I am on olanzapine (antipsychotic) and I am also on sertraline (anti depressant) and they do help. It was very severe before that, I had such a horrible mental state and hallucinations and low mood before them. I still have paranoia, intrusive thoughts, periods of low mood and more, but it is nowhere near as severe as it was before I started taking them. I started taking sertraline 1-2 months into my hospitalisation and olanzapine a few months after that, because I actually requested that I wanted medication to the doctors and nurses because I knew something was really off with me.

Thank you so much for responding. I’ve had anxiety most of my life and I’ve been able to cope with it without medication. About a year ago. I’ve developed a panic disorder and I would have random panic attacks about once a week where I would call my partner to come and stay with me until the panic attacks subsided. After November 26 I had a severe panic attack, and after this particular panic attack the next day, I was never the same. I developed symptoms of depression. I couldn’t believe it. I stopped eating and working. Haven’t been able to move much do my usual chores around the house it’s been a complete disaster. I’ve never experienced anything like this. I saw my doctor on December 6. She prescribed anti-depressants which I have not started taking yet after seeing the doctor miraculously all the symptoms went away for a week and I was completely back to normal for about a week and then all of a sudden the symptoms started coming back, and now I have a churning stomach every single morning I wake up my body feels like it ran a marathon, every time I think of something positive that sinking feeling in the stomach activates and won’t allow me to do anything even if I don’t have any negative thinking patterns, I wanna do things but I’m just unable to because of that sinking feeling in the stomach. Any advice with this could be would really help me tremendously. I really appreciate you for responding.

I have all of the symptoms listed. I struggled with myself from when it was just anxiety and stress to when it turned into major depression and was only recently treated after a failed suicide attempt. My mother didn't believe that I was really sick but thought I was lying. Fortunately, my father believed in me and it was thanks to him that I was able to receive treatment. Things were really bad before I got to see a psychologist. I lost 10kg in a few months, I went from the top scorer in the school to mid-range. And the last time I committed suicide I almost succeeded. I cut my own wrist, the wound was wide and deep because I could clearly see the tendons and had really damaged my blood vessels. My hands and feet turned purple and grew cold as my blood trickled down the sink. My mother was outside screaming at me to die. That night I almost passed out from blood loss before my dad took me to the hospital the next morning. I am currently taking antidepressants. Hope everything gets better. I've been up against this and survived for almost 10 years now. So guys, who are also suffering the same thing, let's try together. My doctor often told me, "Life will only give up on you when you choose to give it up." ❤

When you described depression as a symptom of a burnout, it was 10/10 for my thoughts. Never have I read so many books ever before🤣

Does reading help you fall asleep?
@anastasiiazdorikova
@anastasiiazdorikova Год назад
@@Succulent57 it helps me put away my phone 30 minutes before sleep. I primarily do the reading for that. The rest depends on the book. For example I'm reading a 2000-edition of Kurt Vonnegut and the font is so horrible, I fall asleep in minutes. Or when I read in German (I'm Ukrainian, so it's like my 4th language) it's too hard to concentrate for a long time, so it also helps falling asleep and prevents the ruminations after shutting down the lights

I have had moments in life where I got out briefly but the latest version is the worst yet, I have all the symptoms except sometimes I can find pleasure in things for a while as I am able to disassociate from my crappy life in those moments. This, I’m 28 and just realized I’ve had some form of depression since my teens. Lol could’ve been my parents getting a divorce, the constant times I’ve tried to say something and get talked over and other things. It definitely comes and goes, it gets worse when I work more than I have days off. Or when I lose or quit my job and am behind on bills and they get turned off. When everything is on, video games, tv shows, movies and friends are everything to be in the moment with that. That’s what I really wanted to say sorry for the rant.

I’m on the mend from it, and I appreciate the growth I’ve done since consciously making an effort to not “sit and stew” in it, but feel through it, and make efforts to do things that will help like working out and journaling.

Dr. Marks, currently our understanding of how light impacts our circadian rhythm is not limited to blue light - the melanopsin ganglion cells in our eyes detect the amount of light, not just blue light, and regulates the release of melatonin. So, it is the intensity of light in general that affects our sleep. The best advice is to avoid bright light after 8pm, and make your living space as dim as you can (safely) after 10pm. True red light can be used at higher brightness than other lights before it affects these cells, however. Essentially, blue light blocking glasses do not achieve the effect that you are looking for.

