Cordialissimi saluti.
It's rare that a mezzo can resolve and hold from the same open fifth that Sutherland does, but Horne manages to make it look so easy here, to end the final section of the work. Simply wonderful. They were truly an unequalled duo in opera. Thanks for posting this.
How blessed I am to have heard these divas live. So long ago. Opera today is a total mess. Truly a dying art form. I'll die with memories of the golden age ringing in my ears.....
Never had I ever felt, nor never will I ever experience the feeling of so much love in any one place or time. as was expressed in that auditorium after that legendary performance.
Horne sang in duet with Sutherland; Sutherland sang in duet with Caballé; Caballé sang in duet with Horne. The three were very good friends and not rivals. I dream of a concert where they could have been gathered...😌
Espetacular! A dama Joan é eterna...
This is probably the best performance I’ve seen of this duet by these two… and there are many floating around from throughout the years/decades. Question…Do you happen to have the full concert that Joan and Marilyn did at Lincoln Center? It used to be on RU-vid a few years ago, but it was taken down for some reason. Thanks 😊
There are a lot of opera crazies in there. Can you hear the lunatic screaming "Brava Brava" at the top of his lungs? Surely HE lost his own voice very shortly!
She sang brilliantly with Horne; a great colleague tends to inspire further artistic and musical expression. But I wouldn't say she sang "better' than with all male colleagues. I heard these two women in NORMA at San Francisco and they broke they place apart. But her Lucia's with Domingo, Tucker and Pavarotti, her Amina's with Gedda, her Violetta with Bergonzi and Kraus, her phenomenal Esclarmonde's with Aragall are all breathtaking partnerships in the lyric theatre.
