This was the performance that showed that her right arm was paralyzed from the tumor that came from the breast cancer. What an amazing woman; to perform despite the fact that she couldn't move her arm. Makes me sick how the truly talented are taken from us way too soon.

It's SO amazing to me that Minnie was battling such a rough disease, yet STILL performed with such fervor and fire! And the vocal phrasing in that high note is nothing short of amazing. This woman is phenomenal.
I love Mariah, but Minnie was really something else AND in a different realm altogether! Just like Lisa Fischer and Rachelle Ferrell. Minnie could really belt it out if asked and this is proof right here. Totally underrated vocalist!!! One of the very best to ever do it, period.

So many great females that could blow any of these "divas" out of the water. Does not surprise me that the young ones took nothing from the great ones of yesteryear. it's true there's a lot of trashy music but working in that field I know a lot of genuine true talent and classy female singers. Ones that have taken notes from the greats, with jazz and funk and R+B and have really learned from them and created their new version. A lot of female singers and composers but also working production on their own music as well as for other people and collaborations which is really nice. I think it's a bit of a blanket assumption to claim there's no good female artists like Minnie anymore. I think if she was still around she'd be connecting with these newer female artists who are making great music.
Minnie was an incredible songbird and a beautiful woman inside and out. She showed so much courage and strength. She wasn't afraid to show herself inspite of the fact that cancer was obviously affecting the mobility in her right arm. Her strength is a testament that we can get through anything life throws our way. Thank you Minnie. Your music moves me!!
Minnie's voice is just so full of genuine innocence, clarity and reverence; it's a true revelation! I loved her when I was a child and love her even more now as an adult! To think that she's singing so effortlessly and joyfully, although her right arm is paralyzed; was in a pain and looking her own mortality right in the eyes! She is a true gem; a legend! At 65, this is my first time seeing her, or hearing any of her stuff other than one song from years ago. I had no idea--sad and sweet at the same time, what stage presence, what amazing diction, voice, the whole package-and her poor arm, yet she seemed to soar above it, hope she is flying high, somewhere.

It just seems like she wasn't finished, she had so much more to give, so much new music to experience, a new sound of the 80's was on the way she really would've sky rocketed....it just seems so unfair :( her spirit was so sweet and she wanted to be with her babies. The song return to forever was so gray, cold and it seemed like it was the very end so so sad.

WOW! We could not imagine what she was going through! She was undergoing such a bad illness and still she was SO joyful! WOW! She sang until her very last day on earth with that beautiful smile of hers no matter what was happening to her body! And her voice never changed even a bit no matter how sad she was because of what was happening to her!! She gave color to the world! But now she is in heaven... No more pain... No worries! @melencolley I saw her at the Allen theater (1976-77) right after she recorded "reasons". She opened for Norman Connors and George Duke. She blew the crowd away and unfortunately for NC and GD everyone got up and left after she sang. It was that deep and her voice was no joke, she hit every note and a few extra. Phenomenal! Finally a tribute/anthology is available with everything she did from Rotary Connection til she passed away. It is called "Petals".
She truly was an angel among us! I❤loved❤her so much! What an incredible human being! Inside and out, her light only comes along, maybe once every millennium if humanity is lucky!!!

I'm gon' say it again...I SOOO wish she had recorded her own version of this on either the Stay in Love lp or Minnie... It's my FAVORITE version now. I love the way she bends the note on "Dark", and yes when she hits a high note...there's no distorted facial expression...yet it's full of emotion and totally fits within the rhelm of the song...appearing effortless yet execution is priceless.
