I used to as well. I quit removing them when I started trapping moving water because I needed to wire them off.

Kevin Wimmer because when I used dowels as stakes the chain would hang into the trap and it was one more thing to get tangled in the pile.plus I use them on my 11/2 coils to slide on my 8 ft stakes
