Welcome back to the Dream Automotive RU-vid channel, this week we're extremely happy to be bringing you the first video from our recent Nürburgring trip!
Whilst at the Nürburgring, we met up with ‪@mgcharoudin‬ and let him take our FL5 for a few laps! It was an incredible experience being in the passenger seat while Misha went full send in our car and definitely not one we will forget! 😅

Notice the air intake temperatures of 50 degrees compared to outside temp of 18-20... this is why you should never fit an open air intake just to get a bit of chavvy blow off noise. The high intake temps significantly reduce power. The only times mine sees 50 degrees intake is when sat in queueing traffic for a long time on a warm day. I took my FL5 to track recently and with outside temps of 20 degrees the intake temps never exceeded 40 degrees and I was pushing the car hard for extensive periods of times. This is because mine is stock with a closed intake which takes in cold air from the front grill only (not hot air from inside the engine bay which gets extremely hot). Also my oil temps never exceed 130 degrees. Lesson guys - don't modify your civic type R... Honda know what they are doing and make them perfectly well out of the factory.

@volkz You'll love it, they are brilliant cars and fantastic to drive. I have owned a 911 turbo, Nissan GTR, M5 and M4 and this civic is by far the most fun and engaging car. On B roads it is in its element. I would also advise getting some advanced driver tuition to see where the level of grip is in a safe environment. You simply wont believe how much grip these things have. You'll drive as hard as you think the car can go round bends, then the instructor will tell you to push harder and it'll amaze you. I do believe that people who modify perfectly good cars are idiots. The car in this video will not be as fast as a stock one. Plus it is breaking because they have messed about with it. They have put in open filters, tried to mess with the ECU (which as they said didn't improve the car), changed the suspension etc. When you change suspension it throws all of the geometry and maths out of the window that Honda put into the design of the chassis. Even changing the brakes has a big impact (the size of discs, the exact point when the pads make contact on the rotor, exact calliper position... everything is carefully considered). Keep you car stock, enjoy it for what it is and have the peace of mind of knowing that Honda have your back via a warranty if things go wrong.

This is a classic schoolboy error; fitting a cone filter without considering the hotter air intake. If you want to fit a cone then you must fit a cool-air supply somehow and heatshielding is a good idea also. Surprised to see this from a supposedly reputable tuner tbh. Just goes to show that looks arent everything.

The Pipercross Intake won't be on our car permanently, we will have plenty other intakes spending time on the car as they release and we test!

Oil temperature of 130°C is very hot. Get an oil cooler fitted before you wreck your motor.

Great session to get data. Unless its a fault somewhere then sure cooling mods are likely next. Even with the improvements honda apparently made looks like cooling when on track is still an issue. Look forward to more vids

From what I’ve read for FK8s. The single most effective cooling upgrade is a secondary front mount radiator. Hope a bolt on kit gets developed.

That was a great 2nd lap with Misha. I’ve taken all my recent cars round the ring except for the FK8. Planning to do a track day over their next year with it instead of a tourist one. It’s the only way I’ve found to get insurance. Great video👍

What an awesome lap! I really wanted to see Misha overtake that BMW hahaha I've been doing the iracing fk8 on the ring so thank you for showing the speedo on that second lap, gives me some targets to aim for :-)

On track the FL5 type r doesn't feel very quick at all on straights therefore the last thing you need is power loss via an open intake. Put the pipercross one in the bin and put the stock airbox back on.

