After having watched so many videos on this subject and also going through the decluttering process myself I'm still blown away by how people seem to be so concerned with questions like: "am I minimalist enough?" or "how extreme do I have to go to be able to call myself a minimalist?". It is kind of disturbing : are we really this insecure? I'm perfectly happy to call myself a minimalist if I want to. And it is my personal definition that matters. I have no desire to count items and compare to other people. What I'm saying is: find your own comfort zone where you are happy with what you have and your home is easy to maintain and a happy place to be. Don't ever let anyone disrespect your efforts to improve. Be strong. Be rebellious and create your own personal definition! Comparison is poison

I agree, it’s so simple, keep what you love , need and use, and declutter the rest. Everyone’s journey will be different, according to what brings them happiness, you then will live minimally

I'm in the process of downsizing. It has been a daily struggle for several years to declutter each room so that I will be able to move to a smaller house. It is an awakening to realize that I have needed a big mortgage to simply house stuff that I don't need. A smaller housing cost will free me to do the things that I can't afford to do today.

I’ve been following Joshua for several years and even though I’ve traveled the minimalism road for a long time, I find that his content is often fresh, unlike other minimalists who I follow. I have put his book on hold at our local library (along with 38 other people! Haha)

I think everyone has their own level of “enough”... for me I wouldn’t be happy with completely Bare walls, But for another person it’s perfect and comfortable and calming. Everyone needs to draw their own line in the sand.

I would like to compare the process of decluttering and owning less as peeling off a layer of an onion one at a time. I do it for a while and then when it seems time to stop as other things need my time I let it go . When it strikes me again to do another layer I start again. It usually starts as something shifts in my life or a time of transition. As I have gotten older or technology has changed and I adopted other ways I let go of obsolete or no longer needing/using those items. As I can't lift things as before I adopted the saying if I can't lift it, move it easily (within reason) I will forgo buying it or keeping it. Also ask myself what would it take in my time to dust, clean, financially maintain it. It gives a sense of mobility and not being tied down...very freeing. Some people are great about organizing and I would say finding such a person to come along side you would be of great benefit or who has done that been there before. I have helped many in this regard as its a gifting and with it a flow comes and able to show how else the same object could be used for something else or placed in another room to serve a different purpose. Make it a matter of lifestyle as you would with making a change in eating healthy vs dieting. It's a daily process with great rewards.

Great information. I have been watching your videos and is now motivated to start my path towards minimalism. There is one thing, though that I would like to say. Focus on what you are offering and just leave your comments about others who are also taking the minimalism path of life. I think the others have a different belief and let’s respect their way of being a minimalist.

people don't realize how important digital minimalism is. how many songs or videos you have on your phone. same for all those photos - 99% which are out of focus or show you in a bad light or just unusable. junk photos. I say discard 99% of it and keep only the best of the best by far. you won't miss the other ones.

I just want to comment on the subject of "getting rid of people" like objects. I do not think you are in contact with a narcissist in your life. You are blessed if that is the case. It is not about being "selfish" and just want to take from people. It is about removing toxic people from your life that do not want the best for you, they actually want to hurt and harm you. Please look into narcissism and you will get a better idea. Thanks, love your material!
