I had nine chickens well actually I started with three actually I started with two I adopted a older chicken off of Facebook who is five then I had three and after that this elderly woman I take care of had nine chickens that she can't take care of anymore so I brought them home and then a year later her nephews wife died and he didn't want his nine chickens anymore and so now I have 3chickens😂 This is all into span of 3 years so I definitely feel your struggle

I have a mixed flock, I have 1 serama, 3 silkie hens, 1 silkie rooster and 1 long neck silkie and mininue cochin and 2 RIR, and 5 RIR/Silkie pullets. I lost 13 this last year to various causes and rehomed 21 due to being a male or aggressive hens. my newchicks I bought are : 2 New hampire reds, 4 standard cochins and 6 naked neck pullets. My chicken math is bad, but I plan on rehoming the pullets in the summer to my mother who wants to be a chicken owner and wants to just have eggs and not deal with the poo poo butts etc

Me, too!!! I’m obsessed with miniatures and I want tiny chickens sooo bad! I’m resisting, though, because I’ve got one rooster and three hens, all Polish, and they’ve got some ongoing disagreements that I’m worried about. (Mainly that Aretha Franklin doesn’t like that Cyndi Lauper is head hen and Cyndi doesn’t appreciate being challenged! Aretha also doesn’t like submitting to Beyoncé the rooster-long story. So Aretha doesn’t get to sleep in the coop anymore and has to sleep on top of the coop-still in the covered and secure run-because she’s the only one who can fly up there.) My coop is also pretty small so I don’t think I could fit any more in there, especially if Cyndi didn’t permit them. She’s kind of a b@tch. 🤷‍♀️

Me: "Well, ummm....hard to say because I'm not sure which chicks are girls yet so I'm not sure who I'll keep and I'm still trying to decide if we're going to keep that nasty rooster or not and who can really count chickens anyway, with that whole solar eclipse thing happening soon?!" She is also the one that loves to sit on my head of shoulders to make herself taller. She is a hoot. Our rooster is also a bantam and he thinks he is all that. I love my mixed flock. We have two Sebrights. One is a special needs hen because she has respiratory issues... Chicken asthma? Even though ill, Iris is mean and keeps her position in the pecking order. Her sister, Attica lays pretty large eggs for her tiny size. They live with Bantam Cochins, Silkies, Paduanas, small F1 crosses and Collonca Araucanas. They are sweet, enjoy cuddling and pampering and have very special personalities. We love our tiny chickens.

I've started with bantam size chickens, then I added regular size chickens. I added first an ameraucana chicken, then two bluebell chickens ( they are so heavy), then Legbar chicks...all went good until the only one survived Legbar chick become a rooster, he felt in love with a to young silkie mix hen and, because he is much heavier she couldn't stay on her legs for some weeks. The vet told me to never put together a big rooster with a small chicken because he can damage her bones, mussels and body so much that she can die.

@alsoleve99
@alsoleve99 5 месяцев назад
It really depends… I’ve had mainly old English, seramas and Red Jungle fowl. Some species of bantams are definitely more wild than others while some are super friendly. However, if handled when they’re chicks, and exposed to children and adults frequently, when chicks grow up, they’re usually friendly and easy to catch. Some friendly bantam breeds are: seramas, old English, and silkies. They key is to get them when they’re chicks and to “hand-raise” them into adulthood.

I have kept chickens for the past 10 years now. Today I keep a large variety from brahma, cream legbar, bantam cochin to silkie bantams and modern english games. Imzadi (modern english game) is a daughter (all white feathered with a bit of brownish around her chest) from my girl Precious (modern english game / cochin bantam mix) who got caught by a fox last year :-( Fortunately Imzadi herself has a tiny daughter now who looks just like her mom (even is long legged) and even grandma ... My modern english games (Oriyana, Rani, Cooky, Arany and Imzadi) are my most favorite, yet all of my flock are very much beloved. Right now I have around 16 roosters running around. The noise is tremendous. Whoever tells me hens are noisy hasn't heard roos yet ....... 😆 70 chickens are roaming around 3000sqm of garden altogether ... I'm sending you lots of good vibes from Germany. Keep up the great work and thanks so very much for sharing the videos.

