bit.ly/Central... Mini Splits and central ACs are permanently-installed appliances that offer quiet cooling for your home or business. If you’re considering one of these systems, here are a few things to keep in mind. Central air conditioners are about 30% cheaper to install than mini splits. But if you don’t have existing ductwork or yours needs to be replaced -- this can double the cost of installation. Also consider that central air units require routine maintenance, and any repairs on your ductwork can be costly. That’s why mini splits, also known as ductless ACs, have become a popular choice for new homes or home additions without ductwork. So while installation is more expensive upfront, with a mini split, you’ll end up saving money over the life of your unit.

*Love this unit! Using upstairs in my sons bedroom **Fastly.Cool** and he’s finally able to be comfortable upstairs without me freezing downstairs. Works for more sqft than expected!*

As an Hvac tech, mini splits do have there benefits, but honestly, central AC you can still easily control every room temperature in the house with dampers aka registers (if you have ductwork) instead of a head unit in multiple rooms. install and maintenance cost is definitely much more expensive then central air, Imagine maintaining one unit with a coil on your furnace or air handler, compared to one unit (or 2 units) and 5 head units around the home which need copper refrigerant lines, drainage lines, and electrical lines to each one.

Meh its still cheaper in the long run to get a mini split, an archaic ac unit uses too much power and only lasts till it craps out within a few years

Mini splits are still WAY cheaper.

Yup. I researched in these two options and concluded a central HVAC system is easier and less costlier to maintain and aesthetically superior to mini splits. I saw a video of cleaning one mini split. It was dirty and time consuming (~1hr for each unit) and very expensive $300-$400 (technicians fee) to clean just one unit. Imagine the cost of cleaning 5-6+ units required for 3-4 bedroom house that requires cleaning 1-2 times a year. I don’t care if it’s a little less efficient.

@@AndyIbarra-vs1dqNot if you do the proper ducting (shorter runs, appropriate diameter duct for the room volume, good sealing, etc) and locating high efficiency central HVAC unit and ducting in CONDITIONED space. Most homes skimp on these and use cheap inefficient central HVAC unit/improperly installed ducting located in non-conditioned space making it very inefficient, like my former house. Also you should have a very air tight home with properly insulated outer walls, which will help with efficiency regardless of the HVAC tecnology. I hate those ugly refrigerant lines/wires running outside the homes of ductless systems. I didn’t see any evidence ductless lasts longer than central ducted system if properly installed and maintained. You can argue ductless can save you more in the long run, but I don’t think there’s a significant difference in cost once you factor in maintenance costs. It can cost $300-$500 per mini split to service 1-2 times a year depending on your environment. If you have typical 5-6 units in a house, that’s very expensive. You can do it yourself but it’s very messy requiring shop vac, spray tool, proper covering so you don’t get dirty water on your wall and floor, etc. And it’ll take about an hour per unit. You’ll need to climb up on a ladder to reach the unit which can be 8 feet or higher on the wall and even in the ceiling risking fall injury. No Thanks.

@@AndyIbarra-vs1dqno. Central units are hands down the reliability champs in HVAC. Mini splits selling point is up front costs and efficiency. If you get more than two head units though, you're right there with central ac. And as far as efficiency, you shouldn't be looking to your ac unit to take up the energy slack in a poorly insulated home. If you go cheap on the doors, windows, attic insulation, wall I sulation, roofing system or any other home envelope component, no HVAC system will make up for that. It's an uphill battle. Get a lower seer central unit, some efficient windows, redo the attic insulation, and use about four cans of spray foam and seal up your home. HVAC shouldn't have to be efficient in an efficient home.

@@JohnLee-db9zt Bangladesh. Once you buy an AC which you can buy starting from $300, you will get a fitting charge and copper pipe free. And if you have to reinstall it somewhere else then they would charge a maximum of $30. And the most popular AC brands here are Gree and General. But other companies like Midea (sub-brand of Carrier) are new affordable options.

