Who is the terrific interviewer who's finally asking her to be more something more than outrageous? He's seriously good, and he should be acknowledged.
It's Professor Laurie Taylor, and I agree completely - he's a terrific interviewer. Here's an IMDB link for the show if you want to search out other interviews: www.imdb.com/title/tt1872342/?ref_=tt_ov_inf
@@SarahSmith-nr2wj what do you mean by 'his own intellectual framework'? If you have seen a better interview, then I would love to see it. Would you care to share a link? At the end of the interview, Miriam reaffirms her belief in honesty, and expresses her gratitude to Laurie Taylor for having had the opportunity to talk to him. So if she appreciates him, I'm curious to know why you don't?
Though mostly perceived as a "funny dame", she is actually extremely intelligent. Listen to her speak. It is a pure delight. Her diction is 100% perfection.
My favourite woman on this Earth. Intelligent, clever and very very funny. She should have been a mega star. And there's never been a better chat show guest, especially when she visits her friend Graham Norton.
so true. I just recently discovered her. I'm from Germany so, naturally, I haven't got a clue ;) ....she is brilliant! There's so much to be learnt from her! And your country can judge itself really happy to have public people like her. I mean she really makes a difference, shapes opinions, makes people think critically...and you also have others like her: Julie Walters, Maggie Smith (and the guys, of course, too)....they are all so brilliant. Germany is unfortunatelly a bit culturally depraved...I think it might be because we Germans sort of lost ourselves and had to rediscover ourselves so often in history. So, I think, we are in a slight state of flux, always searching, always uncertain....which is not bad! Rigidity is always worse....but I miss something firm, something well-grounded...and people like Miriam have that.
Miriam is a butterfly in jackboots, she is polite, softly spoken, but she scare the hell out of interviewers. Her inability to suffer fools, her wisdom, frankness and dry wit makes them look asinine and fatuous. A wonderfully funny lady.
Miriam is very earthy and very real. Her tears over touching Dickens pen is most understandable....what a feeling that must have been....and her understanding of the times he lived in is very deep. As a Jew Miriam is very understanding of the sharp end of the stick and very conversant with the problems....as seen in other interveiws. I think Miriam is a very special lady with a lot of brains and a heap of talent. Very very special lady...a Treasure that we should recognise with a title....Dame ?.....Long Live Miriam xxxx
I only discovered this magnificent person via a Graham Norton show and then came upon the 'In Confidence' piece. I would not normally even look for a show like this to watch and she had me transfixed. I could not do anything but listen to this discussion along with its excellent Host. What a treasure. What a gift. Honest and objective.
she's the bravest woman I know! Funny that she portrayed the Hufflepuff-houseteacher when in reality she is a TRUE Gryffindor - brave, impulsive, never give a shit about rules!
A fascinating interview with someone who I have always admired. And I am again struck by her amazingly clear diction. Ok, I know that shouldn't surprise me, given the fact she's an actress, but she really does have a superb voice.
She's one of those actresses who have been in so many things that I'd immediately recognize her face but it wasn't until last year did I really learn more about her. What an absolute gem!! LOVED her on Graham Norton!!
In 2013 Miriam became an Australian citizen. She was quoted as saying "It was one of the most meaningful events of her life". She has been a regular visitor over the decades. Her partner is an Ossie. This is an amazing interview. We never know what she will say or do but in this we saw yet another side of Miriam. I love her talent and her exuberant personality! Mostly I love her authenticity. From another Ossie down under! 👇💜🙃
A wonderful person whom I've admired for very long time. Thank you Miriam, you have made 'a difference' to many many people such as myself. Thank you for being who you are.
She is absolutely wonderful. I just discovered her a month ago and I cant get enough of her. She is so grounded, honest, mischievous and humble in the most humourous way.
Miriam is an incredible person. I just love hearing about her observations of people and the voice impressions and impersonations she does. She's wise and passionate about her experiences. Good on ya for posting this video
My God, Woman! If only I had-had a mother like that! You were truly blessed. 💖 I also greatly admire your character, Miss Margolyes. G-d Bless you. 💖🙏💖
John Cleese and Miriam Margolyes are literally just amazing... I can't believe I just discovered this amazing lady... I love her...I fucking love her...
I have followed her as much as I can through the media . I don’t always agree with a crude streak that runs through her comedy, but she is very talented, intelligent, giving and kind. I really enjoyed this interview.
It's interesting the way they talk about her child-like qualities, because it's something I've always thought about her. It's not that she's childish, exactly, it's that she's retained some of the characteristics that we associate with children - the ones that ought to get carried over into adulthood. Growing up is about shaking off ignorance of the world, learning how to learn and how to think, and too often things like honesty, clarity and wonder are unfortunate casualities along the way. Good on you, Miriam, for maintaining those things throughout everything you do :)
Honesty Clarity & Wonder. I could NOT have said it better. THESE are the three Kings that came to adore the Christ CHILD and we seem to have lost sight of them in this modern world of Helter Skelter; catch-as-catch-can; & just getting by....
I never knew the thoughts of this grand and gracious lady thinks of West-bank and the refugee camps. She boldly calls Israel as an abomination. This is an honourable lady. Hats off!
Dickens is escapism at it's ultimate....you actually feel as if you know the people he is describing...the places too... fascinating characters in all his novels... what an interesting man he must have been....
Miriam would be so happy to hear this! She's inspired me in the same way. Esp after I saw her perform Dickens Women onstage in 2012 in Adelaide Australia. She's v inspiring. From a Mirium Ossie fan! 👇💜🙃
Y'all having inspired me now to reread Dickens. I believe I read something in school cuz we were required to and I had one memory which stayed with me forever, so that's interesting. AS I recall, the little orphan boy had been actually from a very fine upper-class family and then he found himself as a street urchin growing up as an orphan. My memory is when he was meeting someone, he used the type of words and body language that a very upper-class, well-bred little boy would use. HE said something to the effect: "SO nice to meet you". And he bowed and extended his hand or something like that. I don't recall the particulars now but it just brought home how one's ancestors do speak through one sometimes and in his case of course he got beaten up for being innately of that background. BUT often it does lend its hand to aid us in this crazy world we now live in where we have no models to look up to or to mimic in the best possible sense of the word. So YES Dickens it is ladies!!☺
Miriam is one of those very special human beings that comes around once in a lifetime, I just adore how she tells it as it is, nothing artificial about her at all, what you see is what you get, and I love her for that.
The extreemest in all her witty, education, bravery, emotional, explosive(something she picked from her mom). warmth, funny & honesty,,, simply she managed the impossible in a character , to stay opinionated in the pure form of truthfulness to what she deeply believed in and she manifests that in the most posh beautiful accent there is. she is in her own league far away from hypocrisy. All Respect
God you are an incredible woman. I admire you so much because you are and have been able to be your own person. Thanks to you I have real inspiration xxx
She has been on The Graham Norton more times than anyone else and it is not hard to see why. Ask her a Question and she will give you a straight answer. She honestly does not give a FUCK what people think. It is especially brilliant when you see those P.C. YANKS come over and it is funny to see their reactions. That's why everyone loves her
I Am A Yank but never PC . I would jump right in with her because she talks the way I talk and she thinks the way I think BUT I understand & I take your point: most Yanks are a mess right now and DON'T know their head from their hind side. BUT NOT ALL OF US😉
Candid, humourous and refreshing human being. She always makes me laugh and also take a fresh look at life's absurdities. Live, laugh, love. Thanks MM 😂❤🎉
