making my mini waste oil heater, small compact waste oil burner, cheap shed heating
in this video I'll be building a heater based on my original idea but adapted to suit my current needs and to include some ideas I've had on how to improve the design while incorporating solutions too a few popular questions. like over flow control, consistent fuel supply and I've added a heat exchanger due to popular request. how ever I am having a issue with a new switch in the build due to viscosity changes in the oil. once at running temperature it's fine but cold starting it with super thick sludgy waste oil is creating a buoyancy issue as the float sits much higher in the cold oil then it sits in nice warm flowing black gold...... to be continued
thanks for watching

Lot of work in this and very well engineered. Look forward to seeing how it runs.

ME TOO! Lol I'll sort a fuel system out. A dripping tap was such a simple idea, why oh why did I have to listen to people and try and change to make it "safer" 🤪🤪🤪🤪

Your a clever man Shane - and you make the fettling of metal into other shapes appear effortless. looking forward to seeing it burn!

Cheers bud, it's 80% working right now. I spent a couple of hours messing with it. I'll incorporate the necessary modifications over the next few days and get it running properly. But I'll pop a little video up by morning

I would prefer more in depth mate even over a few videos, I personally like the process more than the finished item,I must say I do like the look of this burner,it's a work of art

I'm the same and I like to hear why people do what they do, I'm just concerned I'm going to make people bored all the time. Cheers for the feedback 👍

Oh the suspense Shane...left us on a cliff hanger 😆 Nice work mate, your welding has gotten 100% neater well done! I agree, if you're going to build another one, why not improve on it for your needs as you have the bigger space to heat now. I like the top extension and heat exchanger idea, I think it will be so much more efficient, producing more heat output within the same consumption rate as the smaller one; instead of it going almost all straight up and out the flue. Yes mate, in depth videos are great, don't be afraid of milking a good thing, especially when most of us were reared on the stuff and love it 😂🤣😂 You know what I mean 👍 Oh' Steampunk is good!!

I got it working. My oil was really wet so that don't help neither. I'm going to slightly alter the lower half of the chamber as the wet oil kept boiling up and causing a little over flow. Thanks for watching dude I'm happy you liked it 😁

hi Shane nice job on the mini waste oil heater but that's way too complicated for me to do that i love the old one which i think i can do without a issue,

Hey buddy,,,, this is what i mean when i say you make it look easy!!!
@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt Год назад
Lol. It took ages but I did restart the build twice because I couldn't make up my mind and it took 2 whole bottles of argon... just picked up a fresh bottle. But not so easy as I didnt factor in the viscosity change in the oil.... new idea is maybe a switch to bypass the float untill the oil thins out with the heat.
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 Год назад
@@smithbuilt This is why I prefer a pump on a timer. you can set the dosage rate and unless the oil freezes, the output is always the same. Oil hight in the tank will also effect flow/ burning rate.
@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt Год назад
@@glumpy10 I got a timer relay board too. Got to work out how to use it, I was thinking of a primer bypass on the pump, keeping the float as a overflow cut off and using the timer circuit as the fuel supply rate control.... only issue is that's a lot of wires and none mechanical mechanisms for my primitive mind to make work in unison.🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

There is a video where I built a similar heater on the channel

Seems ur regulator needs attention or replacing. I'm new to tig and I had the same issue where it would blast air initially then settle. Found my regulator had an internal leak pressurizing the argon before the welder.
@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt Год назад
No that's how its supposed to be. It's called pre and post gas flow and depending on you're tig set you should be able to adjust both. You need pre and post gas to create a shield envelope to protect the arc prior to ignition and post flow to shield the run as it cools from inclusion and porosity. I've been a welder since I was a teen even have my codes, well there out of date now but for 15 years i was a coded welder, also done structural steel erecting, precision sheet metal work, programming robotic welders and now I'm just a retired schizophrenic welder with a hobby and loads of useless degrees and other qualifications in engineering. Funny how life turns out lol. But yeah it's all fun

Sure, get 20k in tools, about 50 in parts, several hours of labor and you too can have a $200 WOB that doesnt work. Nice welds.