Don’t forget that mini splits also offer heating and dehumidification . Perfect for a basement. That sealed the deal for me. Back up heat source and dehumidifier and cooling all in one

Would also mean that they are in use year round, Vs a high efficient ducted unit. Meaning = how long do they last or what’s the required maintenance? That’s is the question that’ll decide my next move.
@JohnLee-db9zt
@JohnLee-db9zt 4 месяца назад
Central HVACs also provide dehumidification. You can also add a dehumidifier next to the central HVAC if you require additional dehumidification. It’s not that expensive if you take into account the cost of mini splits. Also you need to take into account the cost of maintenance of that mini split that requires cleaning 1-2 times a year ($300-400 fee each time from a service technician). You can do it yourself but it’s messy and will take you ~1 hr with all the necessary equipment including a ladder. If you screw up, you’ll have to call a technician, lol.

So basically Central Air is one unit projecting cool air into existing ductwork. Mini Split is like having a team of mini ACs without a compressor being fed by a central unit that controls all of the compression for the system. Instead of air through ducts, the central unit's compressor cycles coolant through supply lines to the working units and back to the compressor on an as needed basis instead of blasting the entire house. A/C units with a proxy compressor.

If your willing to spend more, you can buy smart phone controlled vents for you Central air. Then you can focus the air conditioning into whichevher room you want

You need zoning built into your ductwork. Usually an Arzel system if you’re going for each room. $$$$$$
@chadd587
@chadd587 3 месяца назад
@@Dylan-to2jizoning isn't built into the ductwork, anyone can close the register. But doing that strains the system. You can buy a zoning plenum box that opens or closes off the duct to each room. Those rooms have thermostats that close a damper at the plenum when it reaches temperature. One by one they open and close. It's works well.

But latest ductable Ac that is central ac from Mitsubishi and daikin saves a lot of energy than multi minisplits , eg if your using kitchen , bedroom and drawing room a lot , the installing 1.5 ton that is 18000 btu central ac and connecting them through is much beneficial and i am talking about total area of 1200 sqft

So you need 3 mini splits for the bed rooms alone. Plus living room, bathrooms, dining/kitchen, family room, basement?, garage?, etc. It can get costly pretty fast and you haven’t even considered maintenance cost for each unit 1-2 times a year ($300-400 per unit each time).

I kinda like the idea of mini splits a/c compared to central A/c for a more energy efficient system but what about air-conditioning in bathrooms? Like for example it's humid and 100°... your gonna have to get one for your bathroom too...most bathrooms are small and have no space for a a/c split unit...

If you’re looking for a comprehensive cooling solution in multiple rooms of your home, then you would want to consider purchasing a multi-zone mini split. At Sylvane we offer two, three, and four zone configurations. These systems are a single outdoor compressor attached to multiple indoor air handlers. With many options to choose from, you can find the best options for you. For example, depending on the model selected, you can choose a system that’s capable of cooling a living room, bedroom, and smaller space like a bathroom. Multi-zone mini splits are the perfect choice for those seeking to create a more comfortable indoor environment in multiple rooms. A unique feature of mini splits are that the indoor units take up limited space. If you’re looking to just cool a bathroom and want something a little smaller than a wall-mounted mini split, consider a ceiling-mounted mini split which takes up a little more space than your bathroom’s ventilation fan does.

Bedrooms, bathrooms, washer/dryer room, living room, dining room, family room, home theater room, basement, garage, etc. You can easily have 8+ mini splits depending on the size of your house. That’s a lot of cost for the units, install, and MAINTENANCE.

central ac are more energy saving one not split to cool 1200SQFT of space you need 24000 btu central ac but for mini split 1 room requires at least 8000 btu to 12000 plus mini splits usually have small air blower motor so less cfm of air is displace and for central one u usually have option for upgrading blower with motor and can supply more CFM of air cheap mini split generally have 300 to 400 cfm air motor where as central have 900 to 1200 cfm air motor and you can upgrade it for more.
