Very Well done. We ( married couple 70s) have visited over 90 countries - and more to come - with a similar set up including using the Farpoint 40 and Osprey Daylite Plus. 8 kg in main and 3 kg in daypack. Since we want to have capability of not being noticeable in a 5 star location we confine ourselves to having black tops and pants and our walking shoes are all black. Easy to maintain clean and a classic look that goes anywhere. We do not look completely out of place anywhere. We are also big fans of merino wool and use that wherever possible. We also carry a. complete medical kit knowing it is inevitable to get sick i.e. stuff we are famikiar with in cold meds; ibuprofen; immodium; tums etc.

Great video mate. I bought an Osprey Farpoint today from Paddy Pallin in Perth comparing to Porter 46 I wish the Farpoint had a front admin section and a nicer laptop sleeve with seperate sleeve for iPad. Cheers
@BeforeWeExpire
@BeforeWeExpire 8 месяцев назад
Cheers, Don! Yeah it seems they’ve gone pretty minimal on the organisation of the bag. I’ve found this to be it’s best and worst feature… only having the main compartment, laptop sleeve and tiny top zip pocket means there’s nowhere to conveniently stow small items you want to get to easily. However, this means the main compartment is really spacious and I can fit more stuff with my own packing cubes. Bit of a trade off but works for me since I always carry my waist pack across my chest for smaller items. Paddy Pallin in Perth is a great store and I’m there often! Safe travels

Good video! However, take into account that the Farpoint 40 is too big as a carry on in most, if not all, the European low cost airlines like Ryanair,Easyjet, etc. One of the problem s is that it has a rigid frame. Also notice that many airlines limit the weight of the pack and not only the size. Airlines are more strict in Europe than in the US, but ticket prices are much lower as well. Good look with the trip!
@BeforeWeExpire
@BeforeWeExpire 10 месяцев назад
I’ve actually been able to take the bag on 6 Ryanair flights with no issues as an overhead cabin bag. Fits in the overhead area with no issues :)
@TheZarkosan
@TheZarkosan 10 месяцев назад
@@BeforeWeExpireWow that's good, because I have never been able to take my old farpoint 40 into Ryanair even half full :-( I mean, for free. Maybe the new model is smaller or looks smaller. I will give it a try.

Beautiful! My only (totally not judgemental) thoughts are to get a wide mouth water bottle so you can clean it, and that you can downsize the number of clothing items in favour of wearing one outfit & storing a spare and then hitting the thrift shops when you need something new, also, a pair of minimalist sandals instead of flip flops to wear when your feet are aching at the end of the day but you want to go out to get food or stroll the town a bit (something with a back strap … waaaay more comfy, still compact/light). We use the Xero sandals. Have an amazing time! I backpacked Europe with my two little kids using a 40L pack (and they had little day packs). It made logistics so much easier not being weighed down by anything more.
@BeforeWeExpire
@BeforeWeExpire 11 месяцев назад
Agreed! I’ve been on the hunt for a better wide mouth water bottle and also have found I could have brought 1 or 2 less tops. I’m still loving my flip flops but definitely can see the benefits of something with more support. That’s awesome that you were able to get by with a 40L and kids! Gives me ideas for the future :)

Love this bag. I have an older version from a few years ago. Glad to see they moved the laptop pocket to the back. In the older version it's in the front and doesn't provide protection. Something I would add to the list is a pair of earplugs for sleeping.

Great video. We travel a lot and practice much of what you recommended. The only suggestion I have is to replace your flip flops with the toe piece to ones with just the top strap. I took ones like you have and my partner took the no toe type and when it was cool out he could wear socks in his and I couldn’t. Lesson learned. And no we didn’t wear socks and flip flops in public. 😊

I love the Farpoint so far and would definitely choose it again. From what I’ve seen about the Sojourn Porter 46 - it looks like a Farpoint 40 with more packing compartments, thicker sidewalls for protection and a less supportive backpack frame. So I guess it really depends on your preference. I love the simplicity of the Farpoint 40 and the harness is unreal but you might find the porter more suited to you :)

This bag fits so much I was wondering if it could fit multiclimate trips like Peru for the hot amazon and cold mountains, seems like it can :D I wish the ID pocket on the flap that goes over the shoulder and waist strap was closeable, would be a perfect place for tha airtag. How come your laptop compartment has 2 lockable zips and mine that just arrived today has only 1 zip..

he has both a daypack and a plastic (laundry) bag which he could also use for something else. Plus packing cubes which can be repurposed.

The bag is from Kathmandu and they are sold in the UK and Australia. Osprey does a similar collapsible bag and they are international :)

I would also bring waterproof gloves and hikingpants which are also waterresistance. And a Drybag and a Clothline to hang the washed clothes :)

Nice video but I think you might end up being suprised by handlugage. A lot of companies changed their rules, and it is allowed just 1 piece of luggage of around 7 or 8 kg. And needs to be put under your chair. Bigger items or small suitcases are charged

Yeah you are right they definitely have tightened up a lot! I’ll mostly be flying with Ryanair who have a good cabin bag allowance thankfully

A very nice video. I think you could still take less. For example, you don’t need 6 underpants when 3 would do. Get used to washing out your undies in the sink nightly.
@BeforeWeExpire

Yes, definitely could get away with doing that and hand washing more things in sinks

Bro, have you been ever traveled with this backpack and a daylite plus as personal item? Did it worked out at the AirPorts?

I haven’t used a daylite plus before but I have used the faropoint with a small 15l backpack with no issues at all at airports

You should always have some moisturizer with you. Taking care of your skin with some moisturizer is the least you can do.

Hey, was planning to use 40L farpoint for trip next year. However, the weight limit is kinda ass sometimes (7kg sometimes)... is ryanair strict with weights? Also, is it hard to limit with 7kg? Ill bring similar stuff like camera etc whoch weight quite a lot... and i do NOT want to check the bag
@BeforeWeExpire
@BeforeWeExpire 7 месяцев назад
We’ve taken 8 Ryanair flights and have never had our bags weighed and we’ve only seen a scale once at the gate. They don’t seem to look twice at the bag even when it’s full and weighing over 13kgs, probably because it’s a backpack. When the Farpoint 40 is completely full it will still easily fit in the Ryanair overhead storage so I’d say you’ll be just fine on Ryanair if you get the cabin baggage option on your flights. Also if you’re worried about weight, you can bring a collapsible backpack that is ‘personal item’ size, and put all your heavy stuff in that bag as they don’t have a weight limit for personal items. Hope this helps!

@@BeforeWeExpire You can't have been on Ryan Air or Jet 2, they just reduced there carry on size yet again. It's bonkers, there should be a universal rules for every airline.

Im curious, why didnt you go with the 55L?, it comes with a detachable day pack. You wouldnt need that foldable day pack(which is neat)
@BeforeWeExpire
@BeforeWeExpire 4 месяца назад
I liked having the foldable bag as most of the time I didn’t need to worry about weight limits and could easily fit all of my belongings into one bag. Having the 55l would have meant I would always be carrying two bags
