I find your "strict criteria" approach very inspiring. I've been confused with an ever expanding collection of random things, and I respect the sense you have imposed on this!
This is very helpful for me. I have a minimalist wardrobe too but just something has been missing. The categories…that’s what I needed to hear about. That’s where the holes are. I rarely have to dress up, but when I do, there is nothing. Also, the lounge wear category. I wind up in PJ’s all day and would rather at least change into something I can quickly run to the store if I need to. Thank you for making this video. New subscriber here ❤
Very inspiring, I really enjoyed this! We can all do with more wardrobe simplification to open up some mind space for other things. It’s much harder to structure yourself at first, rather than just buying what you see and like, but once the structure is there the temptation to deviate is lessened.

Please go over the dress choices when you get the other two back. I love dresses, so easy and a whole outfit without effort. I made some similar wardrobe decisions recently. I decided I only wanted black casual pieces for most of the year. I will get something separate in for summer (likely in white), but I don't need much. I rarely dress super casual unless I am at home or running errands. I don't need a mix and match capsule just for that since I work outside the home five days a week and don't like looking causal at work most days. I also decided that a few matching sets will really make a difference so I am on the hunt. I did get a casual wear set with jogger pants and a half zip hoodie and have leggings, a tee, and tank to coordinate that with. Outside of casual wear I would like to get a navy dress suit, a denim matching set (just purchased a jacket that matches jeans I already have), a linen skirt two-piece set, and a linen pant two-piece set. I love your approach!
My wardrobe is very minimal as well. I have minimal colors as well. Black, white, gray, blue , pink , tan and carmel. I wear jeans and a work shirt for my job. So I don’t have to wear dress clothes. But I have 4 dressy tops.
Could you go through where you got these items? I struggle to find places to buy classic pieces that fit a minimalist closet that are timeless, easy to pair, and nice quality.
They are truly so old (most over 5 years), so I'm not sure if it would be super helpful, but as I go to replace items I will keep my audience updated! :)
I have been declutering my wardrove and I am so glad I found your video, I won’t have such a few pieces like you but it is helping me a lot to structure it more and know the purpose of my clothes, I love the categories you grouped your clothes like dress-up, daily and dress-down, this formula is the best I found for me ! First time viewer, new subscriber. I really appreciate hearing your thought process for why you have each piece and how you've deeply considered all aspects of the purpose the piece serves. I dont have a minimalist aesthetic, but i aspire to have a minimalist wardrobe because we have a very small space here in the UK. I have a lot to learn anad appreciate your tips. PS. This is really brilliant! Thank you for sharing! It might have been direct inspiration for me when I was younger and still lived in Canada. As I age (and I honestly didn't use to believe in this) it have just hit a level of contrast loss where I can no longer wear black!!!! (Sigh!) The one question I have about it is the lack of back-ups. How can you have just one set of active wear and one set of pyjamas per season? I realise you doubtless have a dryer (which I do not, living where I now live) but I still couldn't manage. I am not criticising, I'm just very curious about your system for managing that. I'd love to see your outer garments, I will definitely be sharing with my mother, who is still in Canada. Regarding weight, I don't know where you have been on your journey in the past, but you certainly have an enviable figure now! Your back looks amazing in that dress! It's beautiful, by the way. I'm so glad you enjoyed! Thank you for your thoughtful question; it's a bit hard to describe in words, but I make sure every adjacent category can also be well suited to the category at hand. This can mean that my dressed down tops/bottoms need to also double as loungewear. My loungewear needs to double as pyjamas. I hope that makes sense! That's how I get away with less :)
With all due respect - have some fun! 90% of your closet is just super basic (and repetitive) black and white pieces. No patterns, no colors, no playful shapes or textures… your “Christmas pajamas” are the only thing in there with any spirit. Life is so short, why not mix it up now and then? Fashion is self-expression and I can’t help but think these super plain and hyper minimalist closets are expressing something internal that needs resolution, maybe a loss of identity or a fear of losing control.
But minimalism is an aesthetic as well as a way of life. In this case, I would guess she is minimalist in both ways. That's okay! I learned the minimalist aesthetic is generally monochromatic or 2 colours, typically. Even 3 colour outfits can seem busy for a minimalist aesthetic. To each their own! If making less decisions in the morning and knowing everything will mix and match, isn't that okay? She could easily add various accessories for a pop of colour and brighten things up without spending a lot of money or requiring a lot of storage space. I found the explanations very useful to think about when and why you are buying and using each piece.
I know you're coming from a kind and curious place, but I just don't enjoy expressing my creativity that way! I enjoy the basics and the simplicity :) that's why I gave my many disclaimers at the end to try to make this video useful for people who love bold colours/patterns too!
Colours can be only white or black but what I find boring here are the shape and the materials. If you ad some good design and textures in the clothes you can be monochromatic and yet stylish 😊
