Long time silent watcher here! 😂Just a tip for you regarding wanting to keep clothes that may not currently fit... Similarly to putting away summer clothes in winter, you could try putting away clothes that don't currently fit that you still want to keep. That way you aren't seeing those potentially triggering pieces day to day, and your wardrobe is only filled with the clothes that you can wear right now! You can then revisit them on your own terms like you said. Thank you for discussing this in such an honest and positive light 🥰xx

I've really been enjoying your longer videos. I deal with chronic pain, and it often means I'm resting for long periods of time. I love that I can turn on these videos and just relax without searching for something new to watch. It also kind of feels like I'm catching up with an old friend which is helpful, because I often can't go out with mine.

We had the same damp issue behind our IKEA wardrobes. The good thing is that you can just purchase new insides of the closet and hang the old doors on it. The doors are usually the most expensive thing when it comes to IKEA furniture, just a tip :)

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about body image and love of clothing and different life phases so eloquently. This video resonated with me so much and actually made me a bit emotional - so much of what you say in this video is 100% me, but I have never vocalised or coherently/consciously put these thoughts together in my brain. It was truly such a true lightbulb moment for me watching this - thank you Maddie!! You are by far my favourite person online, and for exactly this reason - your videos feel like catching up with an old friend. Thank you for sharing with us xx

My body has changed through pregnancies and while I do live an active lifestyle the shape of my body is just different now. I should probably acknowledge this and move on from clothing items, too, that just don't look flattering any longer. It's basically a form of selfcare not holding onto these items. Thanks for your inspiration!

Your damp/ mould will more likely be caused by the warm Air in your home, hitting the cold wall. As a temporary solution during the winter you can put up some insulation behind the wardrobes. Unfortunately living in an older home in the uk it’s a common problem. Also wardrobes on an external wall in an old home is not a good idea. When you refit, try building them on an interior wall.

All of this resonates with me so much!! My Firetrap and FCUK jeans that are a size 10 finally went in the declutter bags this year. It''s been a 5 year journey of coming to terms with the fact that even if I lose ALOT Of weight, I will never be back to my pre-steroid, pre-kidney disease body. And that's ok (now). As you said, bodies are always changing and fluctuating, it just is hard to teach yourself to be ok with it and come to terms with it. So now I have a load of lovely space under our bed that can store the lovely things that do fit, do flatter and are me now :) Loving the content, especially recently - you're emanating such positive and 'real' vibes and I love it

Your jeans talk was incredibly relatable. Accepting my post baby body means buying bigger jeans but I kept my smaller “skinnier” me jeans in the hopes I’d one day fit them. But every time I go into my closet I see them and instantly have negative intrusive thoughts. Sometimes I ignore them sometimes they’re so intrusive I can’t help but go into a sad head space. So thank you for talking about this. A simple pair of jeans can change my mindset. How silly yet true.

I remember also always refusing to buy pants a size up from the one I needed before, but I finally accepted that I want to be comfortable much more than caring about which number is on my clothes. The only really frustrating thing is when a store doesn't carry the size I need at all. That made shopping for pants even worse. I really appreciate you talking about these things ☺
@amma7244
@amma7244 Год назад
This is so helpful and what a treat to have such a long video where you talk out your process. At 63 and also tall pants and skirts are for sure a struggle and I bought linen dresses for the same reason. Oddly weight fluctuations at this age don’t seem to have clear reasons and seem like the old days pms water weight🙄. I’m trying to model body positivity for my girls and grands and my ED therapy clients. It’s a daily journey even at this age. Also from experience you may want to move wardrobes off exterior walls and put a dehumidifier nearest your problem walls. It may be an insulation and vapour barrier issue as well. Lol our old houses have some challenges. 🥰🇨🇦

I live in an old house like you and had a problem with damp cupboards and wardrobes, my best advice while your waiting to repoint is to keep a door open to each part of your wardrobe to keep air circulating (damp usually gets worse when there is no airflow), buy an eBac dehumidifier - absolutely life changing these things! They are more expensive but are absolutely worth it.. they catch so much moisture from the air! And then make sure where the damp is your not overfilling the space to keep the air moving around.

