You are so honest and such an inspiration to so many, Maddie. And you really are perfect the way you are. Whatever that is. I think we women ALL have fluctuating weight ALL of our lives. Definitely have learned to have the “expandable” wardrobe. Just buy the next size up and if you are a bit lower, it still looks good. Maybe add a belt. And when you are a few decades older, you will look back at yourself and see what I see now. I look back at my photos in my 20’s and 30’s and I can’t believe I ever thought I had to lose 10 pounds. Wah! What a waste of energy. Keep up the good work! You are doing just fine x

thank you so much for talking about this subject re: weight gain and decluttering. no one ever talks about this and i have gained weight because of stress as well and it isn't something easy to deal with at all. it can be very confusing and discouraging not feeling confident enough to wear clothes you once could. i commend your rawness and honesty about this. love you and your channel.

I have this "problem" right now. I used to be a too thin one, who does not get weight. I aged, I realised, I can not eat as I used to. And it was ok to me...but mental health problems and doctoral thesis stress get bad. (Medicines did not make me get weight...I used them 1 year without change in weight gain.) And I ended up getting 10 kg in a year'ish; compared to 1/2 kg a year I had gained from the age 25 to 31. Now between 31 and 32ish 10 kg. I know, I'm still totally normal weight, but since I used to be underweight until I was 25ish, this is hard to handle...and I can not talk about it to many people, since they might have "more real" weight problems.

Also don't feel bad for not throwing out things that don't fit. There is such a privilege in being able to get rid of clothes due to weight gain and buy a load more only to lose the weight again. Like.... That's expensive

When I was recovering from Anorexia, I used to have trolls on RU-vid tell me that I needed to "cut down on the snacks" because I was getting "chubby" - despite the fact they all KNEW I was recovering from a BMI of just 13. People behind the keyboard can be very unkind and, actually, quite evil to other people. Just give those kinds of comment your sympathy and then block them. They're not worth the air you breathe. You're wonderful

To fix Alex's jumper, thread the piece of yarn with a bobby pin, then thread it through to the inside of the jumper. Just like if you are sewing, you are just tucking the thread back inside the jumper.

You are a lovely person-you always have been and always will be! Bodies change. I'm not sure why our society is obsessed with the late teenage body, but newsflash-we are only teens for a few years. We age, we have kids, we change, and it's all beautiful. What a privilege it is to live life. So sorry that you have to endure trolls, their comments speak much more about themselves than they do about you!

It helped me a lot, when I gained weight to put the clothes away, that did not fit me anymore. Looking at them made me sad every day, so I put them away. When I lost the weight and fit into them again it was lovely getting them back and "shopping my own wardrobe". There were things that did not resonate with me anymore, as my process of gaining and losing weight was stretched and is still stretching over a few years. But its very nice, that I have not given them away, as I did with a few pieces. One I actually hunted down again and bought again, because I was so sad about giving it away. Sorry about the people being trolls and horrible! You're very strong for dealing with them!

Ignore the fun sponges who like to troll. Who cares if your weight fluctuates. You are a young woman with hormones and around the age when many women will have children so of course your body will change shape and that's so normal. You are a lovely person inside and out, and you contribute more to so many peoples lives than any troll will. Keep being you, that's why we love you 💕

One thought pattern that has really helped me when my weight has fluctuated in the past: have you ever noticed friends gaining weight? Chances are you haven’t, at least that is the case for me. Same goes for influencers: whenever I hear anyone speak about the fact they’ve gained a few pounds here or there I never think of it negatively, usually just that they look great and they’re being a little critic of themselves. And that is just it, the person everybody is most critical of is themselves! Same goes for clothes, do you remember what your friends were wearing the last time you saw them? Probably not, so why should it be different for the things you wear? Choose what you like and makes you feel comfortable and happy, everybody is too focused on themselves to really care anyways :)

I feel you, I fluctuate too due to a health condition & meds. I've found elastic waist trousers (like Lucy & Yak) skirts &shorts, stretchy denim, linen wrap dresses (off etsy), and loose shirts\jumpers (I can tuck in or out and button up or down) have all been lifesavers and wallet savers. Means I don't need to keep buying clothes, though I do have a few of the same jeans in a size up for months when I'm larger. It's frustrating and self love is needed! You always look great and I hope you start to feel great too. Size shouldn't make any difference, but women are judged so harshly by our appearance. X

@danab9865 4 года назад
I agree having clothes that fit a range of sizes really takes away from the added stress that comes with not fitting into clothes due to stress-induced-weight gain. It’s almost a life-saving tip. The last thing you need to worry about when you have 4000 things going on is whether you’ve got anything you could wear.

