This was totally monumental for us Filipinos because it was soooo long ago that we won the Miss Universe title as in 40+ yrs ago. Then the whole country was optimistically tuned in at that time that we will win it finally. and then, Pia was announced as the first runner up, we were like WHAT? Then all of a sudden as we were watching as if we were waiting for a miracle to happen, and the rest is history. We are so proud of Pia as a Philippine representative of this pageant but most of all we are so proud on how she handled the situation , it wasn't all beautiful after the pageant, she was bullied there, she was not able to enjoy that victory at that moment, she was crying backstage because other candidates who werefrom latin america sided with Ms. Colombia. It was traumatic for her. But you see, She has handled it with grace, poise and humility. You cannot put a good WOMAN down
I did not like the attitude of the women from Latin America towards Pia. Common sense tellsk people that it was not her fault. She, too, was affected. Robbed of the feeling of being named Ms. Universe because of a mixed up. That really showed the real hearts of those women who where at the pageant. Livid!
She became the most iconic Miss Universe I guess because of that crowning moment. She is also regarded as the drought breaker of the Philippines bringing home the crown after 40 years. And lastly, having that last liner “confidently beautiful” as part of the Miss Universe slogan thereafter cemented her place in Miss Universe history. Just my two cents.
These two Philippine beauties, Catriona and Pia, embodies representation of the Filipino people. That is who they are. They are genuine, sincere, friendly and welcoming people. You have to expect that from Filipino candidates. They're not just there to win for themselves but to represent the whole country because they know they can use the organization to promote their platform, to always focus on helping the poor. These candidates are always motivated to help the poor.
I am Filipino and I remembered watching this alone in my room back in 2015. I was cheering for Pia to get crowned that day but when Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia as Miss Universe, I got really disappointed. I turned the tv off and went outside to get some fresh air. And then moments later, the whole neighborhood went crazy. The condo buildings near me were so loud with residents cheering and shouting in their rooms. And I was like "is there a fire or something?" Until I finally came to my senses and realized that it could be the Miss Universe contest they were cheering to. So, I went back to my room and the rest was history.
Same lmao me and my family turned the TV off because we were so nervous and when Colombia was announced as the winner kind of out of impulse my mom just grabbed the remote and turned it off😂 moments later my cousins from the next neighborhood just shouted with joy and the first thing that came to my mind was Miss Universe and there it was Pia won😂
Us we are ready to turn of the tv and all the people were like really so disappointed but then steve harvey was like saying sorry then all of us started to shout and everything.
Hahah. I was at the office back then taking phone calls. The supervisors and managers and all others who aren't taking calls were watching in the meeting room. Then I eventually heard that PH lost. And I really didn't care. Haha. All I was thinking is the audacity of these people to watch Ms.U and make noises when their agents are working. Then they all get wild again and the noise got worse. Finally, I got to take my break and knew what was going on.
Getting back to your first Catriona Gray's reaction. Remember how Steve Harvey interacted with Catriona/Philippines' bet? I guess it's not about flirting but both of them were making fun of Harvey's mistake with Pia. That's why he said, "The Philippines "loves" me". :D
The Philippines changed the landscape of most international beauty pageants as we have high standards for beauty queens in the country. They serve as role model and influencers for positive change.
Colombians mostly bashed her back then, for them, they were robbed of the crown but for us, Filipinos, we were very happy coz we've been dreaming that one of our girls would finally bring the crown back after how many decades. And Pia did followed by Catriona. 😍
Actually Pia joined Ms. Philippines (bb. Pilipinas) 3x before she got the title, many Filipinos also bullying her, like she join 3x in Ms. Philippines, what more on Miss Universe will she get the crown? something like that. Pia is so genuine that's why I love her. After that happened the Philippines is so proud of her and up until now of course. Since It's been 40 years when the Philippines won the crown it was such a big celebration.
When steve announced Colombia as the miss u, my cousins and I were so upset and I jokingly said that just wait steve will say "I'm sorry it's actually Philippines " and it did HAHAHAHA
Honestly, this was the year that my confidence in the Miss Universe judging went back. To be able to see that they award the crown to the most deserving woman that night and I was glad it was Pia.

