What an incredible year for Miss Universe Thailand. It seems like this country is always so competitive, and one of the most difficult nations to win, within the Miss Universe Organization. The contestants are always stunning, their walks keep improving and they deliver impactful on stage answers. This year former Miss Supranational, Antonia, took home the title. This was no easy feat considering that Veena, the 2020 first runner up, came back to compete for the title.
These ladies all put on an impressive show and made it difficult for the judges to select a winner for Miss Universe Thailand. Now that the competition is complete Antonia can work on preparation for Miss Universe 2023 that's set to be held in El Salvador in November, 2023. After Antonia won, I went to see her other interviews. I must say that she rediates her warm aura every time she speaks. Her words are soothing with positive, hopefull, and uplifting energy. I rarely went to see other queen's interview, only zozi, cat, olivia culpo. I feel like Antonia has the miss universe vibe. I wish that she will win MU title.

Lara Dutta is the only pageant contestant that has won 2 major international titles, she won Miss Intercontinental in 1997 and then Miss Universe in 2000 😊

Having seen Anntonia numerous times in interviews, I can say she consistently delivers but could always do better (needs more substance). She’s a ‘safe’ bet for Miss Universe and I wasn’t surprised when she was picked over her ‘more competitive’ peers. I wish her luck at Miss Universe; she’s probably the Thailand rep they’re looking for to crown (though I still think last year’s unplacement was a major crime).

Her answer to the MUT pageant final question is safe but not so brilliant answer expected from a beauty queen. She should do more than that, if she expects to win as Miss Universe. It’s not just pretty face and body, this where she should do more training. Beauty queens are expected to deliver convincing and high caliber answer in a matter of 30 seconds, in a well composed and confident manner. Like Catriona Gray and RBonney. When candidates are already in top 5, the ladies have all the same score meaning they are all beautiful and each one is poised to win but what matters most in that moment is the final interview and final answer and here is where the intelligence of the candidate shines from the rest. The candidate who gives the most convincing and intelligent and smart answer in a span of 30 seconds finally wins the crown.

Personally, Lara Dutta was the only Miss Universe who previously won an international title in the new century. Miss Universe 2000 was the only year with 2 former Miss Intercontinental winners competing in Miss Universe. Miss Intercontinental was one of the biggest and most popular pageants in the 1980s and 1990s before Miss Earth (2001), Supranational (2009) and Grand International (2013) were established. I agree with Thailand's placements in the Top 5; they stumble in the communications round alongside Vietnam. Please let me know if I'm wrong, but the best order for Thailand was Miss Universe 1988, Porntip Nakhirunkanok; she is well-versed in English as she grew up in the US. The national pageant reminded me of your pageant year, Dani and I knew you would love it! The announcement of the Top 20 could be better. The girls literally squeezed to one side of the stage and advanced to another side. Need more camera angles on that part as I would love to see all the delegates.

Miss Intercontinental has a long history, indeed, but it was and still is not a big nor popular pageant. It remains just “one of those” (and it got into mainstream pageant conversations only when the huge Philippine pageant community started talking about it, but even that hasn’t helped to elevate its status as a minor bleep in pageantry).

Veena lacks of ability of her speech. Every time she would answer the questions in Thai even though she claims that she is able to speak 3 languages Thai, English & Russian. However she answered the question this time in English , but all her answers are from her rehearsals. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for your great recap as always Dani! For some context, MUT this year each represented a province similar to the State reps in Miss USA. On Q&A the last candidate who answered in Thai was totally off and nervous hence no surprise for her 4th runnerup placement. But she's only 18 and can surely return. I also rooted for Veena #4 but she kind of messed up on the final question repeating her answer from the previous round and also stuttered at the end, switched to Thai and couldn't finish in time..

Dani, just a context about the political question asked of Jazzy (on the youth): The current political upheaval in Thailand is driven by the youth against the old patriarchy, which holds the power. The "uncles" as the young protesters call them are not elected but are appointed by the military junta. There are 250 uncles in the senate and they are the reason why the young frontrunner for the prime minister position didn't get the necessary congressional vote in order to sit as PM despite overwhelming vote from the voting public during the general elections. IMO, Jazzy's answer was on point.

Thank you for this recap. As always, your makeup is flawless. I was cheering Veena the whole time but I knew Antonia was going to win (I also told my husband). BTW, Veena might become a Bollywood movie star (from her interviews). # 9 is so adorable. She said that she went all out because she didn't think that she would be in the top 5. So she was just going to have fun with it! I love her. # 20 Jazzy, I didn't care for her, until the Swimsuit competition. I was WOWED from the first moment she walked out.

For the first, thank you for very greatful recap. In my opinion Antonia's top3 answer is very sharp deep and quite complete speech because her answer has introduction, main massage and little bit conclusion. We have to concentrate for all of the speech then back to think about it by yourself. So I think the first main massage of the question that's about global issues, Antonia want to speech about "Poverty" (reply with ... to have food on the table and a roof over their heads...) one of a global issue that UN realize and pay attention while giving back and lending hand is the introduction. Finally even the microphone is cut off but she already answer all questions at all.😊

9:50 Yes, in Thailand right now. We have a conflict between government and new generation people. The government was trying to use gap in the Law to those children in a bad way. We Thais get what she said and maybe her answer is the best answer for that round. The "Youth" word made some of foreigners misunderstanding the question but in Thai she answered the question. I think it's important to note that Anntonia has been working with an existing charity "Little Steps Projects" for the local communities of TH for a couple of years now. Jazzy has been in UN Women conferences which promotes gender equality and women empowerment. Then Veena's talk show with her husband has been active for years too which promotes lifestyle and brings awareness about different social issues (the show also won an award before). Any of the top three could be sent and they'd score a placement honestly since they all have good walks and can answer well (though if Veena won she definitely needs to train her english more, she's not bad in speaking english but she isn't comfortable when there's pressure unlike when she's doing talk shows which ended up with the redundant answers T^T)

