MISSED AND GET TACKLED - WHAT THEN - Bruce Lees Late Jeet Kune Do

To tag our friends from ‪@metrolinamartialarts‬, as a reply to their takedown defence video, (a reaction video to that one will also come) this video is about correct execution of the eye jab mainly, recovering, footwork, following up, also in case of a tackling. Of course strictly self defence! Often its argued, if you miss with the eye jab, you are open to counters. In this video we are showing, how that is not true in Bruce Lee's martial art Jeet Kune do.

Makes so much sense. Bruce was once asked “what if the guy does this or that?” He responds with “ Don’t worry about what if. Worry about when and how far away.” Distance and time dictate what target you go for. Not styles or rules regulations.

Absolutely. JkD is the most misunderstood and wrong trained martial art ever. All because of cash.

Makes sense with the footwork on in and out - my next question is on timing with it. If you are a second behind (Hopefully you would not be), and the grab your leg for the tackle that reverse lunge looks difficult. Could you not sprawl both legs back while taking your fingers into their eyes? Thanks for the video!
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 2 года назад
Yes, you could. But remember, you should have superior footwork and distance control, like a fencer. That should be main focus, to stay on legs, because you will likely deal with more than one opponent in self defence situations.

Really puts things into perspective in terms of how easy it is to stop someone like a bjj guy or anyone that tries to grapple you. People are clueless.
@TheRogueSquid
@TheRogueSquid 2 года назад
Proper tackles and takedowns aren’t slow like this and tend to not be shot from so far away unfortunately. A clueless person might do this, but any rugby player let alone wrestler or bjj guy won’t do it like this. You will be caught with explosive force and be airborne very quickly. Don’t take my word for it. Go to a grappling gym or rugby training and ask to pressure test.

@@TheRogueSquid why would I put myself on a position for anyone to tackle me even if sparring? No thanks. This is demonstration. So it’s obviously not full force. I do underhand what you mean though. Anything for real is scary as fuck, luckily for me it’s very unlikely I’m ever going to be in a position where I’m getting tackled in the street.
@TheRogueSquid
@TheRogueSquid 2 года назад
@VINCENTNATTI true. But in a right players case even if it’s further out it’s coming fast and not face down head first like this. It’s driving in deep and hard. My post was a reply to the OP not the techniques presented who claimed BJJ guys can be beaten easily like this, and then claimed every else was clueless.
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 2 года назад
This is not far a way, this was within a reach of a strike like finger jab. From what distance are they tackling. Nose to nose?
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 2 года назад
@@TheRogueSquid did you even watch the whole video and listened... Foot work is WAY faster than any shoot down.try to catch a fencer with that. You cant. The reason BJJ catch other BJJ people with that, or in MMA, is because they suck in footwork. If you stand around within a touching distance, squared up, of course its hard to get away, well guess what, at that distance, you wont get away from eye jab either, you won't even see it coming, just feeling. Footwork and distance control is very basic skill in Bruce Lee's martial art. A sidekick is far faster and goes deeper than any shoot down, and yet with footwork you can avoid it. But if you have no footwork, that's on you.

Thomas I meant to ask you. I see Paul vanuk emphasises all these head butts. Almost all the time. Did Bruce really emphasis head butting that much? Because it’s doesn’t really seem the the most self persevering of techniques lol. Seems like you’ll end up hurting yourself just as much doing that

I'd be happy if the guy tries to grab or tackle. Gives me more time to finish him with a proper blow, and he wasted seconds that he could have used to knock me out. Remember, if you grab him, you also grab yourself. Could have used that action to finish the whole scene with a finger jab or punch or kick instead.

If this is a self defense situation, why are you facing off in a fighting position? Now you are engaging in a “fight”, not self defense. You are as liable to be held at fault as the other guy. Most importantly, you’ve lost the element of surprise.

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO IF there are multiple attackers, they’re not going to wait for you. They will attack simultaneously. You won’t have time to “get in stance. Getting into a fighting stance will encourage his buddies to jump in, if they haven’t yet. I teach students to always use a non-aggressive posture.