You have a great life wonderful partner gorgeous doggo and loving family they may feel jealous of this! Loved this video, I have 3 wardrobes: pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and post partum, I keep my non fitting clothes in my dresser and the clothes I'm wearing hanging up in my closet. It's a personal decision or personal situation of gaining or losing weight. I believe that no one should be nosy about anybody else's weight. I lost weight purposely and it's my business, no one else's.. i could have wanted to gain weight, same comment. So, for those that seem to be the "weight police", keep your comments to yourself. No one needs to explain or not their reasons!

Thank you for posting the video. It is really inspiring to see how open and honest you are, especially since I have gone through the same thing throughout the past years and fun fact: I'm a size 12 too! I definitely understand since my own mother told me that I was growing "wider" in college and I really hope she understands that a size I wear doesn't define me. I define myself through who I am and as long as I feel good in my body, who cares what the scale says?!

I don’t know why it’s a thing to comment on people’s bodies. Weight gain or loss is so personal, you have no idea if someone is ill or what the effect of your comments will be on someone. Really isn’t anyone else’s business.

I want to smack this commenter in the face! I've gained some weight too recently, partly because I haven't been able to afford good healthy foods as much as I'd like. I'm not mad about it though because I've gotten stronger through manual labour at work, so I don't feel like a slob. At first I felt bad about gaining weight because it means I'm a smidge out of the healthy weight range for my height, but I'm a strong thicc bitch so who cares?!
@emmaodriscoll3466
@emmaodriscoll3466 4 года назад
You have no idea how needed this was for me at the moment. I'm in recovery from an ed and am struggling to feel comfortable in my own skin. Most of the clothes I own are still too small. On the other hand, there are a few pairs of things as well that don't fit me now after gaining back most of the weight. Today I was going into town with my sister and was again trying to decide what trousers to wear which is SUCH a struggle because a lot of them are still quite baggy. I went to try on the pair of jeans I had to buy for Christmas because I literally had nothing that fit me. I felt straight away that I wasn't going to feel comfortable in them, especially if I was to have anything to eat , so before even trying to button them I folded them up and put them in a bag. Went straight to the charity shop when I got into the city and donated them. I completely get what you mean about not wanting to draw attention to yourself and wearing the same few things over and over. I struggle to leave the house a lot because I simply don't have many things to wear that I feel comfortable being in public in. I still haven't tried to shop for myself because I still expect to gain some more weight (I've hit my target (woo) but I feel a little more won't hurt) because I find trying things on a bit triggering still. It's also very hard to find nice things in charity shops / vintage shops because I live in Ireland, but I'm trying to be as sustainable as possible. It's tempting to just buy huge big jumpers, but I'm set on not getting ones through fast fashion. Anyways, thank you so much, your videos have been so so helpful to me, you're recipes make me so excited to cook and were key in my becoming vegan. Also, whoever wrote that comment really needs to check themselves. I don't understand a person who can write and post a comment like that about something that is absolutely NONE of their business. Do people not realise that their words can affect people??? I'm so sorry you had to read something like that. Xx ❤️❤️

People are so focussed on weight, their weight, the weight of others... Why can't we notice kindness more, or intelligence, or just focus on your own actions and how they impact others. I think it is totally fine to come to people from a place of concern when they suddenly gain a lot of weight, or lose a lot of weight because either can indicate disease. It is just the comment you got, that is so disrespectful and meant to bring you down. I think you take such a mature approach to the message and I think many of us can learn from how you deal with this. Lots of love.

