In the resto-mod installation of a Lucas windshield wiper system originally designed for a Classic Mini Morris, an issue of compatibility arose between an after market cable gear rack spiral wiper cable and the windshield wiper wheel boxes. February 2, 2021: After denying the validity of my observations, the Ebay retailer of this product - went to his stock of cables - and found that they were all defective! Apparently, though Lucas, or its subcontractors have been making these for more than 50 years, now they are making brand new, defective cables. The defect is in the uncontrolled variance of the pitch at which the gear driving cable is wrapped over the stranded core of the steel cable. Adding insult to injury, neither the factory nor the retailer bothered to test the product that they are selling. Buyer beware. This is a problem of undetermined scope! And, if you have a defective cable, there is nothing you can do to fix it.
