I'm glad you managed to get your radio working again. If you don't leave it in, you will have to do the same again if the battery is disconnected, but I'm sure you know that. 👍

What that cable is? Ignition? How to test radio on table?

Hi Just wandering if you can offer me any advice on my situation with my mini radio: I have a 2 seater mini coupe 2012 model. I went on holiday January 31st, I drove it just hours before leaving and the radio worked fine. I came home, 2 weeks later, got in my car and the radio won't turn on. The date and time show up and the radio screen lights up orange when I put the key in the ignition but it just won't turn on. I took it to my local garage, they said all the fuses are fine and that they couldn't work out why it wasn't turning on. I took it to another garage today. The mechanic there thought, if it had been sitting for a while, maybe the battery had lost power, enough to not power the radio. I said i'd been home a month from holiday and drove every couple of days, roughly 8 mile out and 8 mile back to and from work so it hadn't been sitting loads but thought it was worth hearing what he was saying. He said he charged the battery up, checked my car battery, disconnected my car battery or whatever to see if re-connecting it sparked the radio back to life, he checked the alternater and said it was all fine and in good condition. He said he'd fiddled around with the radio and again, that the fuses were all fine and still couldn't figure it out. So, it remains un-fixed. He suggested I go to my nearest MINI Dealership which is Shrewsbury and get them to have a look at it. He said its likely there will be roughly a £100 fee for them to even look at it and at least a 2 week wait to even get an appointment. I go away again in 2 weeks for 10 days - my work days are unpredictable beyond this and so, i'm undecided with what to do for the best right now. Whether to book it in for a few weeks time, have unknown costs hanging over me and deal with work after, or, whether to wait and wait until after the holiday. I just don't know, I just feel like its a complete mystery! - one day it works, two weeks later, it doesn't work anymore, it just won't turn on. Although I have only tried 2 mechanics, I live in a rural area, have to drive about 10 miles out to a garage and make a day of it in the local town whilst the car is looked at. I've done this twice now and, well, i don't have anything pressing to do in town anymore! It is just me and my mum at home, she works a lot so I am on my own in a sense, i can't drop it somewhere and get a lift back. I just feel like no one can offer me an answer, a cause or dare I say it, a solution to the problem. I am just undecided with where to go next with it or what to do. Luckily, its nothing crucial that has gone wrong in the car like, the engine or something mega important. It is just fustrating and its always on my mind as, as trivial as it may sound, I love my music in the car and hate driving along thinking there is something wrong with the car, that something just bugs me and I feel like I need it fixed. I don't know.. its a mystery and could be an expensive fix at a Dealership - ugh, I just don't know.... If anyone sees this message and can offer advice, please do! Thanks!

Hi. Can you send me more details of the car so I can have a look at images. The radio could have blown it own fuse. You will need to pull the radio out to get to that. Again, if you can tell me the year and model of your mini I can do some homework and hopefully give you some answers

@@tonyrepairs5558 Hi thanks for replying. My mini is a 2012 mini coupe - it is a 2 seater mini. The model is a 'MINI Cooper Coupe 1.6'. I'm not sure i'd be able to pull the radio out myself - wouldn't want to tamper with it myself, don't know anything about car mechanics or electrics but i'd appreciate any advice to then decide on a next step. Thanks

@@tonyrepairs5558 One other thought, my car safety features still light up/work/make sound. The radio is not completly blacked out.

@Imogen Sadler ok so I've done a little digging and one thing that could have happened is because the power went off the car radio could trigger the anti theft system. A good diagnostic tool could turn this back on. I also read that they do have an internal fuse on many so it could also be that. Because I'm not close to you I can only give advice from afar. It's quite hard to work on a car you can't see lol. Something I would try is, disconnect the battery again and leave for a couple of hours, this will hopefully trick the radio in to cokjbg back to life. When you reconnect the battery make sure you have the key in the ignition so the car knows its not being stolen. Hope this helps.

What if you disconnected the battery, does the ibus connector need to be redone?
@tonyrepairs5558
@tonyrepairs5558 2 года назад
Hi. If you done leave the ibus connected then yes you have to just touch the two together again and the radio will work. I have joined mine and I can take the battery on and off OK.

I have a 2002 mini cooper, and it came with a aftermarket radio. However, the original radio (cd53 r50) was in the back. Now I installed it, but it shows “disable”. I dont have the round plugs. It l just fits the original plug. How can I fix it? I dont need another wiring harness, do I?
@tonyrepairs5558
@tonyrepairs5558 Год назад
Hi. You will have to fit the correct connector for your original radio and make sure the IBUS wire is connected. If you don't all you will get is a disabled message on the radio. There is 2 types, flat pins and round pins. Depending on which you have you will have to match up with the radio you have. Hope this helps.

@@tonyrepairs5558 Hi, but the original connector fits perfectly into the radio. So how do I now what other connector I need?

@tonyrepairs5558 Год назад
Can you see if the IBUS wire is in? I'm jot sure what the colour is but it is in my video. It's been a long time since I did that. It does seam like the IBUS isn't connected.
@geertkolb8964

Yes the Ibus is connected. I also tried to hold the M button, but nothing happens. I just really want to get the buttons on the back of my steering wheel to work.
@tonyrepairs5558
@tonyrepairs5558 Год назад
I'm not sure what else as it could be that the Ibus wire has been cut for some reason. When fitting an aftermarket radio, it doesn't need that but it also doesn't need to be cut.

Could you run this radio if it was build off of your car?
@tonyrepairs5558
@tonyrepairs5558 Год назад
Yes there is a way but the wire that link with the ECU is to stop anyone from stealing the radio. I'm jit sure how you do it but I do know there is a RU-vidr that shows the radio working out of the car and on his bench. Sorry but I don't know who it is.

I disconnected the cd player to put an aux cable in . Put the main multi block back in and player says Disabled . Do i bridge pin 7 and pin 9 to reinstate ???? HELP !
@tonyrepairs5558
@tonyrepairs5558 4 года назад
This only works if you have changed from flat pin to round pin or visa versa. If it says disabled then it's not seeing the ibus. I would disconnect the radio from the power and make sure the ibus wire is in. It's a white and red wire in either pin 7 or 9 depending on if you have flat pins or round pins.
@tonyrepairs5558

Sorry I'm not sure what colour yours will be. But if you have a flat pin radio it's pin 9. Check to make sure it's not pushed out.
