These two are sheer magic to my ears. They say they both have a marvelous chemistry. Of course; they're both from Modena. They drank from the same fountain of beauty.
What a glorious version of this superb duet. I adore Freni in this role (or any other role, she's marvelous). I am so grateful to youtube for having these magnificent moments that light up my life.
Gracias Amigos. Subir esta Joya es muy placentero para los admiradores de esta magnifica y bellísima soprano y el Maestro Pavarotti. Yo soy Krausista total pero me rindo ante estos FENOMENOS. 🎶🎶🎼🎼🇪🇸. Un vijo tenor.
This is the first recording I heard of Pavarotti and Madame Butterfly. It was one of the most transformative moments in my life, as a small child listening to audio recordings at the public library in my town in Alabama. An extra thanks to a public library where someone not white and/or privileged could listen to music like this from around the world. It inspired me to travel around the world and then finally really appreciate what had been erased and destroyed of my cultures in what was renamed the USA.
We ALL must keep working to retain/reinvigorate classical music in our kids' schools. It (classical music) is FAR too precious to allow mindless bean counters to just cancel from our society.
Meravigliosi insieme Freni e Pavarotti. l'emozione mi attanaglia ogni volta che ascolto questo sublime duetto e l'intera opera dello straordinario maestro G.Puccini.
I have listen, many great sopranos do Madam Butterfly, from Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi, Kiri Te Kanawa, and many other , but this, with Mirella Freni and Pavarotti, sends shivers through my body. It never fails to capture my soul.
It is almost unmatched, however Ermonela Jaho is currently performing Butterfly around the world to probably the highest standard in decades. I have seen her sing the role three times, amazing, she pours her soul into every note and her voice is very beautiful, not the biggest soprano voice, and not the celestial sound of Freni, but a very beautiful sweet voice still. Listen to her full versions on here, the one from Madrid a few summers back, her entrance scene is divine.
@@sophiabaldaracci5523 Freni's voice had a celestial sound that can hardly be matched. But is you get the chance once the world returns to normal to see Jaho sing Butterfly you wont be disappointed. She pours her heart and soul into in and her voice, although not huge, still copes well with the demanding piece, there is a sweetness to her sound and she hits the notes and resonates beautifully.
My favorite opera. A sad tale of lost love. I always cry at the end. When he yells Butterfly, Butterfly. And her life ends Her heart/life broken. 😢 He was so callous.

They first performed publicly at La Scala in 1965 in a production of La Boheme. They were childhood friends! Freni starred in the 1975 film Madama Butterfly opposite Plácido Domingo. This definitive 1974 with Freni is the only Pavarotti performance that I'm aware of.
