This is a quick tutorial to assist you with cleaning and lubricating your Minn Kota Talons. Simply cleaning with Dawn and lubricating with Pledge and improve the performance of your Talons.
Just wanted to say this video was a tremendous help! Like you, I don’t have a tilt bracket. This video gave me the confidence to do it on my own. My one 12’ Talon wouldn’t deploy all the way. Cleaned them like you said with Pledge and Dawn. My one dysfunctional Talon now extends all the way and is as good as new! Thank you, sir!
Great information. Very helpful. I just bought a pre-owned Nitro with Talons on it and had never used Talons before. So now I know how to do what you just did. I had no instructions on how Talons work or the features of the remote. This video was a giant help for me. Thank you very much.

Thanks. Going to be cleaning mine this week and need to replace one of the spikes. They have worked great for me over the years but this year I'll do the complete cleaning and lubricating.
I was told to just be in deep water, go forward and reverse with outboard, and cleans them up right away before it dries. Never had an issue, i see everyone is having issues with the Talon not coming back up, i had it happen a few times when i want to raise it, and it beeps, usually move trolling motor a bit and every time it comes back up, but to the ones who don't, what do you do? No tilt brackets on my Talon.
Thanks for the tip. When I have issues with my Talons deploying I will usually deploy them using the buttons on the Talons themselves or try pairing them again. Hope that helps. Thanks for supporting the channel.
Great maintenance tip which I’m sure lots of people overlook. I’m going to try that Pledge trick. How often do you use them for fishing? My buddy has them and the only time he uses them is beaching his boat.
Thanks. Glad it was useful. I definitely use them instead of tying off to docks to avoid damaging my gel coat. I use them when skipping dock, fishing grass edges and other shallow water situations where I find fish concentrated on structure/cover.
@@c219troll wow, I'm shooting for 10 to 12 per day. Our club doesn't fish it very often so I don't expect to see a 15lb bag unless someone stumbles across one of those 8+ pounders. 😎
Nice video. My remotes don’t work anymore on my Talons. I have 4 and none work. Have to use my Helix or phone. I have replaced the batteries. Any ideas?
Thanks for supporting the channel. I recently had that issue. Luckily it is still under warranty. I took it in for service and I believe they replaced the motherboard on the one that wouldn't deploy.

Its crazy you got 5k in talons and you use common house hold goods to conduct maintenance, obviously it works but is there a reason why you went to pledge instead of a marine grade lubricant with some type of wax to keep them slick? Hell now a days they ceramic coat everything a do it yourself kit would allow the coating to keep the mud and debris from sticking as much. Talons are a finicky bitch but you can't beat 15 ft of holding power, pair with riptide ulterra and thats a deadly combo.
I've used wd40 before but I saw a video where someone stated they talked to support at Minn kota and they suggested using pledge to prevent oily residue what could cause dirt to stick to it. lol, yep, I like my Talons.
