Pine City firefighters, along with CentraCare EMS and Pine County sheriff deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident on Highway 61 near Northridge Dr NW on Tuesday afternoon. Three people were transported by helicopter to a trauma center to be treated for their injuries. A dog was also found in the vehicle and appeared to be uninjured. The older style van appeared to have left the roadway and entered the right ditch, before striking a berm, sending the vehicle airborne across the driveway. The vehicle came to rest against trees on the opposite side of the driveway. It is unknown what caused the driver to enter the ditch. The extent of injuries was unclear as of Tuesday evening. More information is expected to be released from the Pine County Sheriff's Department.

M’fuckers who fly these choppers are straight up bosses fo real. They need to jump to service instantly at any time, fly to and land at many random wilderness locations, day night rain and snow, all while knowing every second counts and someone’s life depends on them. True heroes that we never see honored!

What should have been obviously mentioned was that somebody tried whipping through the scene around the road blocks resulting in one of the helicopters needing to abort their attempt at landing.

Surprisingly many medical helicopters can only carry people up to 250lbs... If you're more than that they might not be able to provide service.

It depends on the helicopter, 250 lbs is for the smaller helos. Many of the modern ones can carry patients up to 650 lbs

Is helimed inthis area for transport only, I ask as I'm from England and our helimed is used as a first responder with either two critical care paramedic or a critical care paramedic and a trauma doctor onboard
@MidwestCrime
@MidwestCrime 3 года назад
Yeah, helicopters here can only land after first responders have arrived to secure the landing zone.
@stevenbowers4164
@stevenbowers4164 3 года назад
@@MidwestCrime doesn't work that way in England, paramedics can request helimed if patients require transport or injuries/illness requires higher skilled paramedics or a trauma doctor but they can are frequently are dispatched at the time of the initial call and can be first on scene especially in more rural areas
@MidwestCrime
@MidwestCrime 3 года назад
@@stevenbowers4164 That's interesting! I guess sometimes helicopters are ordered at the time of dispatch for certain calls. They call it "auto-launch" and they use it on motorcycle accidents, head-on crashes, stuff like that, but they will not land without first responders on scene. They will stay in the air until it is safe to land.

I was a paramedic for 30 years and an ED/Trauma nurse at a Level I Trauma Center in Pennsylvania...it depends on which state you are in, as the practice of medicine and nursing are governed at the state level. EMTs and Paramedic practice is governed under the State's Medical Practice Act, which is also what regulates Physicians and Physician Assistants...Nurses have a separate act due to the age of the profession. Anyway, there are some states where HEMS are the first responders...due to low population and distance from a Trauma Center. Major Hospitals in the U.S. are almost always Trauma Centers as well as Large University Hospitals with attached medical schools. These are typically where HEMS programs are headquartered, even if they have remote facilities at smaller hospitals owned by the larger hospital. These and some private medical helicopters, will respond to 911 calls just like a ground ambulance would in remote areas or in the middle of nowhere that can't support an independent ambulance company. 🤷‍♂️ The crew on a helicopter is usually a flight nurse and a flight paramedic...they can do much more than a ground ambulance can do. The flight nurse usually has decades of ICU experience and and the paramedic has decades of ground EMS experience. Physicians do occasionally fly, but it's quite rare. I've encountered 1 flight physician in 30 years.

@@MidwestCrime I grew up in that county, never saw three choppers come in for one accident, I remember times before the choppers coming in, my brother was lucky, they flew him to Duluth, they had the MAST on him and no pulse when they landed, and he made it out alive.
