Lovely video. Your relaxed style really matches the sort of ambient/synthwave sounds you were making! I haven’t looked at (ie understood…) wavetable stuff very much, but based on this overview I think I’m going to be spending the rest of December immersed in these intoxicating soundscapes. Thanks as always - your videos have been such a help and an inspiration. Not sure why I’ve never commented until now!
Huh this caught me unprepared. That is great news. Also, love that you created one of the sound packs in the store. Having some of my fav artists create content for my fav synth is just *chefs kiss* 🙂
That last patch you made has so much breadth and movement. I couldn't believe how varied you could get it sounding and could have listened to you drone on it forever.
YES. I am SO happy about this! I had begun to think they forgot about the mini freak as it hadn't had a single update since it came out over a year ago and almost no advertisement, so this is very nice. Thank you for the video ❤
I think at this point we can rely on Arturia to provide ongoing support for the Freak line. It's a double edged sword because they've set expectations really high with the microfreak - much higher than we have for most other synth makers.
What a lovely surprise this was ~ many mercis to Arturia for the update, and kudos to O. Sink for the incredible Deserted Lands freebie pack. This just made my holiday season a lot better!
A reminder on not to sell these Arturia Freaks, they're a gift that keeps on giving. Regretting selling my Microfreak. Had planned to upgrade to a Minifreak, but got sidetracked. Should think about sorting out out. Was thinking about a Hydrasynth Explorer, but, maybe I prefer the sound of these.
Hydrasynth is extremely flexible but tbh the sound of the Minifreak is much better due to the fliter. Filter models in the Hydra are so-so. Nowhere near as pretty as the analog filters in the Mini.
@@sub-jec-tivdefinitely, the filter is what gives it the edge. I think the effects are slightly better sounding too. And some of the voice models, especially the Noise Engineering ones for me just sound really nice through the filter
16:30 controlling depth inside the mod matrix via macro is something I had always wished for but had never thought they would or could really build. This is huge in my opinion!
This is such a great video. I also love your chilled narration. Just on the patches - I checked your website and could see the Minifreak patches - any chance of providing a link? 🙏
Beautiful patch with the saw lfo! Could hear you found something great as well 🙂👍 Btw, love your videos. Very relaxing and nice calm pace. Was uncomfortably stressed out but after watching this feel much better. 🤗❤️ Almost like a meditation 😊
Enjoying the insights and comments ... also really wishing for a second camera on the tiny tiny display, to see what's happening there. Amazing machine.
Hi, did anyone had this issue were it got stuck on the homescreen? I cant fix it, please i f anyone has been trough the same and know how to. Thank you 🥺
Dear Mr Sync, in your opinion: mini freak or Opsix for pads please? I have korg monopoly for lead, Roland 202 and a Td3 for bass to go with my digitakt. Really want a best fit for generative and ambient pads.
If you are willing to put in some extra work studying, if panning of individual voices are important or if you need more voices of polyphony, then the opsix. If you're looking for something more immediate but still with serious sound design chops then the Minifreak is really great. I'm a huge fan of both and have no problem recommending either of them.
The firmware notes say something about improved poly at support but as far as I know the minifreak doesn't actually support poly at and the release notes don't mention any details. Did you cover it here and I just missed it?
Interesting - that wasn't in the document they sent me. Any update will be related to how it reacts to incoming poly AT... Obviously the keybed hasn't just gained that ability. Edit: it has always reacted to poly-at - it's why it's fun to control it using a microfreak.
There were issues with incoming Polyphonic Aftertouch, where the notes would have volume/filter spikes when triggered. It's a minor thing and indeed only applies to external control since MiniFreak keyboard is mono-AT, but it behaves much better now !
I have to say, i’m not impressed.. i sold mine a month ago and i’m happy that i let it go.. there is just too much need for the effects, the device has a small sweetspot without the effects, the filter was just not my cup of tea! I’m lucky to have the analog four mk2 back after i sold it one year ago and since then missed it! By the way, this was the only time i regret a goodbye from a synth 😅
Yes i have the microfreak and only use the sequencer , the sound is sterile and never grew on me , it is ok as a layer on a better synth but the build quality (lack of) is staggering , the paint rubbs of as well
it's a RU-vid video, not your website, so you have to accept good and bad feedbacks by anyone. If you wan't some feedbacks, you have to close your contents to any comment. @@OscillatorSink