That was a really good declutter! ~ your honesty with yourself and viewers is so refreshing that it makes me smile :) I struggle with weight gain and find I only fit into less than a quarter of my wardrobe content. Re. mould/damp issue, consider drylining whole wall behind wardrobe. Repointing alone won't solve the problem as solid period granite walls, like solid Victorian brickwork (where I live) have no insulating cavity, and are permeable to external atmospheric damp. Most general handymen/DIY-ers can do drylining as it's not specialist work. It's just timber battening-out of internal wall, infill with panels of solid foam insulation panels (sustainable as they last for ever), and then (silver backed) plasterboard over top. Your heating bills will be lower too!

Loved this video! I have noticed that the quality of Jaeger clothes has gone down massively in the last couple of years. I bought one of their coats and within 6 months it looked super tatty, in spite of being well cared for. I was told by someone who used to work there that they changed supplier so the clothes don’t last. I find that Jigsaw clothes are still very high quality and durable if you want a high end coat x

I really appreciate talk of weight gain/loss and how clothes fit and how you sometimes just wanna keep clothes in your closet because you'll fit into them later. I'm only 21, but naturally not the same size as when I was a teenager, and I had to give up some of my absolute favorite pants that I wore all the time and I still haven't found a great replacement for those. for a while I didn't even have pants that would be comfy enough to wear on classes/sit a long time in so I had to buy a pair new from the store. now I've found some really nice clothes 2nd hand, but I'm still searching for the perfect pants.

I don't have a 'maybe' pile. If it isn't a 'Hell Yes!' - it's a 'Hell No!" I do have a pretty extreme mimimalist 'wardrobe' due to my anxiety. In the beginning of 2021, I went down to 3 tops and 3 bottoms. I own 2 pairs of shoes (one for work - one not) and one pair of boots. One winter coat. 3 purses - 2 for winter (one was a birthday gift) and one for summer. Debating getting rid of one purse lol! I know this is extreme for most folks, but it keeps my nerves calm. Oh and...I did buy 3 new tops for work! Progress! lol!

Totally understand the curiosity of really owning your style, i did the same last year, when i lost weight then i put it back, i was tired of feeling/looking good in my opinion only when i was skinnier. I decided i wanted to look my best at any weight and any age! So i started doing more research on my colour season , on my body type and on my kibbe body type too! I resulted as a Warm Spring, soft hourglass body shape and soft classic (kibbe)! Now all of my choices in dressing are guided but what i know looks best on me, and i've never recieved so many compliments in my life, people telling me that i look slimmer although my weight didn't change! So if i can suggest anything that really changed my life, try to understand al least your Season and your body type, there are a lot of good resources but my favourite one is probably "the concept wardrobe" and Gabrielle Arruda's yt channel :) hope this helps

Maybe you don't wear your skirts because the way they are hung. I have clip top hangers for my skirts so that they hang like my dresses and are therefore more noticeable. When I used to have them folded over hangers like you have I used to forget about them.

Regarding the colour of your linen dress: I'm not sure if someone already wrote this, but you're probably a winter (possibly a deep winter, which would explain why the "neighbouring" autumn colours aren't that bad - but honestly nobody can "diagnose" someone over camera or a photo without an in person draping) and the reddish linen dress is just not richly coloured enough. Your Christmas dress is, though! And I'm sure it looks AMAZING, reminds me a bit of Audrey Hepburn's absolutely gorgeous dark red coat in My Fair Lady. She was probably a fellow winter.

Instead of changing the buttons, just sew up part of the button hole 😀

Madeline! I adore you! I’m also a tall gal! I can so relate to your clothing “length issues”! I looked around for a link to those wonderful high waisted leggings you were wearing. If you see this, may we have the exact name? Thank you! 🥰 love all your videos!!

Unfortunately, Lululemon leggings are mainly made of nylon (if that matters to anyone).

I don’t know why you would keep a pair of jeans that are obviously a trigger for you, I do admire your honesty and how we women can view our bodies which is why I say this with love … chuck them them out give them to a charity shop and someone will love them and wear them all the time, if you do want a new pair of jeans to wear now you have the opportunity to have a fun day searching through some charity shops to find ones that don’t have any bad memories to them and you will wear over and over again. Sending you love from Devon ❤
