Miniature Roubo Workbench - Surprisingly Useful!

I made a 1/6th scale "Roubo" style workbench for my daughter's Christmas present.
It's surprisingly useful - considering you use appropriately scaled-down saws and planes. Make your own for 1/20th the cost of a full size bench, and you'll always have a Roubo in your pocket!

u can add rubber pads to the bottom of the legs to increase the grip too. might give some protection to the wood as well.

I’m building a mock up in 1/10th now to make my final decision on two matters for my own full build. Those being: Split top or single top & closed mortise and tenon or rising dovetail. Thank for the video.

For your daughter you can make a platform she would stand on while working and attach the bench to it. The secure attachment and her standing on the platform would make the bench less liable to move when sawing or planing.

Cool! I thought about the idea of building a scale model of a project to get a sense of how it will appear and operate. It also helps plan all the operations involved before committing costly materials to it.

Yes it's a good idea. Now I have a really good picture of what would be involved in the creation of the vises, where they would fail and how to fix it in a larger build.

I probably will not build the miniature version, but your video has sold me on the design of a Ruobo workbenches - so if I ever have room, that's the type I will make. I don't have the room for a full size one either. Now that I've explored the mechanics and how useful it is, I'm starting to wonder if it could be half scale and still as workable

Hi Tony, no, I just made it off the top of my head, and by studying the full-sized benches and reducing the dimensions. Like for instance, a full-sized Roubo is about 36 inches high, and this 1/6th version is just over 6 inches high.

I didn't draw up any plans, I just copied a full sized bench and scaled it down on the fly.

No, sorry - I always 'freestyle' my builds. If you can find a full scale roubo plan online, you can just reduce to 1/6th (or whatever reduction you want)

Nicely made bench. One addition I would add is to make the top surface into a vice by making one piece moveable.
