When your Mini is equipped with a regular phone charger, it can only be used by one specific phone type. When buying an other Phone it will probably be useless. When your car is equipped with a wireless charger several IPhones and Android as well can be used.
This video shows you the replacement of a regular charger into the wireless type. You don’t need specific tools and neither a lot of Skils to do the job.
So enjoy my video and consider this comfortable adjustment.
(Always check the compatibility of your Mini at first)

Superb video, thank you! It's a shame my 2017 F54 wireless charger doesn't take my new Samsung S21+ 'phone... I wonder if Mini / BW will make a new charger for longer 'phones?

Thanks for this movie it was very helpful. I did this in Mini f57 (so in f56 should fit also) but there is a lot of diffrences in armrest build and it is not soo easy :) you can't disassemble into pieces the armrest, here you have to push cables through the channel and it requires some manual skills (I have to ask my wife to do it :D )

Hello Hans. Thank you for this since I was having a hard time finding this information. I have a Cooper S 2019 and hope it is close enough to follow this. The question I have is if you found a source for a new charging station for the iPhone 11 Max Pro? I am thinking no but it would be a good market. The problem is that the bottom spring loaded holder does not go down far enough even though there is enough room in the armrest. If it went down 1/4" (6.35mm) more it would probably be fine.

Hello Michael, I believe when you gently remove some of the rubber beneath the indicator light you will get the extra space to insert a IPhone 11 Max Pro. Thanks for your response and enjoy driving your Cooper S.

@@ZachySss I did try to remove the rubber grommets but the design is such that I could not do it that way. I have given up for now. I did get the arm rest out but couldn’t figure out how to open it without breaking it. I was thinking of buying a sacrificial armrest to figure that out, recording what I find then posting it to help others but got busy with other projects. It is almost winter here so perhaps I will try again then.

Did you install this wirless charger in F56 ? I have f57 but I'm not sure it will fit here.

@@fjastrzebowski I didn’t change anything. I was never able to use the oem charger. I have since gotten rid of the mini.

Seems that you installed what everybody wishes to replace with extra storage, since mini's wireless charger is absolutely useless due to its low power and small size.

Must have been hard doing those things one handedly while holding the camera, well done! I'd like to remove the spring loaded piece on my mini and replace it for one that was 3D printed to fit bigger phones on it, how can I remove the wireless charger tray? Do I need to disassemble the whole armrest thing? I haen't been able to find any video showing the process, I'd really appreciate your advice. Stay safe, best regards!

I think you need to disassemble the whole armrest. But by using two hands this will be an easy job, that’s for sure. Good luck.

Hi there- I have a 2019 S 4 door hardtop (F55) and am wondering if, once I remove the charger, will the hole that's left be amenable for storage? (sharp parts?, etc) I have no need for the charger- would rather have the storage. Thanks in advance!

Hi Pam, I don’t Think you will get more storage space by removing the charger. In fact it will leave a unpleasant look which doesn’t do anything good to the looks of you well designed Mini. My advise is don’t do it for that reason.

Hi, No, first you have to take out the armrest unit. It’s not that difficult as you can see in my video.

I am not familiar with the specifications of the 2020 type. I suppose there won’t be a difference. By opening the ventilation unit you can compare if there’s a difference. Just give it a try!

So I did some searching and found a charging mat with a usb connection that fit perfectly in my arm rest I ordered it from amazon it was here in two days and cost $8.99 us it works fantastically !
