A couple of you lovely people have pointed out that I said Captain Abraham instead of Captain Ahab. Please know I'm appropriately humiliated and slapped my face when I was editing the video but it was too late. 😅

I hope you get to Robin Hobb. Her books are beautifully written and I am on the third of the Farseer trilogy, Assassin's Quest, and have bought all the other books in the Liveship Traders and Tawny Man series (there are seven more in her repertoire and I'll buy those later). It will take years to read them all but I trust Hobb to make it worth my time.

I mean this with love because I am a huge Anglophile. When I hear your wonderful voice, I think of that British policeman trope, “Well, hello, hello, hello!” Allegorical is a word. Have confidence in yourself!❤️ Loving your dog, Poe! My tastes are a little different from yours, so I’m reading a lot of British stuff (older): A Countryman’s Summer Notebook by Adrian Bell - reflections on British farming from the past and which is now gone, told in litttle vignettes, so you can dip in and dip out. I’m also reading Hemlock and After by Angus Wilson, The Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux (The Phantom of the Opera) and the new translation of The Odyssey by Emily Wilson. Happy reading!!!

I love the variety in what you'll be reading next month! I recently bought Recursion but I'm going to read Dark Matter first, and for July I'm tackling The Way of Kings (which is over 1000 pages) as well as Network Effect by Martha Wells (to continue my love of Murderbot). I'm also going to be reading some great art history books (one on Chinese architecture, one of the Bayeux Tapestry) and finishing a book about the Chungking Mansions in Hong Kong. Got a couple of pysch/neuroscience books I want to read too, and since I'll be on vacation I may be able to read those too. As always, a great video and look forward to future ones!

I've been starting and dropping books in an attempt to read more "summer vibe" books, so I think it's time to switch things up. I'm considering to join in and go for Recursion too (I liked Dark Matter) and maybe finally read Red Rising, which has been on my TBR for years and years.

Great video (as usual) and you have two adorable dogs! Poe is so cute!! Speaking of dogs, sad to hear that you just thought Cujo was okay. I really loved it. Will you do a review on it? I plan on reading The Deep (Nick Cutter), Hex (Thomas Olde Heuvelt) and The Road (Cormac McCarthy) since you recommended it :)
@PaperbackJourneys
@PaperbackJourneys Месяц назад
Thanks so much. Yeah I love my little lads. They're good boys. I think the reason Cujo didn't work well for me is because it focused quite heavily on the relationship troubles of the characters. This isn't inherently a bad thing but in this case I didn't enjoy it. There were some tense moments and I liked it every time we got the POV of Cujo. I wish there was more of that and less of the relationship drama. I'm so glad you're reading The Road. I hope you enjoy it.

Awesome video! Hello there Poe! Beautiful dog mate. 🐶I read Robin Hobb as a teen and couldn't get into it, perhaps I need to read it in my autumn years. I will read You Like It Darker when I can afford it, I don't buy best sellers. Stephen King is a master of the short story format. I've become a "Pile of Possibilities" guy myself.
@PaperbackJourneys
@PaperbackJourneys Месяц назад
Yeah apparently Robin Hobb isn't for everyone. It seems like one of those series you either love or you hate. With 'You Like It Darker' I only have that in audio format so I hope it has a good narrator.

Interested to hear your thoughts on Recursion. I like Dark Matter beside it's flaws but I thought Upgrade was a disappointment. Idk if Crouch is for me or not. Between Two Fires was pretty good imo.

@@PaperbackJourneysI actually started my Blake Crouch journey with Recursion and of the 93 books I’ve read this year, it is by far my favourite read of the year so far! I then read Upgrade… not awful but not fantastic. Pines was a thumbs down and then Dark Matter was middle of the road too. After having my mind blown by Recursion, I was so hopeful about his other titles, but knowing he is capable of writing something I loved so much means I will probably continue to read anything he releases in the future 🤷🏻‍♀️. Chasing that high I suppose, lol! VERY excited to hear your take on this book 🙌🏼

Thank you very much. I'm so glad that you and your wife enjoy the videos. Also, you have a really great eye. I placed those books on the upper shelf a couple of days ago and this is the first time they've been in a video. You're right, they are related to one another. All of the books are written by Joe Abercrombie. The first three books are a trilogy called The First Law. The second set of books is a trilogy called The Age of Madness. All of the books are set in the same universe and have a lot of crossover characters. So far, I've only read the first trilogy and you probably noticed in this video. I'm going to be reading one of Joe Abercrombie's standalone books (Also set in the same universe.)
