Fun fact, this may sound stereotypically gopnik, but the real life Soviets actually DID make a Soviet counterpart to the Saturn V called the "N1." The key difference between the two was that while the Saturn carried its initial weight at take-off to mach 1 by wielding five colossal F1 engines, the N1 attempted to resolve the problem of lift to mass at take-off by strapping an unholy total of *_thirty engines_* to the first stage _alone._ That's *_six times_* the engine count of the Saturn V, *_ten times_* the number of engines on the main orbiter of the Space Shuttle, and *_ten more_* engines than the R7, the main rocket of the Soviet space program, that ALREADY had so many engines that it needed to be grouped into *_five boosters._* Truly the most blyat design ever made. I want to see it fly once again.

Kaga Kai, another fun fact which may or may not be true. The soviet way of testing the N1 was to launch, watch it blow up, fix the problem, rinse and repeat. I think you can find videos of the test launches on RU-vid

Part of that has to do with engineering challenges surrounding large bell nozzles and the combustion instability that can occur in them. Lots of Saturn protos blew up on the test stand before a solution was found.

Sadly the n1 failed all four launches but not just because of engineering engineering problems. The whole management system was messy and the funding was decreased, along with several other problems like engineers forced to launch early. It wouldve been cool to see it launch sucessfully

Boris, you can actually achieve orbit by going up at a slight angle. Once you are at space, turn until you are almost level with the red and blue border (bottom circle). Burn with as little fuel as possible. SOVIET SPACE STATION
