Miraak EXPLAINED! - The First Dragonborn & Hermaeus Mora - Elder Scrolls Lore 

Miraak was one of the few bosses in the game that really felt like a boss. Great build up over time, hearing about and seeing his power, needing the aid of special shamans and a Daedric Prince to defeat him and his boss battle was genuinely challenging at modest levels. That, and him stealing your dragon souls was a pain in the ass.

Miraak had always seemed like Darth Vader to me. He was incredibly gifted, was a "chosen one", found a new master and betrayed his kin, fought another incredibly powerful individual still loyal to his old allegience (like Obi wan), got defeated, almost died but saved by his new master, (like Palpatine saved him from Mustafar), plus his robotic voice... It seems more than a coincidence.

Miraak: You have no idea of the true power a dragonborn can wield. Me: You have no idea of the true power mods can wield.

10:08 Yet Miraak expresses surprise at the fact you are Dragonborn when you first arrive in Apocrphya. It is more likely that Mora sent the cultists to draw you and Miraak into conflict, rather than Miraak having sent them himself.

"I have found a new Dragonborn to serve me." "May he be rewarded for his service as I am..."

I thought Miraak’s last words were “may he/she be rewarded for his/her service as I have”

Hermaeus Mora is one of the coolest Daedra, basically Cthulu with a PHD.

Fun Fact: Miraak’s VA is the same as Paladin Danse from F4.

Miraak is my favorite villain in TES, he’s really cool looking, cool sounding, and a plain badass, disappointing he had to go out at the hands of Herma Mora and not have a more deserving and badass death

Eh, Hermaeus Mora was ticked off at Miraak because he lost his library card. "Must have left it in my other robes!"

If only it was a canon choice to save him and/or have him survive. He'd be a great character to further flesh out, maybe he'd be a great anti-hero or rival for the Dragonborn like how Vegeta was to Goku.

To answer your at the end I doubt anyone really knows what they might have done where they in Miraaks position. But let’s consider everything we know about being Dragonborn to make an educated guess. First, while one can have the Dragon Blood without the soul of a dragon one cannot be Dragonborn without said dragon soul. As that soul gives both dragons and Dragonborn alike their power. Second, the dragon soul is as much a curse as a gift. Sure Dragonborn have the power to easily gain a dragon’s power. But with that power comes the same instinct as a dragon. The will and urge to dominate everyone and everything. Sure the last Dragonborn might be able to resist this predilection but he/she wasn’t practically raised by dragons. Rather the Last Dragonborn was born and grew up in a world ruled by mortals. Whereas Miraak grew up in Skyrim while it was still being ruled by dragons. Presumably Miraak was born Dragonborn, as I doubt there is any other path to becoming Dragonborn. So we can assume that he had this instinct all his life. An instinct that would likely have been reinforced during his life under the dragons. Third, while it is true normal mortals can learn the Thu’um it still takes them years to be able to use even one Shout at its full power. But a Dragonborn can learn one full Shout without even trying. Meaning that Miraak was probably discovered to be Dragonborn as a kid. As even as a kid he’d still have an instinctive understanding of the Thu’um. With or without killing a dragon. And likely accidentally devoured a dying dragons soul, which is probably what primarily got him discovered to be Dragonborn by his dragon master. Thus likely leading to him being raised by the dragons high priests. In a failed attempt to more effectively indoctrinate him into worshipping their dragon masters. In conclusion Miraak was screwed from the word go as 99.9% of time he’d become almost exactly like his more draconic brethren or worship said dragons as gods. With a 90% likelihood of the former with the 9.9% being the later. And the rest having Miraak being somewhat of a good guy. This is where my answer comes in. 90% of the time I’d likely have done the same thing as Miraak if I was in his position. And I suspect the same can be said for everyone else.

Miraak is one of my favorite NPCs in Skyrim, and I always felt just a little bit bad you couldn't side with him/save him in the base game.

You underestimate the power of the Dovah Side.....

Miraak is one of my favorite characters. His ego and pride makes me laugh. He always has flex on the Dragonborn. He has to out do him. Like when he says “you killed Alduin well done, I could’ve killed him.” But I kinda feel bad for the dude, it’s not totally his fault. A Dragonborn has the urge to dominate, to rule. He just wanted power but t his nature of Dragonborn consumed him.

I like the idea of Vahlok almost more than I do Miraak himself. After all, he defeated Miraak in open combat, and would've ended him on the spot if Herma Mora hadn't saved him.

*Dragonborn* was Skyrim's best DLC hands down.

I remember reading a theory about Miraak's true intent being to end the Kalpa and mantle the Dragon to become the core of the pantheon of the next Kalpic cycle. It was a very interesting theory and kind of held up.

