Mirrors on Road Bikes? 

I couldn’t even imagine riding on the road without a rearview mirror! It’s literally the most important thing to have on your bike if you want to stay alive. Durianrider 🤘

A mirror is a must-have for any road cyclist. I've been using a helmet-mounted mirror for the past 15 years and I feel naked without it. I did get a radar unit this year which is great, but I still think the mirror is very important and useful.

Mirrors are a cool idea if you need the extra confidence of clear visibility. I've seen them in My Ride Salisbury for just $29

Most bike riders i see dont have a mirror it's a must for me.

Hi Serafina , I recommend a Zefal Z Eye Mirror that is attached to your bike helmet because it's at the same level as your right eye and you can have a very quick glimpse and then get your eyes back on the road. I had a mirror like yours before but I found that you have to look down to see it and it takes longer . Don't forget things happen in a split second out there on the busy roads and you don't want to get your attention off those idiot car drivers that pull out in front of you or ignorant people throwing car doors wide open without looking to see what's coming. I have the same mirror but I use it in conjunction with my Garmin Varia rear light/radar that way you have the best of both worlds, the Garmin had an audible beep on your existing head unit when a vehicle is approaching from behind then you can look in your mirror to confirm what type of vehicle and how far back it is, the Garmin Varia rocks!. I'm sill amazed that in 2022, we give motorists and excuse to rant about cyclists. Of course you should have at least one mirror, headlight and taillight. I run mine during the day. Why you ask? well, we ARE in traffic, and motor vehicles are required by law *at least here in Canada* to have daytime running lights, so why should we smaller and more vulnerable participants get a pass on safety? If you think bright coloured helmets and tops work..not as much as you think. I also ride motorcycles, and was a motorcycle safety instructor, and taught the students that yes, hi-viz is good, but so many studies have proven car drivers just don't "see" us, so lighting AND mirrors are items that every cyclist should take seriously. How long ago were helmets considered "uncool" and "took away from the experience". And just assume, that despite all your efforts...lights, colours, bells, helmets, that they are still out to get you...it's kept me safe for decades.

I have the same mirror and i love it. Racers think that it doesn't look good and not aero. I think better to look down the mirror than turning my head while riding at 50kph

Mirror or not, my head stays on a swivel coz drivers are Garbage on a good day, and utterly terrifying on a bad day. I feel like a bully on my bike sometimes but I’m not going to be a statistic to someone not paying attention or simply doesn’t care. I don’t ride with a mirror because it won’t change the drivers behaviour.

What about the corky mirror Durian Rider was promoting last year??

drop bar mirror is must for me, or if youre rich just use garmin radar.

My mirror is the reason that I'm not dead. I watched a truck move close on a narrowing bridge & had to dump into the gravel. The mirror gave me the chance to plan an action.

Have this mirror on my mtb and it works great the view is perfect. But On the drop bar I always wonder… do you have a full rear vision in the mirror? Wouldn’t your leg obstruct some potion of rear view?

For touring bikes im a fan of mirrors but for any road bike I much prefer the Varia Radars. You have your head unit with you at all times anyhow so may as well use it for safety also. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UTLIeaRKN6c.html Not cheap but worth every penny.

If I were Serafina, I would get the mirror just so I could look at myself in the mirror all day, because I was so beautiful! :)

Still not sold on the idea. I can see the benefit for some people, but I think the majority of the cycling community would not view this as an addition to their bikes

I always keep a mirror on my bike. Very good idea. Drivers where I live will literally kill you and keep going, I've been hit before by a person texting. Even the cops yak on their phones while driving. I still double check by looking back too. Stay off main roads where possible.
