This hit home for me. I overeat because of stress. I lost my job in October and we are now also struggling with inflated food prices. It’s a simple concept but it took me a minute to get that I could save money by only eating the amount of food my body needs. Truly any thing can be consumed to excess, just as any part of your life can be minimalized.

I've been doing 16/8 Intermittent fasting. Having a tracker, a way to visually remind myself to eat or not eat has been super helpful. Just at this moment my husband is eating his dinner. I habitually like to join people when they're eating. It's social for me. But it's also boredom and habit (I've popped food in my mouth without thinking!) But with my tracker, I am able to stop myself and say "Oh! Not yet." I take walks, drink tea, and find things to do around the house to keep myself occupied.

When I'm stressed binge eating calms me, I have to find ways to stop this and find other ways to avoid it.

Start walking fast or exercise. It reduces or eliminates stress, anxiety, boredom, keeps you healthy, etc.

Excellent observations, Josh. It really is unfortunate that many of us choose to binge eat, and on empty calories most often; been there--done that. If only we attempted to binge eat a nutrient-dense salad---one consisting of organic leafy greens and all the colors of the 🌈 rainbow. This way we'd never really get away with this kind of dysfunctional behavior---as a salad will send a distinct message to the brain that we are indisputably f-u-l-l. Thanks for yet another inspirational life talk. The human race is better with THE MINIMALISTS on the planet. ✌️

I struggle with both fasting and bingeing. I was obese on and off for the past ten years from taking antipsychotic medication. I have also been underweight and emaciated. Adopting a vegan lifestyle prevents fasting and bingeing. I receive the nutrition I need without having to resort to not consuming to consuming too much. Yes, more fasting and more bingeing is indeed more. Perhaps seeking less will create balance in the cycle of fasting and bingeing.

For me, eating once a day (OMAD) + eating only protein and fat have helped me eat SO MUCH. I've lost about 38lbs, most of it fat pounds, in the past 8 months. I was originally 204lbs and now stand at 166lbs! My goal is 115lbs (I'm 23, female, and 5'1). I don't think about food as much because I actually feel satiated, especially since I stick to fibrous foods such as chia seeds and healthy non-starchy veggies such as okras (I seriously lose a pound of fat in about two days when I eat nothing but okra and drink water). This has also helped with portion control. I don't count calories.

I’m fascinated about the eating okra to lose weight. How do you prepare it?

Well said, Josh. I barely ate after my dad had passed away from cancer, and I almost put my life in danger.

Another thing is, the food we eat is crap. It's laden with sugar and carbs, both of which makes you want to eat more. Eat less sugar and more fat, and whole foods. Fat keeps you fuller longer. So buy full fat yogurt, and full fat milk, and full fat beef etc etc etc... when they make fat free products they replace fat with sugar. Just look at the sugar contents of fat free milk vs regular milk, you'd you very surprised....

I've always been overweight. Taking antidepressants has made it worse. I find if I eat carrots or apples or other foods that require lots of chewing it seems to help. Tina, Al's wife

Chaos creates things, you don't control chaos, you surrender to it and then deal and manage it from inside the chaos, turning it more into a chaotic stream that you know and can live with it.

I once was anorexic, as a kid,, because of some things thst happened to me and I kept it a secret. My dad was abusive too, so what I ate was the one thing I could control, so I did. It had nothing to do with my weight or body image.

The simple solution is to stop 🛑 buying unnecessary snacks. Out of sight is definitely out of mind! :)

If you're neurodivergent overeating could be for sensory stimulation, not trying to cover up emotions. Knowing that about yourself can help you try to choose a different stim.

Was thinking this and then I found your comment. I overeat in the evening when the stimulant medication has worn off and I’m looking for a dopamine hit.

Was just thinking about this. The actual chewing as well as crunch is a big stim for me. Better go invest in some chewing gum!

I live the keto lifestyle, do 16/8 intermittent fasting, eat until I'm full and stop and don't binge eat because I have no need to graze all day on empty carbs, continually feeling the need to eat when my blood sugar crashes in a couple of hours. So I don't binge eat at all and feel no need to do it.

This is a very toxic reponse. Joshua stacks guild on top of all the feelings associated with binge eating like stress and shame… You overcome binge eating by a combination of therapy, learning about healty food, exercise and being gracefull to yourself…
