Subscribe to this channel to see the amazing food prepared in this small kitchen, and chew on some food for thought as well.
We can all benefit from redefining what "enough" looks like, and re-think what we think we "need." I work part time so I can live full time, and so can you. Maybe not to this extreme, but certainly downsize, minimize, and reevaluate some "stuff." It's possible to do all the things you SAY you wish you could do (volunteer more, read books, take yoga, breathe, cook, bake, hike, kayak, and lead a stress-free life in service to others). This is a tour of my RV followed by an explanation of my transition from a conventional lifestyle to being liberated and at peace. This isn't very different from renting a room in a friend's house, except it's significantly less intrusive. If you have more than enough, don't raise your standard of living, raise your standard of giving. Build a longer dining table, not a taller fence. Live simply so that others can simply live. Namaste.
When you get little, you want more. When you get more, you desire even more. But when you lose everything, you realize LITTLE was enough. /|\
______
Timber Hawkeye, bestselling author of Buddhist Boot Camp and Faithfully Religionless, prescribes gratitude as medicine for people to heal themselves from the inside out. His message invites the best version of you to resurface, inevitably leading to the true meaning of success (being happy), and better health (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual). In an ongoing effort to eradicate society's ever-growing sense of entitlement, which he considers nothing short of an epidemic, and replace it with a sense of appreciation for each breath we are given, Timber's intention is to awaken, enlighten, enrich and inspire, by sharing mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to and implement in their daily lives.

I have watched so many hours of minimalism content, but this video of yours has all the juice of minimalism in just 18 mins. I too have become a minimalist myself, as from my early days I was always inclined towards feeling more at peace with living simply, but now I have embraced it fully with all my heart, and I see all the stress to cope up with the world, just for the sake of it is gone...now I sigh only with relief. 😊....instead of running after money to buy things others own, I now do things which are more pleasureable and costs nothing, like connecting to nature, enjoying time with family rather than technology, loving the neighbourhood I live in daily rather than 2 weeks of holidays I get once in a year.

“Working part time to live full-time.” that’s a brilliant thought! How sad is it that we work full-time to live part-time.

That's pretty much what Buddhist Boot Camp is about: living in gratitude full-time, redefining "enough" so we experience the world from the perspective of abundance instead of lack, and bringing mindfulness to the present moment instead of being stuck in the past or having anxiety about the future. :)

I've been fulltime rv living for 6 years and it was the best decision I've ever made. I'm a single dad and raised my son on my own. He's loved it as well, it's like camping every night. He graduates high school soon and he'll be taking my RV to live in while he goes to college. As for me, I'm going to do the vanlife. To say I'm excited is an understatement.

I chose an 1985 Airstream trailer to live in on my patio and rent my unit out for income. I recommend this if you have a stationary space where you can place it and hook up to sewer. It actually increases in value and is well made. I absolutely love the energy of the curved ceilings . I am working on the minimal aspect but I have come along way. I find myself traveling to Mexico a lot where its so cheap to live and the food is awesome.

Life is short and i am a traveler and she is not so off i go. Thanks for the video. :)

It's important to take stock of your life at every stage. I'm 71 and fit. My wife is 63 and retires in 18 months. 6 months ago we decided to pack it all in, go as small as we are comfortable, and live on the road. By the time she retires, we will have no debt, not even on the 20-foot trailer we just bought that we will live in. She wants to work until age 65 when her retirement and Soc Sec will kick in. It takes a lot of planning when you're a senior to go sustainable. It takes a change in attitude from "wanting it all" to "I have more than enough". When you get to that point the Universe opens up for you. You are actually HAPPY! You smile a lot just because you do. Your health is better. Your food tastes better. You see people for who they are, not for what they do. All the sh** that others put up with no longer exists in your world. Sometimes just taking in a big breath of fresh clean air feels better than a paycheck. We are taking time to breathe. I hope to see all of you on the road sometime.

Thanks for the Video. Well done and well said. My wife and I lived in our sailboat and traveled much of the world over a 25 yr period . Not because we were wealthy but we adopted much of your philosophy. We are not Buddhist but think along those lines. People would think that we had a big inheritance (we had none) or some kind of wind fall. We have had experiences in life that money can’t buy. At 74 yrs old we are getting ready to do it again with a motorhome. see out there!!

