This why 90s and before was so great musicians or artist needed real talent when it came to singing rapping or playing instruments so you had to sound official which isn’t a requirement nowadays
Yesss I was at this taping in 1992, Naughty by Nature also performed that night and I got to meet my crush Tempest Bledsoe who was the host!! A night I will never forget!!! Good share!!!
Out of curiosity, was "forever in your eyes" on the radio heavy at the time of this taping? I got the feeling that the audience had never heard that track before.
sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
You're both right. Technically it doesn't sound like the radio version or the recordered version which is because of the extra adlibs but Stokely sounds like he sounds when it was recorded.
Too many adlibs for me. Go listen to Prince or Phillip Bailey, they don’t embellish as much. To me it throws his voice off key in some cases.. He’s a good singer but these adlibs are annoying to me!
I was born in 88. I was raised on all the good music. Anybody remember the New Jack Swing era? I use to love watchin’ my pops dance to all that stuff, he’d be doing them old ass New Edition moves lol
This aired 4/25/1992... just 3-days before my 22nd birthday. My beautiful brown-eyed girlfriend at the time and I wore the cassette single out in more ways (and places) than one☝🏾
Saw them in concert when they were in Chicago in the early 2000's and they were unbelievable! During a musical selection Stokely successfully played every instrument on stage!
Damnit, I can’t get enough of this song. This is one of those songs you can play when you’re experiencing heartache, having a good day or just washing dishes. This is my jam.
MC ripped this song, Stokley has such a unique sound. Remember, they were brand new and this was their first hit, and to do this live at the APOLLO??? These guys were either nuts or had balls of steel.
Stokley is STILL to this day one of my fave all time singers & he could’ve been so much bigger! I grew up in the 90’s & I had this tape & then on CD & still love it to the day! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I try to play this every month or so. Absolutely brilliant. Stokely is a master. The Apollo Theatre in the 90s really hosted some stellar performances.
Football Player Terrell Owens was on ESPN T. O. Flirted with Jemelle Hill, He and Sang: " Pretty Brown Eyes " Everyone fell out laughing as Jemelle started Blushing. T.O. killed it,he was good.
Ahoraaa!!!
Man, every era of R&B and all other types of music had great, good, and poor performers. I don't that any era is better than any of them. Sure, we all have our preferences, but I love R&B and I'm a fan of it all. It is just different. That's what makes it all unique.
My favorite drum teacher had me do a drum recital to this song 27 YEARS ago while he played the bass. I thought that this song was OK but he had me playing the sixteeth notes on the hi hat which made it funky.