It’s great that they have actual involvement in such activities. Note, however, that whatever Anne JKN says does NOT necessarily translate into results. For everything that she repeatedly went on and on about “transformational leadership,” “force for good,” blah-blah-blah, fewer than half of her MU 2022 semifinalists (and only three in her Top 5) had ANY advocacy or involvement in any social cause. Talk about hypocrisy. The only good thing was that R’Bonney met expectations (a very deserving winner). But even her selection didn’t come without any controversy, with sourgraping & bitter Miss USA losers attempting unsuccessfully (an EPIC FAIL) to rain on her parade.

On another note, Karma is hitting Anne now for alienating her biggest pageant supporters by not even considering the strong MU 2022 candidates from Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines for the first cut: a very bad business decision when she desperately needed - and needs now more than ever - massive business support. Given all these talks about her company’s inability to pay its debts, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next news item I hear is that the pageant is up for sale again. Sigh. 🙄

MUT Anntonia #31, who won the title crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2023, has received the most prizes from the sponsors of this year Miss Universe Thailand. More than half of this year judges happened to be the sponsors of this year MUT competition. Plus, two of the judges (Miss Universe Thailand from 2021 and Miss Universe Phillipine from 2022) happened to be #31 close friends. Not sure if #31 would have won the title Miss Universe Thailand 2023, if she did not have the title Miss Supranational from many years ago.

hi dani! MUT 14, in fact, joined MGT 2023. she was part of the top 20 and she also did those hair toss multiple times. i think her MUT performance really outfid her performance on MGT and she’s one of my picks for MUT top 5 bc her evening gown perf is superb! Also, the Miss Intercontinental franchise is at the MGT so they pick Thailand’s representatives to be sent in the pageant. This year, MGT picked one of the 5th runners up.

Same thing happened my year at USA. Our runway was 75ft long. We are also practically running because shows are timed down to the second for televised shows. Everyone gets the same amount of time, when the runway is veeeery long contestants still only have seconds to get through their routine, so they end up rushed.

I dont know why Antonnia was hyped so much ! If not Veena then without a doubt I can say that the 1st RU deserved the title. Antonnia's performance on stage especially in that swim suit round was lack lustre , the thing is with all the plastic surgeries she had gone through she somehow managed to pull off that "Dominating Aura" in the stage , she was much better in the time of Miss Supranational imo but lacked that fierce aura that time that's it that's the only difference , other than that she was given the best gowns best hairstyle of all the contestants and even some of the judges were her friends , even when spoke on stage her responses were often repetitive and not on point just that she was calm , composed and confident while answering. The 1st RU was better than her in many aspects , now when eveything is over it feels that the entire show was rigged in her favour to win , honestly there are so many better contestants than Thailand this year she is overrated imo. She can penetrate Top 5 but she needs to work on her presentation, needs to relax, avoid looking like she’s overthinking and too conscious of her performance. She has a way of weaving her answers differently and that’s her edge.

I feel like Thailand now has a chance to win the crown I mean their best shot was in 2017,2019 and 2020 and 2021 they had a good speaker but the styling and preparation didn’t help and 2022 was their biggest mistake yet Thailand really should have known better than to send someone like that last year. I loved Veena it still broke my heart for her three attempts and runner ups sigh but then I did saw the actual show and Veena mentioned her tv show in both her top 5 and top 3 answers like ahhhh I think the last winner to come from another international pageant and won miss universe I think miss universe 2000 Miss India that year

if they performed the best and deserve it , then why not ? y'all focus too much on the race card somehow it seems that race is important and crucial factors in selecting candidates .. if that so , then usa , australia & australia should ban white people from participating because they're not the native people from the counries ... it's discriminating when people like you forget why they won in the first place when in fact , there is actually no rules that says mixed woman cannot compete because most thai queens aren't actually pure thai ... even anna , chalita & anniporn were half german despite their strong asian appeal ... in conclusion , they just simply PERFORMED THE BEST in the eyes of the judges because judges were the official decider on picking an actual winner ...

You failed to observe how great and fair the use of headsets until the end and making it exciting for the other 2 who cannot hear the answers of the later candidate. Basically they cannot assess their placements through their answers and make expect! This is clever for MUT!

This is common. The only place I haven't seen this done, that I can think of off the top of my head, is Grand International. I've never been a fan of not using the headphones.

@@DaniWalker it is common to have the headset but it was not common to put it back after they gave their answers - which MUT did recently. I never seen MUO doing it before, compare this to 2018, Philippines, SA and Venezuela. Both SA and Philippines heard the answer of Venezuela and PHILIPPINES heard SA and Venezuela’s final answers.

I'm down to watch Miss Thailand tear up MU. I want her to win or at least be top 2. But I'm still going to support Miss Philippines because I do like Michelle Dee. Has there ever been a winner of an international competing at another pageant, Dani? Miss Thailand is worthy indeed, but she has a lot of competition from Miss Puerto Rico. I also think that India's and Spain's contestants are unusual enough to garner a lot of attention. I like their androgenous features. Brazil and England might not be as glamorous as your usual contestant but this might be just the ingredient needed for a potential winner. We might also have a woman from a tiny unknown country surprise everyone. Fingers crossed.

Yes, some people shared in the comments that Lara Dutta, Miss Universe 2000, also won Miss Intercontinental. So as you can see it's verrry rare.