Not that my opinion about your body matters, because it doesn't, but I literally couldn't tell you'd gained weight. Who are these people with no lives who scrutinize and feel the need to criticize or speculate about the reasons for people's body weight? You're gorgeous and engaging, and honestly be gorgeous and engaging at any weight. Weight fluctuations over time are totally normal, and I wish women could just live our lives without worrying about our bodies constantly being treated as a public performance for consumption by others. Yeah you're a RU-vidr, but that doesn't mean your body belongs to anybody else but you. You're beautiful, you're beautiful, you're beautiful. If you get confident with sewing, you can let out the sleeves on that lovely dress, and even add darts of fabric to the back of trousers (where you can't see with a top over them) to give you more room. You can also sew a loop of elastic to a button to give you more room in the front. I learned all this from my mum - we have the same sort of weight fluctuations so thought I'd let you know ☺️

Thank you so much for being so honest. I just bought some new clothes after gaining weight. In the past 1 1/2 years I went up two dress sizes. Last year especially was very challenging because life was difficult. But I'm really trying to get better and accept the circumstances. Just today I told myself that it's normal to be different; that I suffered a great loss last year and it's normal that I'm not the same person I was before everything happened. I'm getting comfortable with myself again having new clothes that actually fit me. I can look into the mirror and can honestly say that I'm pretty and I like myself. Your message in this video just sums up everything I've been thinking about life changes. So after watching your video I just bought your book, for you being honest and real xx

So refreshing to have someone talk about weight gain rather than weight loss! You haven’t once said you are going to crash diet to get back into your clothes 🥰❤️ (I personally don’t think you look like you’ve put on weight at all - you still look lovely) xx

So happy you did this video! I am very into body positive, but as well, unfortunately, very influenced by ‚fit world’. When you first said that you were going shopping because you gained weigh I was like ‚what?’. I always stucked with not so comfortable clothes waiting untill I loose weight again, so I was stuck with not-so-pretty-not-so-comfortable-not-so-flattering clothes for YEARS. It was crazy. Thank you for showing that side of decluttering and self care. We need more of this! ❤️

You can also get a "knit picker" that can help fix pulls in knits. Definitely a good thing to have around if you love knitwear.

You know what I hate? That ppl are so judgemental! If you did put on waight its no one else’s concern and no one should point that out to you! I am struggling toget rid off baby weight and I have ppl commenting “oh you still carry a bit of baby weight”., I am size 12 now. I hate those comments and it hurts me so much! #be kind always 💚

I gently manipulate the sweater in every direction and then what does not go back into place I pushed through to the inside. I think every woman as we age gains weight no matter how hard we work at it. So as you know already, and as hard as it is try not to let anybody discourage you just be you because you are a wonderful person that is beautiful on the inside and out. I always look forward to each and every video. Fyi I love the longer videos 😉

I’m going through the same thing with my clothes, I fluctuate between a 10 and 12 and i invested in several medium sized dresses. So much more comfortable and i can wear them what ever size i am! - Love your videos ⭐️

I’m going through a stress related weight gain myself, and I want to thank you so much for making this video. You’re right that it’s hard to make decisions about clothes that may not fit you right now, but that it’s not unrealistic to think they will in the future. I have also been trying to build more of a flexible wardrobe that I can wear around my bigger size and smaller size (relatively speaking). I decided this past weekend that I would be storing my smaller sizes away for now as if they were seasonal, and if I don’t find that I am able to reach for those items in the next 9-12 months, I will declutter them. I feel like it will make me feel less guilty about not being able to fit in those clothes, and prevent me from using them as a “goal,” because I try not to have weight related goals anymore due to previous disordered habits. Anyway, thank you again. You rock, and you in NO WAY look fat. That person is clearly projecting insecurities.

I have gained weight too lately (stress, health issues and so on) and I'm starting to be at peace with it : after all life is change and movement, and so are we, at some point we're skinny, at some other we're overweight, at some other we're fit, muscular, and so on. It's not a fatality, like the tide ebbs and flows, the moon grows and wanes :) Thank you for the decluttering tips and making me laugh with "hello spots" ^^

Learning to deal with stress and anxiety in other ways than food has made a world of difference for me! And stretchy clothes is great when I' feeling a bit bloated. My mom has boxes of clothes in sizes that doesn't fit her.

Madeleine, You are awesome and you are the first vegan I found on RU-vid and have inspired me to eat vegan. I have made several of your recipes and they're great. My funniest vegan cooking story is from your chocolate chip cookies (I am in the US and I had my oven set at 180 F not 180 C (350 F) ). THANK YOU for everything you share! You are actually making the world a better place - unlike some internet trolls!

