In my opinion, Annie Wilkes is the scariest villain Stephen King has ever written, a lot more that Pennywise the Dancing Clown, the Overlook Hotel, Barlow and Carrie White. It is the reality of the book that makes it the scariest, so yeah, nothing is scarier than a serial killer cockadoodie number-one fan girl.

Wow, this video is only a day old, and it was just yesterday I finished the book, and just TODAY when I finished the movie. Awesome timing. Also, love your video quality, your voice is perfect for this kind of format.

Now everyone let's be honest - who didn't have a thought that it would be great to lock someone like GRRM in a basement and keep him there until he finished writing the book.

Don’t give GRRM any ideas about burning his manuscript

This was the first book that got me into reading when I began in March 2022. This book was fantastic and opened me up to the idea of reading for pleasure. Something that I was tremendously ignorant to before.

It's amazing when a book has the ability to open you up to a whole new medium. What is it that made you pick it up in the first place?

Annie Wilks is by far the most insidious and terrifying villains King has crafted. King describes pain and drugs numbing effects as a tide exposing and hiding rocks. My understanding is Annie is a metaphor for addiction.

The anxiety that I felt while reading Misery was so intense I can't even describe it. Fantastic novel. And yes! Please do a movie comparison it would be so interesting I think.

Sooo many of his characters are writers lol IT is my favorite King book, but I can say Annie is scarier because she could be real & people like her really exist in this world. I watched the movie as a kid & just remember thinking it was just some old movie so it took me a long time in my King reading journey to get to Misery & I regret not reading it sooner. The ending was so suspenseful when you're trying to find out where she is, will he make it, did she die, is this real or not?! It was so good!

Yeah I loved it. You're right though. Stephen King kind of installs himself in the narrative with writer characters and I actually like it when he does it. I just picture the characters as looking exactly like Stephen King lol.

For some reason I really like it when Stephen King puts in pieces of media, that do not actually exist, into his books. Like the Snippets of Misery’s Return or newspaper clippings in the regulators. Oh yeah, Misery links with IT and The Shining. With mention of the overlooks and Eddie’s mom in IT

Fun to see that you enjoyed Misery. For me, I actually wasn’t too big of a fan of it (I should probably give it a reread) but that’s because of how much I enjoyed the movie. I think Annie is the main event of the book. She’s so scary. And since you liked Misery, you should check out Gerald’s Game (also by King). It is kind of a Twinner of Misery. Great vid as always :D

I've actually seen the movie of Gerald's Game not so long ago and it was creepy man! I bet I would like the book, you're probably right.

Literally just posted my review for misery on my channel yesterday. Funny how the RU-vid algorithm works! Loved your review and the points you give. This was my first Stephen King book and I ate it up! So good! I think human stories are much scarier than any monster or creature. Annie Wilkes is frightening because she can be someone we know. Her unpredictably and erratic behavior changes made her one of the scariest villains in any book I've read. My wife and I just watched the film too. I hated it to be honest. The casting was PERFECT. But it needed to be longer. I needed to sit in the shoes of Paul a bit more. Really feel his miserable state.

That's interesting that you didn't like the movie. I liked both but I saw the movie first, so maybe that had something to do with it. I'll have to check out your review mate. Thanks for commenting.

Not sure if I just read this book at the right time or if it is just sooooooo good; but, this is absolutely my favorite Stephen King book.❤❤❤ Love the review! Ranking Annie one of my top villains for sure! Unforgettable at least

Yeah I agree. It's really a great book. You know what's funny? Sometimes your profile name appears to me as Sarah and sometimes as "AnnieWilkes" haha! Did you change it recently? 😂

@@PaperbackJourneysit’s supposed to be AnnieWilkes as the handle! After reading Misery I just loved it so much. I don’t see myself as her, but definitely love the character. I wish it would stick every time. I’ll have to see if I can figure out why it doesn’t. Looking forward to the movie comparison 🎉. Can’t wait!!

I saw the movie years ago, and it was great. I agree with you, Annie is more scary than IT. Now that I've seen your video, I must read the book! As always, a great video!!!
