Thanks Kev. The gas strut was a great improvement. The original torsion bar had a very weak spring, the head of the mill tended to slip some times. Was well worth doing. ATB Cheers Nobby
@@nobbysworkshop yes Sir, I'll be checking them out. I have a DB 209 unimat with milking colom andwooden box decent acc came with it. None of bigger stuff to make different tools. Just lathe, mill. But 3 jaw, face plate and dogs. 2 dead centers small arbor, drill chuck, wood chisel few bits. It's like brand new old stock u could say . Dentist owned it I got it from guy bought it estate sale. $ 500 . Had it few years now. Need find 4 jaw chuck and few other little odds ends. Collet chuck be nice. Well grand baby up I guess papa nake some breakfast. Stay safe from ur ole hillbilly buddy.
The lathe sounds good Paul. My first lathe was a Unimat SL. Bought it about 8 years ago, and it started my engineering hobby. Sold it to buy a Mini Lathe. I bought a 4 jaw chuck from another small lathe and converted it to fit the Unimat. I wonder if a Sherline chuck could be adapted. Made in the USA? Good luck. Cheers Nobby
Good video Nobby. The vise fits very nicely. Super good unit for the money. Very easy to clean. Did you add that bridge type stop to the mill column or was it part of the kit ? I must get a mill, but the prices keep going up. How do you find that one to be ? Cheers Rob
Hi Rob, the stop was part of the mill. I love the mill, have done so much work with it and it's been great fun. I bought it used on ebay 6 years ago. Was GB£370 but would sell for at least 500 now. The only down side is, it doesn't have a quill. So when drilling you move the whole head of the mill. Makes the column stop very useful. If all goes well I hope to upgrade it later this year to a slightly bigger one with a larger motor and a quill. Would recommend you get a mill Rob. Guarantee you won't regret it and won't lose money on it. Thanks for looking at my video efforts. Regards Nobby
Hi Calvin. The one I showed in the video, I made myself. Very easy to make. I bought a long series socket to fit the vice , attached a small bar to it and made a handle from Delron. A nice afternoon project. There is a company in the U.S. who make them, Edge Technology. If you do a Google search there are some other companies offering them. Cheers Nobby
Good video. Good info I have one minor observation. There is no such thing as a digital vernier. Vernier is the specific scale on measurement instruments and since digital measuring devices DO NOT have these scales they are NOT vernier. They are digital scales.calipers, micrometers,or lineal scales, etc.The scale is named for Pierre Vernier.
Hi Gene, very sorry for my error. Thanks for pointing this out, and many thanks for subscribing to my channel. Hope you enjoy my videos. Kind regards Nobby
@@nobbysworkshop it is very nit picky observation and I understand and appreciate how difficult making a video is. I have watched a few of yours and am now a subscriber 👍
@@genecarden780 I'm very new to amateur engineering and only set up the shop six years ago. Have only been making these videos for seven months, encouraged by my dear wife. Always so grateful for comments and advice to help me along this wonderful journey. Cheers Gene and thank you. Best regards Nobby.
Hi Nobby. Your Myford looks like brand new or is it a repaint job ? Just a thought about your table drive gears, you say that you made them. Why not buy them on ebay ? I bought the gears for my Grenby Surface Grinder fine down feed unit that I made. They were a Metal Replacement Set of gears for a Mini Lathe. Not 30 and 60 as you fitted but 45 and 88 but as it was just a reduction setup they would do. Just a thought should you also want to fit a table drive to the Y axis. Regards from Australia.
Hi David my Myford is a ML7R it's all original. It took me a long time to find this one in such good condition and near enough to where I live to be able to collect it. I love this lathe and have always wanted one. The only thing I added to it was a nice used clutch about six months ago. Bit of a headache to fit but so glad I did. Makes using it so much easier. I have added some accessories to it. A rear tool post, 4 jaw TOS scroll chuck, ER32 collet chuck and loads of Dixon tool holders. I also adapted a small Bison 3 jaw chuck making a back plate from a Myford catch plate. I did look for some suitable gears a Ebay but couldn't fine anything at the time. Thought trying to make the gears would be a good experience. I'm making a video at the moment on how I made them. Thank you for you kind comments David.
Hi, thanks for your question. If you check out my video on RU-vid today (Sunday 19th) I hope I've covered your questions? This was easier than sending you a long reply. Thanks for looking. Cheers Nobby