Madeleine, you look beautiful in every size! :) it's not about size XXS or XS, it's about confidence. Female body is changing, for example me - i had 33 kg up during my pregnancy, 22 kg still up after labor. 10 kg up when i was twenty, because of hormonal anticonception, next 6 kg up because of stress...... i hate trolls and their hateful comment. This is the dark side of social networks. Only one thing worries me - you look tired, kinda burnt out or what. Take your time, relax, be offline! i love your channel but i can wait weeks to your new video, if you will need weeks to get some new energy :) (I'm sorry about my english, hope you will catch a meaning of my czech-english letter :) )

A UK size 10 is a US size 6, which is TINY. UK size 12 is a US size 8, which is also very slim. You’re tall and gorgeous - don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. ❤️🌷

Darling, excuse me, I see no weight gain. Even if it's there you look good! I totally get this decluttering-because-weight. I have no thyroid and last year I suddenly gained 8kg and it's was going back and forth. Now it's all good, but it was a mess in the beggining. Wishing you luck and sending love from Poland

They need to add a love button on here honestly. I've been following your channel for a few years now and I continue to follow your journey because I see someone just like me. You are a representation of so many young women in the world and it is so wonderful to know that the things I struggle with are normal and that other women have some of the same issues. I am 29 and have just had my first baby so my body has changed dramatically and I have no idea how to dress myself or how to connect with my new body but all I can do is try. Good idea to have pieces that can grow and shrink with you! I also fluctuate between sizes and honestly I think we all do! Love and support from Windsor Ontario! 💚💪🇨🇦

Oh Madeleine, no worries about the troll, it's not a simple weight gain, it's adrenal fatigue --> low cortisol level --> thyroïd hormone T4 unable to convert into T3. It's a classic for exhausted people. So just relax as soon as you can, take iodine supplement, I can't see if you eat much algae, take vitamine D (I think you do already), and big walks with Roxie will regulate your cortisol levels. All this from the point of view of a certified naturopath who really cares for you 🥰

You’re freaking stunning, brilliant and hardworking. Putting on a few pounds, losing a few pounds, no one gives a shit. I don’t know if it’s good to hang on to clothes if they don’t fit us. There’s freedom in letting them go and having clothing items that fit you well and are comfy 💙

I have the right brand for you if you want to wear it at a size 10 or 12 or whatever...it's the ethical and small linen company from Lituania that you can buy on Etsy, it's called "Not Perfect Linen" I think you might like some of their styles, they are so comfy and wearable at any season, linen is actually the most sustainable material and it refreshes you in the summer and blocks cold in winter (when you wear it with some warmer materials)... check it out, you might like it. I've changed all my wardrobe last year and stopped wearing any polyester fabrics (even if they were bought at thrift stores) and I actually don't need much, the Not perfect linen clothes are basic and go well with so many other stuff you might already have...it actually changed my life because I also gained weight and I'm always jumping from one size to another but with these clothes I keep them the same ones from one size to the other. When you wear linen it actually is a style of life...ethical, sustanaible and minimalist. Love it. And you look beautiful, can't see that you gained weight or not... that burgundy velvet dress is sooooo beautiful. Oh and I love that purple cord jacket on Alex, it looks so good on him.

You talking about weight gain is no ones business at all. However all women I know their weight fluctuates, up and down, up and down. It’s a nightmare for trying not to have too much stuff. I also do the 10/12 up and down thing. I’m certain that this is a feminist issue. What would be lovely if we could feel less shite about being a larger size. It’s such a first world problem. No judgement though, as I’m just as pissed off and sad when I’m not happy about my ‘size’. But sadly like you it has an effect on how we feel. I’m sure it’s a way of getting us to buy more stuff. I’m sure men’s wear allows for more fluctuations! As my partner has fluctuated and can still wear the same fecking clothes. So talking about this is helpful. Ignore the trolls they are always pouring out hate, they’re are very unhappy people. You’re beautiful inside and out. You’re also putting yourself in the firing line talking about this stuff and I for one appreciate it enormously Xxx
