I agree. Thor is absolutely rising as a star and I think purple daily should absolutely continue with him if y'all can have the proper meeting of the minds. Keep in mind purple daily is gonna be the place to be for QBOTF and Vikings related stuff. Love the show you guys put together.
I understand what you’re saying, but a player on the defensive line comparable to Jefferson as a WR would demand that same amount of money. Paying that kind of money to one of the top 3 at their position is not a bad thing if they are a Tackle, D-Line, WR or QB.
@@jeffchaska9955 The fact he didn't sign before last season when all reports were that a deal was done and him not signing yet this year. Also the amount of the contracts that have been signed this off season with all the guaranteed money added to the fact that the Wilfs have never given more than 2 years of guaranteed money to anyone but a QB. I'm not saying he won't sign, but I can see the beginnings of a potential problem.
If/when the Vikings shrewdly leak the offer jj turned down, then fans who idolize this guy may have a tough defense of their position. Tag-and-trade before the inevitable fake training camp injury or potential real injury. Can you imagine signing a WR to 37M/year then having him miss half the season again with another non-contact injury? There's huge risk to paying that kind of money to anybody who touches the ball only 5 to 12 times a game. Build a team, not a pedestal.
If he doesn't want a realistic team friendly contract then trade his ass. He's just a wide receiver they aren't that important. Dude almost missed all of last year pretty much. Might as well have. Plus there's games where he just disappears. He's my favorite prayer and a class act so I hate to say it but the teams foundation is more important than his income. I don't care if he's the best non QB that position isn't worth 25% of the salary cap....
Finally some gets it. WR's just don't move the needle where it matters. 1-8 with JJ last year, 5-2 without him, 30-30 overall in 4 years with 1 playoff appearance. You wouldn't pay a QB $35m/y after that kind of production, but we want to pay a WR? You don't need the best WR to win in this league, you just need 2-3 good ones on affordable deals. The best WR isn't going to help us overcome how weak we are in the trenches ... unless you trade him.
Dwight McGlothern PFF #1 cornerback in the SEC will beat out Evans and Booth, will make the roster and challenge Blackmon for playing time. The guy is the real deal.
Not that’s a bold prediction! Booth and evans have been floating dumpster fires and Blackmon isn’t much better. If he is all that and a bag of donuts why wasn’t he drafted? You watched him play why did he slide?
I don't understand the "trade JJ" crowd at all. The whole point of the draft/development process is to get as many awesome players as possible. You have the best WR in the league, you don't trade him away
Since a lot of you guys have NEVER stepped on a football field in full pads, let me explain something to you. Jefferson is not only a GREAT player, but his talent and WORK ETHIC is inspirational and infectious in a lockeroom setting. Having your best player with that type of attitude is what makes championship teams. Watch the sideline audio from the Buffalo game and notice how his catches pumped up the sideline with the belief that they were gonna win no matter the obstacles. His value to the Vikings at this point in their ascent towards a super bowl, is immeasurable.
You guys keep saying it, and it's incorrect. It's not "highest non-paid quarterback", it's "highest paid non-quarterback." non-paid means "works for free". That's definitely not what's happening here.
These udfas hitting is just like getting free draft picks. Ivan pace is at least a third round value maybe higher. Being a good place to go and a good vibe helps w these udfas
8 years ago, people would have said no quarterback was worth 100 million guaranteed and an average quarterback with Daniel Jones type talent wasn't worth 40 million a year. Things change, times change.
@@yolo25000a receiver cannot get you to a SB but a QB can. Many SB's have been won with average receivers. Not many with average QB's. Huge difference.
The fact that Jefferson started texting with JJ essentially right after he was drafted tells us everything. This is Jefferson’s team now he is THE leader on the offense and is a pillar of this team Kwesi will get the extension done
Do people not realize that the WR market goes up regardless? We can’t just expect all the players to play on rookie contracts and win a Super Bowl. If you have a future HOF player on your team, you pay him what he’s worth. We are paying our QB rookie money right now.. so now is the perfect time to pay a HOF WR big money for 4 years.
Jefferson would be the reason why Vikings win Super Bowl not by paying him but trading him. You are crazy to pay one guy this kind of money. I would rather have any top wide receivers in this last draft on a rookie contract then pay Jefferson. Get five picks and let him go! You have lineman to pay and other free agents.
