So here's a side by side, under 1 minute tonal comparison between two of the more popular thumb drives on the market. Both set to 12 oclock on all knobs. Both going through a 61 SG reissue into a VHT D fifty amp.
Conclusion:
First off the Tumnus is obviously a bit louder at noon on the output. Not a big deal, plenty of room to boost the TS. So oddly, I think the Tumnus is a lot more naturally dialed in at these settings that the Tube Screamer. But, if I were to bring up the highs in the Tube Screamer to dial it in, I think I would actually like it less as they tend to get a bit harsh on the highs when pushed. The Tumnus is a bit tighter and more transparent clearly with less gainy sound but the TS has more color at 12 oclock. There's no where to hide with the Tumnus, like most Klon clones, you're going to hear every slight mistake but if you're a clean player it's going to make you sparkle. Especially through a dumble style amp like the one I'm using. For me, it would just come down to the gig. TS for more rock gigs. Tumnus for more blues and soul gigs.