I just want to know if Miraak pledged himself to Mora before or after he was saved from Valoth. Honestly Miraak would have probably returned and fully enslaved Solstheim, if he didn't draw attention to himself with that first assassination attempt.

Hermaues Mora is my favorite daedra by far. Miraak is one of my favorite personalities in TES lore, and the favorite that appear in game. I'm very happy to see this video

I'd have made similar choices as Miraak, but without betraying Herma Mora. Stay in his favour and continue acquiring more power and influence. If Skyrim was made by CDPR there'd have been an option to side with Miraak rather than Herma Mora in the end, and I'd have taken it. Miraak is my second favourite character in Skyrim (after Teldryn Sero of course) and Herma Mora is my favourite daedric prince.

PLEASE DO A MIRAAK BUILD! You guys do such amazing build videos and I would love to see how you would do his back story. For example, Miraak kills the last dragon and is released from apocrypha and sets havoc to Solstheim.

When you think of it, its possible that Hermaeus Mora only took Miraak as a convoluted plan to obtain the Skaal's secret as well as influence over the Last Dragonborn. I think Hermaeus Mora gave the Last Dragonborn free will because the dragonborn would continue adventuring and unwitting gather more knowledge for him.

According to a former writer of Bethesda, Alessia despite being Dragonborn did not have the ability to absorb a dragons soul.

It was one hell of a gamble by Herma Mora. If the last dragon born lost, not o ly would he have lost his new servant, but Miraak would have escaped as well

Miraak is my only motivation to learn and use shouts. I removed shout cooldowns so I can do cool shout combos.

Miraak is my fav character on ES. Really cool history and the story development plus the fight was actually a fight.

It seems to me that Miraak had become so powerful that Hermaeus had to use another dragonborn to defeat him. I think if we didnt exist he would have escaped him.

Here's a cool build idea. The psychic build, they use the ordinator mod, due to the nature of its illusion skill tree. Also some spell mods would be good, but make sure the spells you use fit the psychic theme. So illusion, enchanting (just for the benefits), some alteration, and sneak.

I spent so much time on skyrim when first came put that I can listen to lore for years after my fav. Game ever and I played f.f 7 the day it was released and played Nintendo's Zelda and dragon warrior it has been amazing to see the technology evolve

I have a theory that Miraak is not really evil, when the dragons and dragon priests went to Skyrim almost all of them got corrupted. When Miraak sent the cultists after the Last Dragonborn, Alduin is usually defeated by then same as Harkon and every guild completed. The Last Dragonborn was probably getting a god complex and was losing compassion, and everyone was fueling it, when a Dragonborn looses compassion millions of lives are lost and they become villains, Miraak probably saw that and came up with a plan to teach Last Dragonborn to not get a god complex and loose compassion by beating up and making the Last Dragonborn angry, when you’re at the peak of apocrypha it’s not a battle between the First and Last Dragonborn but between student and teacher, the Last Dragonborn learned compassion again and learned that gods can still cry and bleed.

Perhaps the seekers that you face in aporhcyha were once people who were then trapped then changed into to what they are now.

I wish we knew more about Namira. She’s my favorite.

Miraak reminds me of Darth Vader, even a similar voice.

I feel like Miraak should have been the main antagonist of the vanilla story instead of Alduin. Alduin is cool but it's a lot less compelling to have a story about a dragon who wants to eat the world than a thousands year old man who had a twisted desire of power and knowledge. Also Miraak has better antagonism, see how he's often brought out, by either making you work for him when you fall asleep or stealing your dragon souls, while you're stuck not seeing Alduin most of the game because he had no more interactions than ominously attacking you once then resurrecting dragons. Ultimately Alduin should have been saved for the final DLC and Miraak should have had the ressources of the main story. He would probably be known as the best TES antagonist to this day, maybe even a staple in RPG antagonists

I know its not cannon but some of the cut content makes Miraak even more interesting like the cut "shout" Benthic Scream. Some of what the fandom did with him and the cut dialog their theories in general are very captivating... Also finding out hes voiced by the same guy who voiced Paladin Danse.

Oooooh, Imagine if what happened at Helgen functioned as a trial, to see if someone was worthy of the dragon blood, and that someone happened to be our character. It sure is ironic.

I wish after the cultists attack you it’s required to ask the greybeards about the attack seeing as how it happens after they send you off to get the horn. Also id say miraak is actually playing it smart, instead of Alduin avoiding the Dragonborn due to arrogancy and thinking that he’ll have a “fun” fight and kill the Dragonborn, miraak knows of the Dragonborns power, and attempts to have him killed before he can get stronger.

True Power by Young Scrolls was playing in my head during the entire duration of this video.