A studio was my first apt and I love it. It’s very big for a studio and people tell me the same thing. I am now over 40 and still in my studio and I pay less on my mortgage than what some ppl pay for rent. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I tell my friends and family if you do not want to see my studio then do not visit. I just do not get why ppl live their lives for others. I am almost done paying for it and I am staying right there. I drive a Mazda 5 and it is a used car with no payments. Do not get sucked into the world of everyone trying to keep up to the Kardashian’s and spend what they do not have. I am a teacher and I love my life as I travel and enjoy life and am very stress free. I see all my friends who are doctors and lawyers and work with corporate companies how stressed they are. They can keep that life We need to get the notion out our heads that we must have all the latest gadgets and wear brand name clothes. When my friends tell me to get with it I laugh to their faces because I am so relaxed. Define your happiness and do not let others project on you because with all the material things they are bloody unhappy. Just look at how many celebrities on drugs commit suicide etc yet ppl yearn to live that lifestyle. Live life on your terms
@estherstephens1858

I’m not saying that your friends are that way but, you know the old cliche....misery loves company. Ppl can be envious of others when they are not in the same struggle(financial).

I love your kitchen area. When lived in an RV, I cooked everything from scratch: bread, yogurt & every single meal. It was the healthiest I've ever been. I rode my bike to work. I was fit & free. I had very little money, but I had time. I appreciate you exposing the "big lie" we are all programmed into at a young age: get a good job, a 30-40-50 year mortgage, new car every year & spend, spend, SPEND with your credit card & you'll be happy. There IS another way.

Working part-time to live full time. I've been living as a solo nomad since 2004 and traveled alone since 1996. For the past few years I've managed to live on around $7,000 a year, and I've travelled and explored a lot during the winter months. I prefer to be out in nature, away from cities and towns. We truly don't need much to be happy. I live in an Astro Van, and lack for nothing. I love this life and intend to continue living this way until I'm ready to try something else.

Thank you for sharing Timber. Funny how a lot of us chase the wrong dream. My wife and I sold our 3500 square foot house last spring to move to a 700 square foot apartment and couldn't be happier. No mortgage, high utility bills, or up keep. Next is to take a position with the company that will allow us to travel while we covert a bus to live in. This all started after a trip to Key West and when I realized not everyone is stuck in Hillsboro Oregon being a slave to a high tech company. Best wishes to you and all who are chasing their TRUE dreams.

Like you said I knew what I did not want to do. I tried working in a factory and lasted 28 days. I got my second check and left at lunch and never came back. I admire your philosophy and that you've shared this personal view of your living choices. I do have one observation that I would like to share, which is that I really would like for people who go into mobile living like this to make a different choice for the toileting needs. The dry toilet as demonstrated creates a lot of plastic waste to wrap up something that will then take up room in a landfill for thousands or however many years it takes to break it down. Simple 5-gal bucket composting toilets actually work amazingly well and if one uses sawdust to layer in waste products, do not have odors. I have lived with one indoors, in a small cabin. By the time we would fill up the bucket, most of the material would already be composted to neutral-smelling (2 people). Then there are options for electrified, self-contained composting toilets that render the material completely inert for removal in the small amounts that are left. Anyway, I mean this feedback to only help others who are facing choices, as another set of options. Namaste.

Thank you. DryFlush is in the process of creating biodegradable and compostable liners for these toilets, and I'm looking forward to the day for the very reasons you shared. Lots of options out there. Namaste.

I Lived on a a sailboat for 12 yrs. Sometimes anchored out and sometimes @ an affordable dock. At that time , there were not these wonderful portable washing machines. It would have been great. But in the tropics I hand washed my clothes a little @ a time and then hung them on the life lines or on a hanger inside the boat. Raised my kids for about 3 years on the boat. This life style taught me so much of what u dont need in life. And I actually went sailing and also did work part time. So I feel blessed. Went fishing and had some wonderful fish dinners. Spent alot of time on the ocean. Now I live on land and still a nice warm shower and turning on a light switch , I still feel thankful. I miss those days. Thank u for this

With the cost of housing, you would be better off renting your home with the help of an agency so you always have a home base and you are getting income as well as paying off your mortgage. Just a thought, until you are sure the life is for you .

What you said toward the end of this video resonated with me. You said it perfectly brother. I'm on a path now to live more and not waste time working or should I say being at work doing pointless and unfulfilling work. I realized I'm most happy when I am home and able to do the things I want. We have one life, we have to live it on our terms, not how society thinks we should. I love the part where you said we won't know what's enough if we haven't defined what it is. Great video man!