Thinking of returning part-time as so many people need help (and my LMFT is current!).

@@DrTraceyMarks I feel certain that I am going thru of period of burnout. I have some mild depression symptoms. I just got a new watch that reminds me to breathe. Monitors my sleep and reminds me to get active. I am taking my vitamin D supplements to help ease my symptoms. Eating better and taking time for myself. I can't wait to get back into some sessions with my therapist. I'm thankful for your content to get me thru til those times.

Love how succinctly you explain psychiatric concepts. I've been battling major depression for a while now and it's slowly improving, partly thanks to Celexa... Your videos help a ton and I'm sure many will agree with me! Thank you!

Hey there Dr Tracey Marks! I first off wanna start by saying thank you for enlightening us and providing wisdom.. it’s good that knowledge can be given. & a light could be shed upon mental health. We need this! I have newly been diagnosed with MDD and GAD.. however I’m am not my diagnosis.. I wanna fight this!! Here recently I have lost my cognitive skills you know due to the anxiety and depression.. my executive functions are NOT operating in top tier level.. can you please make a video describing how depression and anxiety effects you cognitively and what we can do to gain them back? How long have you seen a patient without them? I need mine asap! Thank you I’m advance ❤

Thank you for the in-depth videos covering the natural solutions for depression. It’s very helpful as my psychiatrist has briefly mentioned exercise to help me. I feel like I wasn’t as ready to consider exercising for my depression until I watched this video. :) Btw, is that RU-vidr iDubbbz at 5:58? I thought the next time I would see him in a video was at Creator Clash 2! 😂

Light control to fix sleep: A lot of us nightowl nerds use aluminum foil (sometimes backed with cardboard for the heat that gets absorbed by the foil) to cover the inside of the bedroom window. But talk to your landlord first to see if you're allowed.

Hi Dr Tracey, Thank you for sharing these videos, they are super helpful and informative ❤️. I was wondering what your opinion is on Mirtazapine for Depression. One of my close relatives started it 3 months ago at 15mg, unable to take a higher dose due to side effects. It’s helped with her anxiety and panic attacks but depression is still quite bad. Also experiencing very heavy and irregular / frequent menstrual periods since starting this antidepressant. I wanted to ask your advice regards whether irregular periods are common with this medication? and whether it’s worth her persevering with the med? If you can offer any insight or info at all I’d really appreciate it, thank you so so much! xx

I have always, and still do meet all of these criteria. Some days I can chug along through days and make it. But most days have been a struggle. And it seems as though my anhedonia has worsened as I’ve reached my 40s. Things I use to at least enjoy doing I feel so dispassionate about and can’t even muster up the mental or physical strength to do them.

Oh, Tracy. I’ve known a lot of medical people who pronounce mnemonic as you do - “pneumonic” - and I wish y’all wouldn’t. It’s /nəˈmänik/ … neh-mah'-nik. I appreciate all you do for us ADHD types! Thank-you.

2020-1 was so bad for my depression, even with my medication. My "favorite" part is being congratulated about losing so much weight. I've taken to responding "It wasn't intentional; I was depressed." If that doesn't click, and it rarely does, I add "are you congratulating me for being so depressed I didn't eat [enough] for months?" DH's cpap lets us _both_ sleep much better this last year and a bit. He was noisy.

I don’t like taking sleep medicine, but I’ve recently adopted the use of Unisom. It doesn’t always help me as much as I’d like, but it helps me get at least five hours of sleep most of the time. Six and a half years ago, I fell off a cliff, spent three months in a coma, and two years relearning to walk. I’ve had sleep problems since coming out of the coma. I’ve also had a whole host of other problems, but the sleep issue is relevant today.

Oh my goodness Abby, you've really come a long way. Unfortunately brain injuries can really change your sleep structure. Antihistamines like Unisom can work in a pinch to help with sleep, but you have to be careful taking them regularly as they can contribute to slowed thinking or memory issues. These changes can be too subtle to notice in most people, but may be more pronounced in someone with a brain injury. Just something to be aware of.
