The big problem with tiny dogs is that they’re allowed to get away with bad behavior. Most of the Dobermans and pit bulls I’ve met are well-behaved because their humans knew what would happen to them if they weren’t.

Because little dogs are 'cute and don't pose real harm'. Meanwhile, when a big dog isn't behaved properly and one does causes an attack, they will be generally feared based on race.

I agree cuz one time I went outside to take out the trash and this Chihuahua came at me snarling and trying to bite my ankles and the other time a pitbull can at me with her tail wagging wanting to play with a tennis ball in her mouth she's a big sweetie
@cristiaolson7327

@@mylittledogshoppesouthpark1350 I think the point OP was making is that the owners of small dogs often fail to properly train or socialize their dogs because they don't consider bad behavior inherently dangerous. I have met poorly behaved and model citizen dogs in all sizes, but more often the small dogs have been the ones with bad manners, and their antics are often paired with owners commenting on how funny it is that their little dog "thinks he's big". The owner of a GSD knows that it only takes one nip for their dog to be deemed dangerous, which incentivizes them to work with their dog on being sociable, but a small dog could bite multiple people and not be reported, so the behavior doesn't get corrected. I have owned small dogs who were loving and well behaved, because I trained and socialized them. Currently I have two pit mixes who are also sweethearts. It is "deed not breed", but owners shape the behavior of their pets though the reactions and work (or lack thereof) they put into their pets.

I think my German shepherd briefly thought she was just one of the cats. When she was like 50lbs she tried to launch herself up onto the cats bar like they do. My boyfriend had a miniature poodle. A real change of a pace for me since I grew up with a rottweiler. That poodle lived to be 21 years old, always ate everything with intense gusto and such a sassy and incredibly intelligent and loving pup. Even when blind at 18, he knew exactly what was going on and didnt need much help getting anywhere. He trusted us so well, he would still jog down the sidewalk with us. I had no idea a small dog could have so much intelligence and such intense personality. Love them.

Poodles are rated as one of the most intelligent dog breeds- you can see how quickly he picked up the training commands, so this situation could have easily been avoided in the first place with early training. God save us from owners who treat animals like children *eye roll* all it does is create needy, spoilt, insecure... and therefore unhappy animals.

Less risky to have a nippy Chihuahua than a nippy Pitbull or Doberman. @@kikyamart8749 doesn't matter the damage, small dogs misbehaving shouldn't be tolerated at any costs. And actually, even if bigger dogs are more efficient at causing damage, misbehaving smaller dogs lack self control and can deal a lot of damage if given the chance. There has been cases of small dogs hurting children because both the child and the dog don't know boundaries and then they are just so fed up with being held or teased by the child that they take out their frustration on whoever gets near. The breed or size should never be an excuse to allow small dogs to act out like this, it just isn't fair that bigger dogs only get one strike and then it means they get put down, whereas smaller dogs get so many chances and it is almost guaranteed to become rehomed so many times for its behavior that most of the time isn't corrected when it happens.

My mom used to breed toy poodles, and what I tell people about the breed is that poodles (this is true of all the sizes) are extremely smart, they learn lighting fast, and will either be the best or the worst dog you ever had, depending on *you* as an owner. It takes them no time at all to figure out what you will or won't tolerate from them, and how you will react to their behavior. They also need an outlet for their intelligence and energy, as they were originally developed as hunting dogs, so a bored poodle will find ways to entertain itself (ways you might not like) if it has no appropriate outlet or boundaries. If given training and adequate exercise though, they are great family dogs who are playful, affectionate and rewarding. (For the record, the same can be said about several others of the very intelligent working breeds. Border collies come immediately to mind here.)

Hes my child... Wait, you let your kids bite random people? its not even treating a dog like a child, because most parents don't allow biting guests :P

I have a 4 month old pitbull, she nips a lot, should I be keeping her on the leash at all times until she stops nipping or only if it’s a problem when she’s older? I assume all the time right now?

These are the types of owners that I would rather not visit. Just because a dog is small, doesn't mean he can lack manners.

I wouldn’t let my kids be codependent, insecure and aggressive so why would you let a dog?

Surprised these people had any friends with that one. I'd leave people for sure if they just let their dog do that.

I think you can perceive your dog like your own child, but as long as you respect their doggy behaviour and needs, and not personificate them

Look at her body language when Vic talks to her. Head up, showing her neck... this is usually a sign of being ready to fight and that's exactly what she is doing. She can't accept her dogs are... dogs.

It's always the owners fault and should never be the dogs 🐕. I have 2 German shepherd's and the training we put in and socialising them .The rewards are fantastic we can take them anywhere. Even on holiday with us.

Dont get a dog if its gonna be your "child". Get a dog as a friend, a companion, dont use them for personal comfort or some sort of replacement. Respect the difference in species and acknowledge the animal you care for as such.
