all kinds of noises annoy me. When people chew too loudly, flipping pages of a book or magazine roughly to make loud noise, clicking, tapping, snapping, cracking, ringing, scratching, opening wrapped foods or bags like chips, squeaky beds, creaking wood, waterfalls, fire crackling, dogs barking, cats meowing constantly, etc etc. I can't deal with alot of stuff, so I listen to music and drown it all out.
Thank you for helping me understand this condition. Seems as I grow older it becomes worse. What I don’t understand is if I make the same trigger noises, they do not bother me. It’s only when others do. I could go the route, if you can’t beat em join em and sometimes this helps but not always practical given the situation. This is a psychological clue for me to try to understand my problem. Thank goodness for ear buds and music!
I just want to say thank you for researching this condition. I've been dealing with it since I was six. You probably get a lot of slack from people who think NRT causes more harm than good. A lot of people in the misophonia community believe that exposing yourself to triggers makes misophonia worse and is harmful, but the thing is, with doing NRT you're exposing yourself in a controlled environment. I have been doing a similar therapy by myself and have found my reflex happens in my left arm. It is cool to see it happen. I hope I can get to the point where I can function like a normal human someday. Thanks again and never stop researching misophonia. God bless.
This is so nice to hear, it's hard for me to explain and understand the correct words. Also. The static noise in the background triggers me. A good amount.
Readers Digest wrote an article on Misophonia not long ago and advised asking for headphones for hearing impaired at the show if you cannot stand popcorn chewers or other trigger noises.
My head does a twitch when I hear a trigger, if the sound keeps going I shake my head, then goes my hands covering my ear while still twitching and shaking.
I have very strong reflexes to my triggers. I have to wear earplugs 24/7 now. is there hope that once I wean myself off my earplugs I can react less to them?