What a cool car that you develop👌 congrats! Seeing the oil temps on yours FL5 makes me a bit worried about my fk8 because it's a pre facelift and I can't see oil temps 😬 glad that everything went nice on your Nürburgring trip 🙂

If you'd like to monitor oil temperatures, we recommend investing in a P3 Gauge, an oil temp sensor and a sandwich plate to be able to install the sensor, especially if you're a track day driver! 🙌

I spend a lot of time at Milbrook proving ground where manufacturers test their new cars. The handling circuit is specially designed to test 99% of cornering conditions you will encounter. Cambers, oversteer, understeer, tightening corners everything. When you see how much time, effort and money manufacturers put into testing their cars to get them perfect before sale you'll see why you shouldn't modify a new performance car. I see the likes of Aston Martin spend hours and hours hammering their cars round the circuit at speeds you wont believe. The highly skilled test drivers then report back to the engineers about things like there being too much or too little of this and that. The engineers then go back and correct this, the car is then retested and it goes on and on until it is perfect. Even Jaguar do the same with their base level XE. Honda like every other manufacturer spend so much time and effort making the car perfect. Everything from geometry down to the size, shape and hardness of rubber bushings.

Something is not ok with the car! The 150 oil temperature and 122 water is not normal. Outside is pretty good temperature.

Stock FK8 had really bad cooling issue. Fl5 should have better cooling than FK8, but I don't think it's adequate enough.

Not knocking on Dream Auromotive but I think the parts selected such as the open pod filter which seems to be taking in a ton of hot air and an upgraded intercooler which is like a wall in front of the radiator blocking airflow are making things worse….Considering the ambient temps to be only 18-20 deg cel. The ECU runs on torque targets so with the high intake temps, the ECU might be compensating by increasing boost to meet torque targets which then makes things run even hotter.

There's not much other option in terms of intakes at the minute! We'll be testing more of them as they release over the next few months for certain. In regards of the intercooler, we're using our prototype intercooler which can be subject to change before official release! Going to the Nürburgring was certainly a great opportunity for R&D!

How does the water temp and intake temps compare to what is normal track temps? Were they also really hot like the engine oil? If so then I guess what misha mentioned about a possible faulty thermostat would not be the issue at all then correct?

Damn, he did a great job on track and close to beat the light blue BMW on track but BMW is fast, damn. Your performance mods should be cooler oil and maybe Meth injection to help the temperature down. 😁👍

Personal opinion, i would not give that car to anyone to rape on a track, especially when they use that content for negative publicity....the FL5 is an amazing car, yes it might need a few cooling mods etc but out the box its a pretty incredible car as is.

Something wierd going on with this car. Im tracking at similar ambient temps and my coolant and oil temps are getting no where near this hot... I would remove the aftermarket intercooler (which doesnt look like is doing anything as my intake air temps are the same in the same ambient) and try again.

We would have prior to the trip if there was one available however as the FL5 is such a new car, most manufactures are still developing/testing their parts! We'll definitely be putting one on soon

In terms of engine modifications, we were using a Pipercross Induction Kit paired with an Eventuri Turbo Pipe and a prototype Dream Intercooler. It is safe to say that we an oil cooler will be coming soon 😅

​@@GezzChanThat, the wrap possibly obstructing something and the hot air intake since he removed the factory bathtub to help mitigate engine bay heated air. There's a lot wrong with the car and he's not addressing any of it.

Tunable dampeners and turn them down, this car has tuned dampeners, on a stick tire it can help with weight transfer

Pushing the car behind 140 degrees oil temp is not responsible to the material. Sorry guys.... Also poor engineering from the Honda dudes not solving the problems known from its predecessors. My next thoughts are about the money it costs.... makes no sense to me and I am a fan boy. I drove my FK2R to over 90k kms.

A litle bit angry, you use fk8 for fl5 excuse! Not cool! Fl5 has 150celsius oil and over 110celsius water... fl5 has fuel issues. If fk8 has same problems than there is no sense to buy fl5, than can we stay on fk8. Wven gears are shorter in fk8. I hate fl5 its downgraded fk8

As above I’ve had both, had no cooling or fuel surge issues but my car is completely standard. I had overheat issues with brakes and engine on the road!

@Philslife84 anyone saying the fl5 is too expensive has not driven it, it's way more premium and it's real JDM, the paint quality to even how the boot closes is miles ahead....test drive it before shooting it down
