Love this motor- perfect for our 12' on our lakes here in Maine ! She'll get you moving with amazing speed, and without the noise of a gas motor too. Perfect for fishing !
Hi, it would work well but it also depends on the water current and winds. If it's a small lake or slow moving river, it will work well. However if it's a windy day or strong current, I would definitely choose something stronger...
The one in this video is an 8ft boat weighs about 60 kg. But I also use it on my 14 ft heavy fiber glass row boat and 16 ft sailboat which weigh 300 kg.
No, this is the basic older version. I think the new ones show them. You can carry a voltmeter and accurately tell how much charge left. 11.8 volt is empty, 12.00 volt is 25% left, 12.20 volt is half left, 12.40 volt is 75% left and 12.80 volt and above is fully charged.
Couldn't find the AH rating for my battery. I was using the battery from my car just because the car went to scrap and the battery was still good. Otherwise if I was to buy a new one, it would be a deep cycle. If you use a regular car battery, make sure never to go beyond 50% to be able to use it for a long time. I ran my for about 2 hours and then charge it. A deep cycle would run easily 6 hours with a 30 lb motor.
Yes, I have a 16ft fiberglass and 8ft fiberglass and it works very well on the smaller one as it's lighter. Keep in mind that the limiting conditions are not the boat but the current and the wind, if you hit a storm, it might not be sufficient...
It comes with cables which has a regular connector (washer-like end) you can then hook it up to your battery and tighten with wing nuts. I modified it by adding booster cable jaws or clams for easy clamp on clamp off! It is also highly recommended to have a fuse on your cable to prevent fire!
@@PrestigeLoft On the third gear I run it 2 hours and then charge it, I think I use about 40 percent of the battery. This is a regular car battery off my old car. I imagine if you have a new deep cycle, you can run it 8 hours and still have charge left.
@@photographiedynamic so if i build my own jon boat from scratch i will need to get it registered and obtain a boating license? Even if the motor is 1 hp?
I would say no but better check local regulation. My row boats are not registered. My sail boat is. I cannot cross the boarder to USA, nor locks with my row boat but I can with the sail boat... However, personally you are required to have a boating licence when operating a motor boat. Easy course, pass once, good forever.
Nothing special, my old cars battery. I think it was a mopar. Ideally you want a deep cycle battery. But since I only do short 60-90 minutes trips, its plenty for me. Remember, never use more than 60% of the energy of the battery.
Buy a new battery, looks like yours is at its end of life. Buy a deep cycle battery, nothing too big and use it regularly, even during winter run a 12v appliance on it and charge it. It will last 5 to 8 years.
If you have a multi-meter lying around, read the voltage of the battery before, during and when it dies. You will then know for sure the problem (12.6v is fully charged, 12.06 is 50% left and below 11.3v it's empty). However below 11.9v it will stop running or run very slowly.
Motor getting burned out? If it’s not going very fast take off the prop and look at the spindle. Usually a lot of weeds or other peoples fishing line can get stuck in there which might be the cause for your motor dying out and not going very fast.