the gown is so heavy because of the different shells used as beading. the interview portion is where pia shone brightest. as a country, we were more happy than mad because of the debacle. because at least we got our 3rd miss universe. thanks for the love and for this reaction.
Its a ride of emotions because its really a drought season for our representatives, she made it to final 2 and Im not expecting that it would be favored to her even she performed well, but when that happened were really happy that after 40 long years of waiting, just WOW! But very sad thinking, its a real nightmare for miss Colombia that will haunt her forever. 😢

back in 2015, when the incident happened, the filipinos were greatly overjoyed but at the same time, we felt really sorry for miss colombia, at first. but then ms colombia acted like she was the real winner and was robbed of that crown, so i guess i took my statement back of feeling sorry for her.
This video clip tho' missed the part when Steve announced Miss Colombia as winner then she was crowned. Then after he went backstage, he came back to admit he made a mistake. And you could see all the commotion on the stage with all the candidates, and the audience and judges as well. Forget the emotions, it was the most unforgettable Miss U pageant.

Pia joined the national pageant 3x before she won. People are mocking her and saying to just give up but she didn’t listen to them and joined the bbp for the third time and boom she brought back the crown to us.
For so many years, MU just overlooked the Philippines candidates, they just ended up in runner ups..they are the underdog. The most over look candidates. There were times that Philippines should won but bcoz they thought Philippines is just a poor country ,they just overlook at it. Really, there was injustice. If you check the pageants showing from 2000 onwards you can see ,why I said there was injustice happened.
I was also disappointed when Pia didn't get the Crown so we turned off our TV but then for some reason, our neighbors started screaming and cheering so it turns out she really did won the Crown. Amazing! It really became a big issue for that year and we're definitely not gonna forget it.

Way back 2015 I feel disappointed when Colombia (in all fairness she did well in the competition) announced as winner, we already transfer to other channel I guess in NBA because it is heartbreaking. Suddenly, one of the commentator said that there is a situation in the pageant and we got back to the Ms.U live free TV and that's it just like your reaction we are shocked and very happy that we won again Ms. Universe for the Philippines. I do love Ms. Pia until now very humble and not even commented politically in our country. Oh yeah!! My sister and I were watching this in San Diego during my visit. I had no doubt in mind that Pia was going to get the Miss Universe crown. I "watch, she is going to win" were my exact words to her. Everybody got quiet after Steve announced Colombia as the winner. My sister and I were speechless. After a while, Steve came back to the stage and announced his mistake. Everybody in the audience were buzzing, and everything changed afterwards. Philippines was the winner!!!! I remember that day, i was screaming "Philippines" alone at home. I was sad for few minutes because we didn't win. Then, Steve came back to announce the right winner. I lost my voice after that 😆 In my opinion, that was also the day Ms. Universe became a buzz all over the Universe!

You should react to the compilation Filipino viewers during the announcement, they went crazy. The unfortunate event that happened was some of the contestant show their true ugly color to her, when she tried to approach Miss Columbia specially Miss Germany.
At this time i was so shocked and i feel very sorry for miss colombia, but all the guilt were gone on how they react to what happened. Obviously, Pia had mixed emotions there. Happy because of winning and sad for what happened to Miss Colombia. It was so awkward for both of them standing beside each other hearing the boos and the cheers of the crowd. That moment was so historic.
This pageant was held days before I gave birth to my youngest..Even if have a big tummy during this day, I really jumped for the happiness..we're really shocked why she only got the 1st runner up but everything stopped when we saw majority of the audience were not happy on the decision and when Steve go back and asked for an apology, sadness turned into happiness..Steve made a correction about the real winner..after that, I told my self, I am now ready to give birth LOL..haha..after 5 days I gave birth to a cute little baby girl and it was the best Christmas gift we received
