Hi, thanks for your question. This really depends on the circumstances and situation. You could do either, but depends on wind strength, how close you are to the shore etc etc. It's simple to lower the sail, but of course easier not to. :) If you'd like more information do please contact me directly: sam@minicatamaran.eu
Thanks for the quick reply... I just bought a 310 sport and I'm considering my options... Like, do I buy a small collapsable anchor or not (Croatian coast is not really sandy so taking the boat outside isn't always an option)
The anchor sounds like an interesting option, but as you say the coast in Croatia is mostly small stones and rocks. Maybe the answer is to keep sailing and don't stop for too long :) I'm sure you will have lots of fun. Please be sure to send us some photos and video so we can include you in our edits and post here. We wish you fair winds and lots of safe trips in your MiniCat. the collapsable anchor laid correctly will be fine. you must have plenty of line and a couple of meters of chain on the anchor itself Turn the cat into wind and lay enough anchor line so that the anchor line is no more than 20degree incline from the seabed. this should hold the boat in one place
ian white where do I put chain on a 3m long inflatable boat??? and there is nothing to tie it to, since the only connections are oriented up and could easily break if sails caught wind...
