Minneapolis Crisis :: Why is the National Guard shooting at cars without warning?

This whole week I’ve been screaming at the RU-vid, “WHERE IS THE FREE HUGS GUY?!”

I can appreciate what you're usually doing out here, trying to keep the peace in these cities. But these are different times, my man. The Guard is there because buildings are being burned down, people are being grievously injured. They're there to try to bring order to the streets again. At this point in the game, peacefully protesting AFTER curfew is seen as an act of aggression. Hopefully none of us agree with the damage that is being caused within our communities by these riots, so let's do the right thing and keep our peaceful protests outside curfew hours. Nobody is gonna give a damn about us getting shot after curfew. They're just gonna say, and probably rightfully so, that we knew it was after curfew and knew what we were getting ourselves into. It's a high risk act with no reward. We wouldn't sway any minds trying to protest after hours because everybody who needs to hear the good word is already back at the house. Stay safe.

I get you’re upset but national guard have orders to follow. They’ve warned many many times you must be inside by a certain time, doesn’t matter if you’re heading home, you should have already been inside at that point. They don’t care about people’s feeling. They’re only there to bring back control and order. Be safe.

Sorry but there was a curfew. You NEED TO honor the curfew. If people honored the curfew this wouldn't happen. I have experienced National Guard being sent out to enforce curfew due to a handful of hurricanes. They really haven't used force with anyone. The people they did use force with was up to no good. If you follow the rules National Guard people are awesome. National Guard protected my college campus for 3 months after hurricane Wilma hit our campus. It took the campus 3 months to get their lighting fixed. The campus borrowed portable stadium lighting from the Miami Dolphins to light up the parking lots. The National Guard was at all entrances making sure no one got on campus that didn't belong there. *Edit I should say states didnt declare Martial Law. Majority of citizens willingly abided the curfew so they didnt need Martial Law.

When the governor calls out the national guard the troops are given orders ... it doesn’t matter if you don’t know the orders. They are going to follow those orders until other orders are given. You want to protest and burn people’s businesses and loot... this is what you get. After curfew everyone out on the street is breaking the law and is subject to getting shot or detained by the national guard. The NG troops are not supposed to have a civil conversation with people breaking the curfew, the NG troops are there to make you follow the curfew. It’s too late now. No cops = NG troops and you will get hurt if you try to get close to them. Sorry but this is the start of martial law and we will lose so many/all rights and it will be the fault of those that choose to riot, loot, and burn and tear down statues

Let's not vilify the National Guard. The only reason why they are out there is because of the rioters. When it gets to the point of the National Guard having to be out there then things have already progressed beyond reasonable circumstances. Stay off the road and stay inside.

Please excuse a white guy from the northeast for trying to play the evil centrist but is it possible that the van got the flashbang thrown at them for getting within throwing distance of a police barricade with a wall of flashing blue lights? Especially after a van literally pulled up to an officer opened it's side door and executed the officer. And your going to have a hard time convincing me that a taxi driver in a city doesn't have a smartphone and that there are people so oblivious that they are unaware of what's happening. You don't need to be watching the news to know what's going on especially if you're a taxi driver that interacts with the community. And for a bit of journalistic advice there's a massive difference between a warning flashbang and a rubber bullet intentionally aimed at someone. I beg people to realize that the media is a big reason for the division in this country. They are intentionally playing us against each other for ratings and therefore dollars. I'm with you on the black lives matter and police reform movements but I can't get behind you when riots, violence and destruction of private property are being justified as legitimate protest. I can assure you that the first amendment does not protect these actions. And on a side note; if Antifa is in your midst you would be smart to divorce yourself from them as fast as possible. These people (that are classified as terrorist organizations in several countries) are not going to help your cause. They are using you as pawns for their own political gains.

The thing is there is a more logical reason why they are doing this. This is the national guard they are the military, they operate on separate and different rules, if they set up no travel zones they will use force to abide by that. I know that sort of behavior is cruel. I’m guessing that Somali couple were confused as to what was occurring or maybe why they were even there, could also possibly be a language barrier. Your video didn’t tell much we didn’t get to see up close. If the National guard tells you to leave, you should probably leave. Don’t I get me wrong I’m not saying the National guards behavior is justified, I don’t believe that was decent of them, that couple was not a threat in any way.

Here is my question for ya then, I came here because I saw the hugging of the police video, but now I come here and see this. Kind of a mixed message you are sending don't ya think? Have you even tried to discuss about it with the national guard. Might sound dumb but worth a try don't ya think? However, like others said already in the comments when the Guard is called in that's when you know it's bad. But just like how you said with the police, the Guard are human beings too right? So why the differentiation? The Guard is under state or federal jurisdiction, so they have a lot more pressure on them to carry out the orders given not to mention even more responsibility. But again, just like the police they are human beings underneath the uniforms too.
