Just bought the Terrova over the powerdrive, really glad I did. The White one is actually the same motor with just some extra seals. It's the same with all Minn kota motors, the Terrova as well.
Just ordered one. 24, volt, 54 inch. I have the powerdrive. It's really hard to release. Almost bought the ulterra. They seem to have alot o issues with the auto stow and deploy. Can't wait to install it and use the spot lock anchoring feature. I fish for striped bass in areas where anchoring is dangerous and almost impossible. I also troll alot and this is going to give me the ability to set a course and do whatever i need to while the boat runs itself. Can't wait to get it.
I made the mistake of buying the powerdrive too. Hated how hard it was to deploy and stow. Luckily for me, it crapped out inside two weeks. Basspro took it back and fully refunded me. For an extra $200 or so I bought the terrova 12v 55lb. I’m much happier with it.
Good video. I’m in the same position deciding which one to buy for my small 14’ skiff. Any noticeable weight difference? I can’t find anything on it. You can also get the shaft cut down by an authorized dealer and it won’t void the warranty or it looks easy to do yourself.
Just got a second power drive because I had it on the last boat and it’s better for boats with decks , I just kick the shit out of that locking brace thing and it goes right in the water everytime
I think that is the same boat as mine. Thank you for the ideas, I like how you ran your wires. I always thought that you had to put the motor as close to the point of the bow to make it track straight. how does it perform? how many batteries do you have and what thrust and length??
Had you ran that unit yet? How long does that 12 volt last? Thinking on the 24 volt to get more run time. We run planners for trolling for catfish and don’t really need to have wide open. Just needing to run under 1 mph. Thanks for any input and great gideo
This is a 12 volt model 55lb thrust. Normally they are right at 1500.00. I found seller on ebay 1380.00. www.ebay.com/itm/372643274045 If you need a 24 volt message him. I was alittle hesitant about buying from ebay . But it showed up in 2 days and seller was straight shooter
Were you able to use some simple brazing rods and just heat them up to weld that mount on your boat or did you actually use a welder? I have a small bow at the front of my boat so trying to figure out if I might not have enough room.
I LOVE my power drive! Mine isnt hard to release at all, maybe you just had one that made it out of the factory that wasnt built properly. Mine takes very little effort. To each his own. I'm not really a bass fisherman, I mainly fish crappie, walleye, catfish, perch, bluegill . I can record my paths and it will move me back and forth along that and adjusts speed according to wind/current. I can put in spots I have programmed and it will take me to that spot and follow my previous paths taken. Wether im spider rigging crappie, slow trolling muskie or walleye, or bottom dragging/drifting for big cats, you just cant beat it IMO. I love all the options, esp the anchor setting. It is phenomenal if your fishing small rivers with decent current, it holds up great. But I do agree with you on the sound, it's not the quietest I've had, but it's not terrible.
I am considering purchasing a boat with a powerdrive v2, 50 lbs thrust and iPilot. Said boat is 800 lbs. I plan on fishing water which has 20 mph wind at times. Do you see the powerdrive being able to hold me on spots/move me around or should I go fro soemthign stronger?
Hey Roscoe, I noticed in your comments that you're able to record tracks or paths from previous trips. What fish finder are you using to do this? I have a Lowrance hook 4, but I'd love to record some of my paths with if it's not to expensive to do. My Terrova 55 should arrive is a few days.
How is it performing after 3BR so or so after this video. I am in the market for one and any insights you have on using it for few years. Also, is this the GPS model? Thanks for the video.
I think is was 8612. Nice unit with thru hull transducer. Great with fuel and nice units perfect match for this boat. Just wish parker would make a deeper dead rise. They hit hard if your running far offshore. Guy's in the back like the ride. Noone will rid in front with you
Without stowing the motor... can you lift the head of the motor straight up if you need to raise the motor/prop to clear weeds, etc? or does it have to tilt to raise the shaft?
it's not necessary to get the mounting plate right? I have a power drive on my bass boat and I just mounted it straight trough the aluminum , I have no need to remove it
Although 3 years old, this video is right on point! The Terrova is light years ahead of the Powerdrive. I had a Terrova on another boat, Bought a Powerdrive for my new boat. Like he did, I mounted it, deployed it once, and said NOPE! This is a POS! Took it back and exchanged for a Terrova. A Powerdrive is not for Bass fisherman that deploy it multiple times during the day. It is horrible!