@@laserchiefwankoo204 You don't need the best WR to win in this league. Can you remember the last time any WR's was the reason a team went on a run? It's just not a position that moves the needle where it matters. Unlike most other positions, you don't need the best WR, you just need 2 or 3 good WR's. You win in the trenches, which is where the Vikings are weakest. Trade JJ and use the draft capital and cap savings to beef up the IOL and IDL. That would help McCarthy more than making him feel like he has to force the ball to the $35m WR 10 times a game.
We gotta trust the process, fellas. If Kwesi can sign a deal with JJ, he will. If he instead gets a player and draft haul for him, is that a bad thing ? Our cupboard's a little bare for the draft next year, we could make it something special for the next two years, moving him. Though JJ is special, was his WAR last year really that good ? Maybe he performs better this year with Darnold, and eventually JM, throwing to him. Take an edible, and let the process be what it will.
Justin Jefferson: If they are close on the numbers, but just have to iron out the details, I believe JJ signs before he lifts a finger. In other words, he signs before he is exposed to injury. Even a small injury, at this time, could derail the biggest contract for a WR ever.
JJ's not going anywhere else. Everyone just take a deep breath. Captain Check Down is gone, so they have the $ to pay JJ. You don't trade the best WR in the league after you just drafted your first legit franchise QB in team history. 😂
Vikings did make an offer, Jefferson said no thanks. Vikings lowballed him? They all of sudden realize the folly of the offer?..and give him what he wants? Idk..kinda seems like the writing is on the wall. Never know, Mensah does seem to do whatever strikes him in the moment.
@@903i9 no. The Vikings made an offer. Then Jefferson and his agent turned it down because they knew the cap was going to go up a ton and the other receivers would be getting new deals that he will beat when he gets his new deal so he will make way more money. He’s not going anywhere. Simple
Phil needs to understand the scaling related to DEFCON. Judd said "5" which is the LEAST severe condition. Thor stated "4" which is slightly higher. Phil stated he was actually a bit "lower at 3.5" which is actually a HIGHER defense condition. Peace.
Franchise Tag Justin Jefferson! Why NOT!? And why wouldn't Justin Jefferson want to be franchised?! Hell Franchise him twice!!! He's already willing to bet on himself so why not just take a double franchise tag?! Look at it this way he played the last 4 seasons with the second highest payed player in NFL history and that guy was tagged twice! You could argue that Kirk wasn't even good enough to be the 2nd highest payed player ever and that his timing of contract made him rich beyond his capability and that timing was due to being franchise tagged twice. JJ could get tagged in 25' & 26" and still sign a monster deal in 27' and he'll only be 27 years old he could still likely get a second huge contract!
Haha right? That's why I didn't want a rookie QB sitting behind him a year or 2. The only thing he would've learned from Kirk is how to win a contract negotiation.
Im so excited about Dwight mcglothern ,jackson ,byron murphy, aj green III, griffin, blackman, akayleb evans this corner back group has so much potential it would be so great if it all works out .oh hell Im vary pumped about our defense period young , fast, versatile. I just wish we could keep them all.
It's a no brainer - every team goes into every draft trying to find a Mahomes, a Jettas, an Aaron Donald, a Micah Parsons - an elite game changing star. When you find them, you build your team around them. End of story. CD Lamb hasn't signed. Chase hasn't signed. Dak hasn't signed. It's normal.
I don't think we should pay him some outrageous amount just to keep him...one bad hit and we don't have him in the game anyway. People need to get real
I love what the Rams do. Never knew that. Evaluations should be based on if the kid play , and do they love football. Can't teach heart. So many of the greatest players in nfl history have been underdogs , overlooked guys with something to prove.
I do get the trade value for JJ, but at some point you've got to remember it's not just X's and O's and $$$ signs. It's a source of pride having #18 on your team. It's exciting with him on the team. The Chiefs could afford to deal Hill bc they already had a bigger star in Mahomes. We don't. I liken it to a house you love in a fantasic neighborhood. Sure, you could sell it for top dollar, but is it worth it to live in a lesser home and lesser neighborhood just to afford other things? Another way to look at it is to look at the past 20 Vikings 1st rounders. Pick any 3 at random. Odds are 1 was a bust, 1 was just okay, and 1 was great. But JJ is exceptional. How many of those 3 picks you selected at random were exceptional, and how many made you brag about them? None, exactly. I'd rather watch JJ make circus catches and do the griddy than three boring 1st rounders we'd get for him, at most.
