Dont tell anyone but this happened in Calgary , the cause was the government wasn't monitoring the reservoirs properly and than they had to release too much water. Reservoirs need to be emptied well in advance of a large rain fall to prevent flooding
ALL dams and bridges are dangerous. They haven't been maintained. You take a risk every time you cross over! If you live below a dam, you should get the hell out of there.
Many people are not aware of but there is a huge backlog of dams in the US. FEMA says there is about 27000 "at risk" dams across the US. The floodgates will literally open unless the government does something about it.
We have to do something about Global Warming too, that will take time but it can be bad enough when dams are old. It gets worse when what they face are no longer what expectations of the time were.
This sucks. This happened to my parents and grandparent's lake houses back in 2020. The area still hasn't recovered. In addition to how much they lost, if they ever want their lake back they will probably be taxed for the repair. It will take decades to get back what was lost.
I lost my house 4 years ago in a hurricane, still homeless. Hopefully and God willing that's finally changing in September. Recovering from disaster sucks.
@colepattison6809 my name and the hat in my picture shoulda gave that away😅 In all seriousness tho, I'm a gen x army veteran, I've survived worse for longer. Plus I'm very adaptable in any situation from lifelong practice.
This isn't the usual weather. And it will become less and less the usual weather as the coming years go by. Preparation is a good idea. However a question is to prepare for what exactly. Old trends and expectations aren't holding true anymore.
Thats because our money goes to the corrupt zelinsky of Ukraine and to that faraway state overseas that controls our congress and tells our president what to do ?

Yeah, Global Warming brings both droughts and floods. It would be nice if there were a calmer middle between the 2 but that is the opposite of what it does.
Try actually giving money to relief efforts, that is real, gods are not. If the gods were real, they would have intentionally caused said disaster, and absolutely do not need the prayers. Fortunately all the 100,000 + gods you refer to are completely imaginary. Try to pray to people like the Red Cross, and emergency services trying to help these people - they are real.
@@pplr1 global warming? The earth is warming up and will continue to get hotter but not by man's doing. Isn't that what global warming is...done by man's hands somehow?
I'm wondering where the water from that dam will go? will it head south towards Spirit Lake/Okaboji? Down towards Spencer? I don't think we can take much more... I feel for the ones downstream. Be aware and safe!!
Last Thursday Night/Friday morning the sky just opened like a faucet! We were getting 5 inches an hour!! I have never seen anything like it for so long!!!
@@lisastevens682 Yes, Global Warming brings heavier rains than usual. This is-sadly-somewhat expected and even more events like this are likely to come in the next decade or 2..
We actually are. Minnesota has been rebuilding all its roads and bridges since the 35W Bridge collapse in 2007. I’d like to think dams are somewhere on that list, but I don’t know for sure.
Also lakes are not big flood threats (aside from a dam burst)...you need flood insurance for rivers. Even a dam burst isn't flooding the homes near the lake...it's flooding things down stream.
I am vary worried about kitty sd guy 1234 , I haven't seen him in hours i hope the water hasn't drown him. He has been eating too much im afraid he will sink!
basic Florida building codes 1 - your garage floor must be higher than the crown of the road 2 - the main floor of the home must be +4" higher than the garage 3 - home must be the high point of the property and all grades must slope to the property line . there's simply no excuse for flood damage to a major structure if the road is still uncovered.
Instead, don't build in a flood plain. If you must, the finished floors are best to be at least 24" above the 1000 year flood plain. I live somewhere with actual terrain and you just can't build all houses above the road without putting them on stilts. If the house is sited on a hillside (which is arguably most in a hilly area), then it must sit 24-48" above the highpoint of the adjacent grade, with positive drainage to all sides, and swales/ pipes, walls to divert 'upstream' runoff away from structure.
Spencer isn't a flood plain. And Florida vs Iowa is totally different. For one soil. Iowa and Minnesota have rich soil. That's why crops are grown there. The water table is way different than Florida.
@@matthewtuel2747 that's fine. now show me ANY picture from this news story from the relevant area in Minnesnowta in which such terrain is relevant to what i'm talking about.
@odnamsrazor2364 have you ever been there? Because I used to live there. Have you ever heard of flash flooding? You don't make any sense. Of course some roads will be dry in places. Because they aren't in a low spot. Use some common sense. Higher ground isn't going to flood like lower ground.
I have family in the area and they are vacationing and probably not looking at news while on vacation. Why can't the news provide what towns and what damn is in breach so we know what part of Minnesota this is at?
does it ever occur to you that God/Jesus is the REASON for this? God is supposed to be everywhere, and all good. so why does an all powerful perfectly good being allow bad things to happen to good people? funny enough, god answers prayers at the same rate as Joe Pesci answers prayers, about 50% of the time. its almost as if god doesn't do anything, and its PEOPLE who do things, no matter what god would want. just like Joe Pesci.
@@alericjohansen6775 When I pray, and I get what I want, the Lord answers prayers. When I pray, and I don't get what I want, it's all part of God's plan. I can't lose! Praise Jesus!🙏🙏
@@runswithfish3830 so its either: 1) pray and get what you want or 2) pray and don't get what you want, but that's okay, its part of his plan that basically should be summed up as 1)pray, no matter the outcome, god did it That's a really dumb way to think. you presupposed the result to be god, rather than look at the evidence and see what ACTUALLY happened and why.
@@runswithfish3830i imagine your whyte jesus takes care of his own huh? And the Creator of this universe is gonna take care of His. The sheep and the goats...the wheat and the tares are being divided as we speak
If they live near a river, it's needed. Crazy expensive so they gambled that there wouldn't be a flood. They lost this year...but they won the previous hundred years.
There are exclusions like for floods and riots and war. They tend not to cover widespread disasters because they will be out of business if everyone makes a claim at once...if they go out of business then NOBODY has insurance. If your house burns down they will cover it...not so much if EVERYONE'S house burns down.
About 10 miles sw of Mankato. My good friend lives in Fairmont and the nearly two weeks of heavy rain have already flooded his yard completely and got into his basement. Now these Blue Earth River waters may actually reach his town...
Psalms 112:1-2 (NIV) 1 “I lift my eyes up to the mountains - where does my help come from?” 2 “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven & earth” I hope this encourages anyone going through this flood, but also anyone who is having a hard time. 💛 the Lord is never too far, seek him.
@@cryptidsntunes no he cant, but he says he can. Either way, if a cat gets stuck in a tree: FJB!! Of course I meant by deliberate dereliction of maintenance, likely a “funding” issue (like housing Ay-rahbs). Until it becomes a disaster the people cry out to their government to control. So you see any way you dissect it, of course it’s FJBs fault. FJB!!
"It's in Ukraine." Somebody is lying hard for his 5 rubles today. All aid to Ukraine is less than 200B. The last military budget (a repeat thing) was over 800B. Trump's Tax cut was well over 2T. Helping Ukraine is comparatively cheap and well worth it.
@@wyomingadventures Is this account #2 of someone really trying to get his 5 rubles today? Maybe not or maybe. Either way there is a bit of irony coming from calling someone "clueless" for pointing out the correct math.
And for sure NOTHING was proposed, passed, or completed under your dear leader's reign. Funds were given to the states. It will take more then one bill to fix the infostructure in this country, but at lest the Dems got something started.
Wrong. Federal government needs to fix the roads and infrastructures. Every state gets Federal help for that. And Biden hasn't do crap but give our money to other countries.
I call bs. 1st Biden is spending on infrastructure. 2nd all the US help to Ukraine totals less than 200B, meanwhile Trump blew well over 2T on his tax cut.