I had a tiny rooster I called Squeak, he looked like a fighting type breed. He crowed like a squeaky toy. I'd go outside & he would come up to me, I'd put my arm down & he would walk up my arm & ride on my shoulder. if I wasn't choring, I'd put my wild turkey hen under my arm like a football. My geese followed me around & I pet them like a puppy. I saw some silkies & I decided NOT to get them because they were dinky & eggs were size of quail eggs. My ex didn't care what I had as long as they paid for themselves (egg income paid the feed bill). My goat was flock protector & he stomped snakes. Guinea birds were better than a door bell & I knew ppl were there B4 they got out of their cars . Geese kept ppl away even tho mine were sweet, they did hiss & make fake passes at ppl I miss my birds so much. I loved them & know they loved me

Dalia, I need your advice. I have 8 chickens in a coop right now. And one in a small coop w- a small yard (neighbor moved and left a her). I’ve been doing good, I believe, at socializing all the girls via goat panel fencing. A couple days ago one of our dogs killed a hen. Now, the big coop w- a good yard has a net. I’m working on a new huge well secured yard with a bigger coop for all the girls. Dog is on tie down (long rope- supervised). I should have the new coop/yard finished in a month or less. Should I wait to put the single hen in with the other 8 girls then? Seems like the smart thing to do… neutral ground. One of my hens got in with the single hen and attacked her. I’ve been worried about putting the single hen in the existing coop. Thank you for all your videos, I learn so much from you.

I have some bantam RIR and they are the best chickens I’ve ever had. Now they are only one of two bantam breeds I’ve owned. The other ones were Millies and they were flighty and nervous. These RIR are the sweetest most interactive chickens I have. I just can’t keep them NOT broody! They love mothering!

My littlest bantam lays nearly full sized eggs! As long as a large egg, just a little narrower, and it's rough on her. I've been talking to my vet about chickie birth control options for her, but the implant only lasts three months at a time and is pretty expensive. Ideas anyone? She's not bleeding each time she lays anymore (she was leaving drips and smears and it was terrible), and she didn't prolapse, but her vent is NOT happy.

I love the little Danver(?). I'm a sucker for lavender (and splash) chirpins!! My 2 Mille Fleur will hold there own with all the other standard size birds. They also stretch, stand up on their tippie toes and puff out all their feathers so they look bigger. I've even caught it a couple of times that one of them starts the quarrel.

Love Nessie! I ended up with a surprise bantam. She was supposed to be an olive egger. She is the spitting image of my regular sized olive egger. I’m really loving her. Her name is June and she is a gem. I’m not sure what her deal is honestly. She has wonky feet. Her middle toes curve in and the back talon doesn’t touch the ground. She gets around fine and is super cute when she runs. She also gets all alpha to my biggest girl Dolly who is a Brahma! I’m the one who’s chickens were murdered by a neighbor dog. It’s taken a few months for me to bond with my new flock but I love them to bits now and can see all their personalities. I have three sapphire gems who are extremely flighty and I’m considering clipping a wing on them all to keep them safe. What do you think of clipping wings? I live in town and it would be a disaster if one flew over the fence. At this point I don’t let them free range in the yard unless I’m with them which is kinda sucky. I am not sure how to fashion some kind of bird netting in my yard. It’s not really equipped for it just yet. The variables are tricky oy! Anyway, thank you for all you do. I’ve learned so much!

I have 2 cochin bantams mixed with larger breeds. Little Yellow is buff. She is the smallest and does whatever she wants, and none of the others bother her. Brownie is a partridge cochin, and she's laid back and sweet, unless she's broody. She is at the bottom of the pecking order along with my high-strung and petite easter egger, Esther. Esther picks on Brownie too, so I guess Brownie is at the very bottom.

I just got four bantams last year, I ended up with two females and two males, I got two Sebright's and two Dutch old English game bantams, they must have been a mishap because one of my Sebright's turned out to be a mix between a Dutch bantam and a Sebright. They are the first tiny chickens I've ever gotten; I have 8 other chickens 7 of which are all Orpingtons and one an isa brown. To my surprise when they were introduced to each other they never even really integrated they completely ignored each other, and my bantams are like a whole separate flock I was really worried that my bantam roosters would fight my Orpington rooster, as has a big boy compared to them and I don't have 7 hens per roosters but now I've had them almost a year and they get along fine, I was so shocked. But bantams really are so sweet my Dutch Bantam roosters name is Mr. Attitude and he tries to herd me the moment I let out the coop.

White black Spanish chickens? I have one of those! I hatched her out of some eggs from a friend. Mine is so tiny! She has huge eyes compared to her tiny head. I have her in with some Brahmas and a bantam polish girl that were all hatched out together. She's so cute running under and between the legs of the Brahmas all the time.

Hello from NoDough Acres Madam President, I have some Black Breasted Red Old English Game Bantams. I absolutely love them, they are mixed in with my regular flock. My little rooster Alvin pretty much rules the flock, even against the 2 full sized roosters..lol We have a few silkies and a couple of Cochin Bantams as well. I love my little ones.

Methinks you must have a Japanese bantam with the huge fan tail - make it a silkie cross and wow they are so cute! I have pekins at the moment.
