotta enjoy it as long as there are few EVs around :D).
The aggressive stance of the MINI is what makes it iconic. While I like some of the renewable design elements and the interior dashboard and OLED, the Cooper exterior looks more generic and less MINI. Hopefully they go in the opposite direction with the JCW.
Minuses for me: - Iconic front windscreen have been altered. It was common with all generations like 30-35 degrees from vertical. - deleted wheel arches = bean counting - rear lights are nice but somewhat not Mini - deleted physical climate controls - cloth covering the dash will collect dust after some time - deleted instrument gages: it was fun to watch e-power dial going to 100% right in front of yours eyes and I dont want turn my eyes to the middle of the dash just to follow essentials like speed, charge level etc (although that’s more in line with original Mini) - Not UK built anymore Pluses: + Range + Central round screen looks fresher + and nothing else 😅 Hopes > I hope they retained the driving characteristics > hope that annoying infotainment system and switching the car on/off got better
Was looking forward to updating from my Petrol Mini Cooper Park Lane to an Electric Mini Cooper but these 2024 models are just cheap, nasty and awful, everything that was special about Mini as a brand has been completely lost. Oliver Heilmer hang your head in shame.
BMW totally screwed up an iconic brand. First an EV that can't drive anywhere and soon an UGLY EV that isn't much better on range. Has anyone on the Mini team heard of market study??? Fire everyone on the team.
New doesn’t mean better. Modern doesn’t mean better. The original Mini was simple because it had to be cheap. The so called simplicity design of the new Mini, flush, no plastic spats indicators in the body raked windscreen, hasn’t made it more like the classic Mini, rather it has made it fall in line with other sleek designs from China and Korea etc. loosing its individuality IMO
@@bardz0sz you see us 'grandmas' driving them because we watched the brand grow! Got my first one in 1994. Had to move on to bigger cars, but now that I'm a grandma I can have my Mini again. Some of us grandmas were driving Minis when they were true Minis.
I wish there were some technical details but I already suspected that it would be more of a marketing teaser. Most of the information was unfortunately already leaked/known in advance so it was a bit underwhelming. I'm still very excited for the new J01 yet and especially for the first electric JCW (hopefully in 2025 and track ready).
It is a very difficult task to bring an evolution of an icon like the Mini. But I think that MINI teams have done a very good job and they take risks to give us something new, positive and fresh. The new design evolution is growing in me and I like it the more I see it. Well done ! 🔥
@@ERTZZTRE either way, it’s a callback to the original. That’s why I’m not completely upset by it in this car. I just wish the HUD was standard instead of optional
Who cares about electric cars that needs to be charged for hours? And detailed f56 is the most beautiful so far. Why reducing elements? This is not the mini way :( New mini-s are boring. The worst update that could be made including all-digital gauges!
What if they could just keep the iconic round headlights on the Countryman... Looks AI generated and not at all worked through. Rest of the car looks great however :)
My opinion of the new MINI Cooper SE (J01): The design is controversial and less aggressive/sporty but I'm starting to kinda like it. I'll likely miss the F56's design (interior with all of the buttons and more sporty exterior) but the new design will hopefully improve the drag coefficient quite a bit (although the overall shape probably makes it difficult to achieve a really good result). The JCW trim looks decent and the real JCW model should apparently look a bit more aggressive. The interior is kinda boring but also simple and clean. It makes sense in regard of classic MINIs and a go-kart doesn't have much buttons (etc.) either (so the simple design is kinda driver-focused). My main issue is with the weight: With 1680 kg (EU kerb weight, i.e. incl. 75kg for the driver and luggage) it's likely a bit too heavy for really good driving dynamics (modern technology can do wonders but it's still noticeable when pushing the limits). The F56 MINI Cooper SE weights 120 kg more than the ICE JCW (and I find my F56 MINI Cooper SE already too heavy) but the new J01 unfortunately adds another 240 kg on top (I get that batteries are heavy but battery technology has advanced a bit in the meantime and it could probably be quite a bit lighter than it is). The other stats are obviously better :) Compared to the current F56 SE, the new J01 SE has 25 kW more (engine) power (+18.5%), is +20km/h faster (+13.3%), takes 0.6 seconds less from 0 to 100 km/h (-8.2%; I expected a bigger improvement here but the weight probably explains it), and offers around 157 km (the WLTP range is not final yet so I based this on 390 km) more range (+67.4% -> definitely a nice and very noticeable improvement). The good thing is that it's apparently even more fun to drive (there are already at least two videos online). It finally oversteers instead of the heavy understeering that limits the current F56 (although it feels neural to me when staying at the limit - but it definitely understeers when pushing it more). I do wonder though if it where better if it would be neutral / well balanced instead of oversteering (oversteering is fun but one cannot drift a FWD car anyway so a neutral balance might be better/faster). I'll surely miss the instrument cluster but then again I never really looked much at it as the speedo in the HUD is good enough. The analogue looking instrument cluster was nevertheless cool though. I wish the new J01 would offer a proper HUD that projects directly onto the windscreen but I've been told that the angle makes it difficult and that there are options but they're a bit too expensive for a MINI (but there might be hope for facelifts). The new OLED screen is nice though and felt intuitive to use (on the prototype it was still a bit buggy but that can likely be fixed in time and it's nice that there'll be OTA updates). And last but not least: It's a bit unfortunate that the Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) will now be mandatory for all cars sold in the EU. It must be disabled every time one starts the engine and I had to press a physical button and one or two times on the touchscreen to disable it (IIRC the second touch was required to get rid of the legal notice). The ISA will otherwise trigger an acoustic alert when going over the speed limit (which could probably get annoying - especially if it triggers right away if one's even just 1 km/h too fast but maybe the sensitivity can be adjusted a little bit). Edit: I forgot another really important advantage of the J01: Finally a proper BMS (battery management system)! It's so annoying that the F56 always charges to 100% as that isn't ideal for lithium-ion battery life (I'm mad that BMW/MINI can't or don't want to implement this for the F56)! The new J01 finally makes it possible to set a charging limit / target SoC (defaulting to 80% to maximise battery life) :) The current F56 is also a bit less fun in winter as it cannot directly heat the battery (AFAIK the preconditioning feature only heats the battery indirectly and very slowly by heating the cabin - I'll run some tests during next winter but there are videos that show that this is the case for the BMW i3). The lack of battery heating can result in slightly limited engine performance (~70-80%) if the battery cooled down to ~0°C (or below). The current F56 can also overheat when really pushing it (in that case the engine power will get severely limited - IIRC to around 25-40%). The new J01 hopefully fixes both of these issues by significantly improving the heating and cooling capabilities.
It’s an absolute joy to see the innovation emanating from BMW these days, as always excellent engineering, fabulous design and industry leading technology. I suppose that was expected, but the presentation was also well thought out, it was a pleasure to see ethnic diversity and representation in the videos and among the employees, as well as a woman leading the way.
Mini is a semi premium brand that is all about fun. That is why moonroof can no longer be opened. Surfaces are hard to touch, easy to get dirty and cheap. Beautiful OLED display will get burned in less than a year. And the car is built in China now. Fantastic!
I love electric car, but if someone talking about, that this kind of car is eco-friendly, they are talking a bullshit. African people know something about it!!!