Jeffersons agent is the same agent for Joe Borrow (highest paid qb) and Nick Bosa (highest paid non qb) both extensions got done right before the start of the season. Itll get done in August. SKOL!
After the draft Sean Payton said that Bo Nix was their guy the whole time, they decided after his pro day, obviously didn't trade back because of the Raiders need for a franchise QB. For the record, I think Nix is going to be a competent NFL QB.
Just pay Jets, man. We got enough cap, enough flexibility, and he's young enough... it's gonna be fine. Just give him what he wants and go watch him be the best in the business brother.
JJ ain't going nowhere, he just got here! Let him play his first season before trading him. Jetas will be a Viking until a franchise QB proves himself worthy.
I think the ucla edge murphy will not only make the team but will contribute this year . Can see McGlovern also making the team if they end up moving on from booth or evans
I can’t wait to see the haul Kwesi can get for Jefferson. I’m going to set my expectation at a couple day 2 picks so I’m not pi$$ed off. Kwesi tries to do his best impression of Mike Flynn no matter which direction up or down the draft he goes. Trading a player is probably no different.
No, actually, it's not fun to talk about or even speculate. As Vikings fans, we don't want to hear that. We want this done, and him focused on football, not his contract. Only people in the media think it's fun
Let's retire "running downhill". It used to be "rolling downhill" which made sense. Running downhill is very difficult and much slower than running on level ground (which is where football is played).
Jefferson gets the offense into scoring position, which is wonderful. But it hasn't translated into enough points because of O'Connell and Cousins and the lack of run blocking and running. They don't need Jefferson.
Also, Richter is a bigger guy than Kamara. IMO, he has more talent just was only given a shot his senior year due to roster depletion at the position. I see it that Gant will have to beat out Thompson if he’s just a ST guy.
I could see JJ getting his new contract. If in 4 years, the other JJ is everything we expected or even better, we pay him. We could trade one of our JJ's for a load of picks and pay the other JJ. In 4 or 5 years, the QB JJ will probably be asking for $50 mil. That would cost too much to pay both JJs. WR JJ could be worth a load of picks.
Beyond idiotic to pay a WR that kind of money, even if you have the cap space now. WR's just don't move the needle where it matters. The numbers speak for themselves, 1-8 with the worlds greatest WR last year, 5-2 without him. We're only 30-30 overall in 4 years with 1 playoff appearance. A playoff game where he was pretty much a non factor. You can't remember the last time a WR made the difference for a team or carried a team through a playoff run. It doesn't happen. Only 2 of the highest paid WR's even made it beyond the division round last year. JJ is worth far more in a trade than he is on the field, especially at that price tag. This franchise has never had a problem finding talented WR's, which is all you need, you don't need the best. Paying JJ that kind of money is a fan service move, not a championship building move.
Fan service move. 100%. Paying a WR huge money is not a smart way to build a roster. Can they afford Jettas since they have a QB on a rookie deal? Yes. Should they have? No. But they are stuck now for 2024. The Viikings’ WR room isn’t deep enough to lose Jefferson now. They would have had to trade him before the draft. Let him ride out this year on his 5th year option and then tag and trade him after the season.
No, Jefferson IS NOT the only reason a team would go to the S.B. There haven't been many big time receivers in the last few. He hasn't played in any of them !
guessing no matter what they offer he is out....get this year then Franchise him....could even Franchise twice and still be ahead over 3 years.....then get a 3rd round comp pick....
Huh? He literally is THE leader of the team right now…… You take him away and this is a 5 win team at most……. You don’t trade away star players…… you think the chiefs have ever wanted to trade Mahomes? No they paid him everything he’s wanted
These guys should be more concerned about retaining Justin, Vikings may have a talent finding receivers, but they also have a bad habit letting the go.
Sorry guys aint watching Thorsday. Its weird him and the love of his McHandoff....😂😂😂 I'll watch it as long as the 5th qb off the board isnt discussed...lol
The Vikings are trying to win a Super Bowl and they need to know if Jefferson is all in or not. Is JJ an important part of this team going into a Super Bowl window for sure yes is he absolutely necessary for a Vikings Super Bowl hell no!!! Don’t let him be a distraction from the mission.
Now is the time to trade him if we want to go that route. Stack mad picks, out 1st next year is likely top 10 without him, then boom we load up like mad and roll out JJ.
murphy maybe a 1trick pony now but Ive seen a lot of 1 trick ponies through the the years some where along the line of their career they start rounding out and turn out to be a good player.