True. I'm not suggesting anyone quit their job altogether, it's about each of us redefining "enough," and then working just enough to support the lifestyle we want. But it's only after we taste the deliciousness of living more that we can prioritize life over work; until then we are stuck in thinking we "have to" work full time, set an alarm every night, and curse it every morning.. but we don't "have to," we choose to. Let's celebrate our choices or make new ones.. :)

Willow, I could have written that myself. My job has turned me into a shell of a person, a miserable emotional wreck. I look normal and I smile and fake happiness at work but inside I am absolutely crumbling and being destroyed inside. I've saved up a bit of money and I'm about to put in my 2 week notice, this life is killing me. Not sure exactly what's going to happen next but I have to leave this job and make a change.

I agree with you 100% and I am longing for this lifestyle and have been for a few years. I can't seem to convince my husband that we don't have to wait for retirement. He is going to be watching this video this evening when he gets home from work. You have put this into perfect perspective. I love your beautiful home! You have such a calm, wonderful way about you. I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I watch these type of videos a lot, but nobody has conveyed their message quite like you. Bob Wells is wonderful to watch and learn from and is actually a hero in my eyes. I am adding you to my list of heroes. You have touched my heart with your message and you are a truly good man! Thank you for sharing your home and your message.

And find myself being drawn to the minimalist lifestyle. I have never been big on owning nice cars or the latest cell phone. They mean nothing to me. God bless you all. 😀

This is just how I want to live !! I hate this big house, I work 60 plus hours a week I don't even enjoy this house anymore !! My husband has went and all but drowned himself in debt, he has the credit cards, the new truck, gambling, he wastes so much money if I were by myself I could work 32 hours a week and live so happily. I need to take care of myself and this is my next move !! I am not the type of woman who likes to waste anything , I hate to spend money on things I am not going to use everyday or at least a times a week !! I only need a couch, a small kitchen, small bathroom, I could live so happy in 250 square feet. There is more to life than paying off houses we don't use, and using heat it cool air we don't get to enjoy !! I choose mental joy.

Timber, you have hit the nail on the head. I am 46 and have searched for this lifestyle after realizing the "other" way is a burnout hi-way to selfishness. I have been living in my RV in Canada on and off for the last five years and honestly, I find it surreal. Dealing with the realities of nature is easier (sometimes) than dealing with some peoples warped perception of the reality you should be part of. I thank you for your video and insights but, mostly to have the courage to speak what is on the RV dwellers mind. Cheers and happy days ahead!

I just happened to click on your video and you have a new subscriber!! I've been following the tiny house movement and van conversion but your layout of your RV makes getting an RV seem like a great idea! I've been doing a lot of soul searching because I find myself exhausted chasing the rat race. I want freedom to roam and travel rather than stuck working my life away only to travel once I reach retirement. My motto is "the world is too big to stay in one spot" I can't wait to get things paid off and find my home on wheels to take me wherever my heart desires.

I agree so much with what you said. I’m trying to get my husband on board with the idea of tiny living. Men feel they can’t be proud of something that’s not grandiose but I’m like vacationing 10 times a year instead of once every 2 years is my idea of grandiose. Forget the big house. I don’t want to clean it.

Jaida 007, I wish you the best. You can do it. I did. I hit the same plateau at age 25...in the end, I walked away from the "career" I had chosen, then decided to get out of the full time rat race and the ever-growing effort and expense of "keeping up with the Joneses." Back then, I heard a great deal about the "mistake" I was making. The most difficult part is getting started! Now, I am over 50, have not worked a full time job since I was 25, and yet I still live a debt free life with plenty of savings to carry me through even a lack of part time work.

Counting down the months, till I sell house, payoff all debts and move into a new 26' Class C with no payments. Selling my mid century style furniture was my biggest mental block, but I finally can see saying good buy to them. I'm looking forward to having lots a free time to travel, read, take up kayaking and pursue a late in life career as a portrait photographer. This is an awesome video. I went from being homeless for a number of years to having a job, eventually a mortgage and now a condo full of stuff. When I realized that the choices in my life had been mine, started making real changes and stopped blaming others (being a victim) for my situation is when life really started to turn around. Minimalist RV life is very appealing. After a decade at the same job (for which I am extremely grateful) and a condo full of stuff, I am rethinking the life I live. I have always felt more free with less.
